    Ely, last week where the morning lows were 50. ahhhh relief.

    This is the Northern Nevada Railway museum where they have one of 3 remaining working Steam engine trains. It was freakin awesome, and a great get away about 4 hours north of Las Vegas.

    DO NOT STAY HERE! Visit is but do yourself a favor and stay at the Prospector Hotel. That place is recently remodeled and absolutely fabulous for a small town hotel.

    rt 318 was pretty damn lonely in itself, which is the route we took. When you see a sign as you are leaving Ely that says Next Gas 107 miles, it's pretty desolate.

    Yep, 50 is the E-W route. I'll be cutting across from Winnemucca to Boise here in a few weeks and I will be in BFE boonies for a good measure of that route. Love it.

    I love the Prospector Hotel. I've been "borrowing" their wifi for ages before cellphones allowed me to check into the board without the laptop. :haha: The people there are so nice and I love their wing of pet friendly rooms and how the whole area is decorated with dog pictures. Ruby wasn't thrilled with helping me play VP in the casino though. She would rather be on the comfy dog bed provided in the room.

    @NickyDim ~ This morning's CBS news ran a special on the Ely train. In 2003 I drove the Loneliest Highway, stayed at the Hotel Nevada, and took in the vicinity, including the railroad.

    That's cool, Richard. I miss seeing the launches from Vandenberg. The one time we were in St. Augustine we saw a shuttle launch from the Cape.
