Heading to vegas mid September and am staying at the venetian. I'm a fairly regular vegas visitor but normally go with the guys and stick to Ceasars properties. Venetian sent me a teaser comp for 3 days so am taking my wife and staying there. Any suggestions on places to go, restaurants not to miss etc? The comp is a bit unusual as I played about 20 minutes of craps there about 8 months ago but I'll take it. Only thing we have planned is dinner at Cut one night.

    Thanks

Cut is amazing -- good call on that! It's one of my favorite properties on the strip, just wish it had better nightlife. Also, the center bar (with Video Poker) has some great bartenders...miss those guys. They make really good drinks, especially if you tip well.

Grand Lux for any casual breakfast, lunch, or late night snack before bed. Reasonably priced and a mammoth selection of different foods.

Delmonico's is another steak house worth mentioning. They also have a huge whisky collection if that's your thing.

Be sure to walk over to the Palazzo to check out the sister property casino.

If you go up the escalators there is lots of shopping and food that many people never check out.

    Gondola rides.

One of the towers has views of the mirage if you want to watch their volcano before going to bed.

That's the one aspect of Venetian that I say is absolutely to be skipped! Way over-priced. And nothing special. Everything you can see from the gondola, you can see from just walking alongside it. If you want to hear one of the gondoliers sing, just follow along and you can hear it. Did it once many years ago and never again. Huge waste of time and money

Sushi Samba is great, and has a decent happy hour.

Grimaldis is very good anytime, and a few of us had a great tapas style lunch at Sugarcane.

I avoid the Venetian for reasons that I can't discuss here, but the Dorsey looks really fucking cool. You might check it out if you're looking for an upscale lounge.

Happy Hours. Mott 32 is a great one if you like Dim Sum. My friends and I all enjoy Buddy V’s, though I know there are some haters here. There are plenty more of them on property, but those are my 2 favorites.

Boouchon brunch is very good, Delmonico is great for steak dinner and Yardbird is wonderful for some Southern eats.

Mott32's char siu pork is the best I've ever had made with Iberico pork. Yardbird is great. I'd skip on Sugarcane, the food was mediocre at best. Bouchon was fabulous for brunch, not been there for lunch or dinner service, but Thomas Keller is an institution in himself. I've seen that the new steak restaurant Smith & Wollenski is supposed to be a great addition. but here is a website that talks about what are the hottest restaurants, it lists a bunch of places including Once:

You can also check out what is offered at Wynncore too. I had some drinks at Sinatra and the Barmen and patrons were really nice to chat with... great conversations.

Ultimately, if a place interests you, check it out. The only experience that matters is your own. I see places on this thread that I'd not recommend, just as some have not recommended what I suggested. Who is correct?

Don't get me wrong, I write about options in fun/play/travel for a living, and sometimes I can't avoid the often silly, "What's best?" question. I try to establish a context for my recommendations rather than, "Well, just because," and I only try to make hierarchical judgments when I've sampled enough (all) of the field to have some basis for a comparison. When someone has had one steak in Vegas, it by default will be the best they've ever had, but what are the odds that it is the best in Vegas? And what's even "best" when it comes to steak (or anything)?

+1 for Grimaldi's, really good pizza and good service.

I like the coffee at the Illy cafe, good to grab takeouts from there to take to the pool... Especially when the Starbucks concessions have queues halfway down the casino :D

Black Tap is pricey but good.

Here I was trying to be all smart and say, "you sound like you're from the UK" and then saw that your location says "UK"...
