I’m an Army veteran and never ask for a discount. If given I’ll take it but I don’t feel entitled. I’m very proud of my service but I volunteered and did my job as expected of me.

If my occupancy is there, I would do it.

Because they are selling the places out without doing so and comping the people they want to comp? This proposal doesn't really make sense if your goal is to run the casinos to make money.

I think you’re both right... if they’re going to give a discount to servicemen and women it should be meaningful (25% or so) but they’re under no obligation to do so... 5% (even 10%) is more insulting than nothing. Issue a press release stating that while they still support, admire and value the members and veterans of our armed services, there has been an insufficient utilization of the current discount to warrant continuing the program.

OK I totally understand "what the market will bear" on most items, including when they releveled tier discounts.

Didn't like it, but got it.

But don't chisel the military discount. Not impressed.

their expectation (probably accurate) is that you say this, but 3 months from now you won't even think about it.

I agree. In very short order nobody will remember or be upset. Let me change that to MOST PEOPLE will remember or be upset.

Meanwhile, they have more revenue. After all, it costs them the same money for a vet, senior or regular joe staying at their property.

I would be curious to wonder how much revenue if any. Say you are military, you come to Vegas often, there is a chance you are comped already. Say you are new to Vegas or a very low roller, a flight hotel package off a site could be cheaper than a flight and 10% discount via MGM.

    Very true.

And I would guess rooms via many third party companies do not even count or process those sort of discounts either.

I would still go to Vegas if there was no discount for military/veterans, so I'll gladly take whatever they want to give... 10%, 5%, 1%, whatever. 5% off a week-long hotel stay is enough to cover several meals.

The difference in % between MGM and CZR is not enough to make me pick one over the other; if I want to stay at a CZR property, I will. If I want to stay at an MGM property, I will. The discount doesn't even enter into my decision making.

They have a teacher discount?? I didn't know that. If I was paying for a room, I'd look into it, that is for sure.

If a property doesn't offer a military discount, so be it. You don't usually hear "Property X has never offered a military discount and that's so petty of them and I hate them because of it and I will never go there!" Places don't generally get bad P.R. for never having offered a military discount.

If a property chooses to offer a military discount, that's very nice and will often get them some positive P.R. and maybe some additional business. If they never offered it, they probably wouldn't get any negative P.R. But since they offer it, they get a little good P.R.

Now, if a property chooses to offer a military discount, and has offered it for years, then decides to cut back the discount, it makes them look greedy, cold, soulless towards the military and veterans, and generates the worst possible P.R. possible through no fault but their own.

Of course, MGM is THE MASTER of greedy, cold, soulless decisions that generate the worst possible P.R. possible through no fault but their own. I'm surprised they didn't just eliminate the discount completely.

That is exactly what brought it to my attention.
If they went from 0% to 5% they would not look bad.

    Might be wrong forum.

Can anyone give me an intelligent and informed reason why MGM Resorts decided to reduce the Veteran's Discount from 10% to 5%.

At 5%, I'm ready to tell them to shove their discount up their collective asses.

On another note, does CET offer anything similar? I feel my loyalty to MGM seriously waning.

    From that page:

Salute cardholders are eligible for military hotel discounts when they book online (10% all year) plus they will automatically be upgraded to Caesars Rewards Platinum status, which offers even more deals including:

Yes - you sign up for identity verification through ID.me web site. For me, they verified my employment by sending and having me respond to an email at my government address. So I log in through that and it gives me an extra 10% off when paying for a room, and that 10% stacks on offer and deal codes.
