OK, with Vegas around the corner, we threw on Vegas Vacation to whet the appetite.

Despite being over 20 years old, and Vegas having shed her skin like a snake, many times, the movie still hits a lot of truisms.

What, for you in Vegas Vacation makes you grin, as you still feel that way/see Vegas that way today?

For us? It's when Chevy Chase is at the breakfast table, trying to sell his family on Vegas, going on about the shows and culture and family events, knowing darned well that's not why he's going.

What, for you in Vegas Vacation, still rings true?

    • [Marty points to the Table Limit Sign $10 minimum]
Marty : Come on, Griswold, You think that sign is there to hold the table down?
Clark Griswold : What can I do with five dollars?
Marty : Gee, I don't know. Buy a bullet and rent a gun?

    • Marty : You don't know when to quit, do ya Griswold? Here's an idea: Why don't you give me half the money you were gonna bet? Then, we'll go out back, I'll kick you in the nuts, and we'll call it a day!
This rings true for me as I always run into a table that I have this kind of bad luck. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, but I always feel like Griswold when I hit that table where nothing goes right.

So many things. I love Vegas Vacation as well as The Hangover for some good laughs.

This one pretty much rings true from my first few visits...I mean what the hell? :haha:

InbornIgnorantEarwig-size_restricted.gif Reminds me of the time Wayne Newton made out with my wife during a show. People in the seats around us were calling me "Sparky" or "Clark Griswold" afterwards.

The thrill of landing in LV at night and seeing the Strip for the first time that trip.

Impulse bets walking past a table (Chevy did roulette, I do it on craps).

Staring out the window of my hotel if I have a view.

Inside the Mirage. Doesn't exactly look like that now, but that is a Mirage I remember and therefore it counts.

The clueless sidekick. Don't worry, Glenn doesn't patronize this board.

Cramming way too much into one day.

"Hard 6, coming out" when my wife is with me :) I actually said that once, and she didn't get it.

"I'll have some of the yella, and don't get cheap on me" because it is SUCH a good line.

Mr. Papagiorgio as a stand in for most LA Trust Fund babies.

Wanting to screw a MILFy Beverly D'Angelo in a airplane bathroom (though I would also accept the 28-year old, pot-smoking debutante Beverly D'Angelo in Hair.)

Wanting to screw Marisol Nichols at basically any part of the movie... or now, come to think of it.

Man, I could go on and on. Vegas Lent began today... time to pull out the DVD and watch it!

It’s the look on Clark’s face....as they are driving down the strip, and when the atm is spitting out hundreds. That is me upon arrival. I also seem to lose that badly most of the time too.

" Clark, how did you do at the tables ?"
    " Oh......I'm just about even."
    .
Jerry Weintraub at the Craps Table -
    Too perfect !
We've all seen these guys - but not enough, for me.
    .
And I swear to this day ---
The Pit Boss who sweats Rusty ( Mr. Papagiorgio ) at the Crap Table ?
I swear, that Boss worked at Binion's Pit - one trip I was there.
Weintraub probably threw him in the movie.

Sadly, I don’t think I have seen “the purple” or “the yeller” as buffet options since the Lady Luck closed.
The excitement and the possibility of something good coming just around the corner remain.
First day losing disasters also seem to be a tradition.

A few years ago I was on a solo trip and the wife called to see how I was doing (in general, not just gambling). I had just taken my worst beating in over 20 trips; how else could I reply, "Oh, I'm just about even."

Still watch this movie on the plane ride out almost every trip. It never gets old!!!!

When everyone at the table is dealt a blackjack or a 20 except for the one that gets dealt a 13 or 14, I call that the Clark Griswold hand. Sometimes it is me, and sometimes it is someone else. Always good for a laugh!!!

Driving down the strip with "Born to Be Alive" by Patrick Hernandez is pretty awesome as well!!!

Just like the Griswold's show, that initial magical feeling upon arrival and starting to walk around and look around in Las Vegas, the lights & places and names may change but that feeling never does.

Yeah, you hit it right there! He has that iconic goofy face that he makes. I try to imitate it every time I go to Vegas.

Haha excellent movie. It came out around the same time I went out there on a family vacation back when I was 13, so whenever I watch it it takes me back to that first trip on how things looked then and how my dad acted. Every ride from the airport to wherever I am staying, "Born to Be Alive" plays in my head. Also, I say in my head "put in a dollar, win a car." every time I pass by a bank of slot machines with a car on top of them.

I always play the Vegas Vacation winning Keno numbers.
    7-10-14-22-30-33-41-52-54-80
from the Keno card played in Aug 1996.

Apparently they needed another shot of the Keno card falling to the ground and did another shoot in Nov. They didn't get the numbers quite the same so I call those the false numbers.

Haha I've also been know to look at one of my buddies and say "Clark, it's all you can eat... We only need one plate." with a wink at a buffet.
