Herbs and Rye

I’ve been in charge of finding a good dinner spot for a group of 15-20 people (in town for a sports tournament, so it’s the entire range of Vegas vets to virgins) for our trip next month. I’m leaning towards Herbs and Rye during their happy hour because it should be able to accommodate a large group with various preferences and price points.

As a comparison, we did Triple George last year and it was a near perfect mix of being somewhat upscale without blowing the budget of some people in the group.

Will this place be a good call? If not, any other suggestions. Location is not terribly important as we’re in a party pad AirBnB that southern slightly off-strip.

 

Great food there....I usually sit at the bar, and have never had a bad meal, and some entertaining bartenders

 

Here is my Vegas Bright review of Herbs and Rye from a couple of years ago.

Our group (usually between 5 and 7) won't go back. It is more cocktail room than steakhouse, and its too dark and loud for a group dinner at that price. For a group of your size, you might find it tough to be together. The bar is long and narrow, an most of the booths can sit 4 or 5. They had to bring two chairs for our group and they seemed to be in they walkway.

It's a tough mix. Too loud and "cocktail-ey" for a romantic dinner, to dark to be a place to hang around too long, and the food too expensive to be like a bar-and-grill.

The food was great - no doubt - but not the type of atmosphere that any from our group wishes to go back to.

Thanks for this review. I've been thinking about visiting a couple of off-strip drinking establishments and this was on the list (and will probably stay on the list based on your review). I hope the OP found this to be useful... not every joint will be a good fit for every situation. A couple of guys hitting some hidden gems for some good cocktails? H&R looks like it may be worth a shot. A group of 20? Maybe not so much.

My biggest concern was the size of the group. The food seems to be consistently well rated, so the mewl itself isn’t putting me off.

I’m going to keep this place on the list, but explore elsewhere and see if there is a better fit for the group. Even I don’t get there on that night, I’ll keep it in mind for when I’m in town with far fewer people.

 

This photo from their Facebook page is very representative of the space. Like I said, now picture two chairs brought up to our booth.

 

In addition to the bar area pictured above, is there also a larger, more traditional, dining room (to the left when you come in.)?
I’ve only been to Herbs and Rye once, and it was late at night, so there was no one in the room at that time
If you want to go there, before giving up on them I’d call them ask about seating options for a large group.

 

Not sure of your budget but Jean George at Aria has a private room in the back that can accommodate 15-20 people.
I’m sure you could work with them on a limited menu to keep pricing under control.

 

Check out Blondies and the PBR Bar. Random suggestion, what about top golf? Really fun experience even if some people won't even touch a golf club and it's fairly affordable.

 

Cratsteak and the new Ambra at the MGM also have private rooms in the back for larger parties

 

Sounds to me the OP does NOT care about a private room and wants a menu that has affordable options and some higher end options including steak. I don't think many restaurants will turn them away based on their group size with enough advance, yet many places might force you to order from a limited fixed menu. Two other place that comes to mind is the prime rib loft and Ruth's Chris during happy hour (have to sit in the bar lounge area) but I have no idea how either place will handle groups.

 

Most Las Vegas restaurant websites mention contacting them concerning large groups.

you might wanna call ahead so they’re ready to accommodate your group.

 

The Grand Casino across the street just gave Hogs a 30 day eviction notice... so you might really really really want to call ahead lol.

Was just on the news over something thats been brewing for years, i guess The Grand has had enough. Wasnt really paying attention so dont know the full story but its been on the local news multiple times the past few days.
