CET Executive Hosts Don't Necessarily Have To Take Your RC's Before Backend Comps

I meant to post about this earlier, but I forgot.

I was staying at Bally's the second week in June. Went over to play at Cromwell one afternoon. An Executive Host approached me.

He introduced himself, asked me if I was happy at Bally's, was everything good, did I need anything, yadda yadda. I told him everything was fine, the only thing I requested this trip was connecting rooms, as I was here with my dad and we each booked a room under individual offers, and they had the connecting rooms all set up when we checked-in. He says it's nice I'm here with my dad, and I should take him out for a really nice meal. He mentions Old Homestead, Gordon Ramsay Steak, and a few other CET high-end joints, and says take him anywhere you want, charge it to the room, and he'll comp it off. I, of course, thank him very much. He hands me his card and tells me I really should be staying in a real suite(I booked a studio suite online), enjoying some nice meals, etc. Please contact me before your next trip and let me set you up right and if you need anything while you're here don't hesitate to call. Great, thanks, really appreciate it, blah blah blah.

Well, I was pretty sure neither my dad nor I felt like doing a two hour, high-end meal that involved making reservations and being on even that minor of a schedule. And I was right. He played in a couple poker tourneys, I was bopping around casinos, not a care in the world, mostly because this was the first trip either of us did without my gf and daughter in years. In fact, we never even ate at CET property and had nothing charged to our rooms.

I also knew I had about $600 in Reward Credits banked. And he would have had to take those for that nice dinner.

Get back home to Phoenix and figure I'll touch base with this host by email, thank him for introducing himself to me and for his dinner offer, explain we just never ate "fancy" this trip but his offer was very much appreciated. I also wanted to give him my gf's Caesars Reward Diamond number and tell him her and I usually travel together, only need one room, and both of us travelling together could be considered when I contact him in the future(she gets very good Vegas offers too and puts her play in).

I also mention that I have about $600 in RC's, and if my dad and I charged anything to my room, a host has to take your RC's before extending further backend comps, correct?

This is copied and pasted from his email response:

"I would have comped the dinner on my personal comp code so it wouldn’t take from your points, but yes you are correct we do need to use your points first but we can make exceptions. I wouldn’t offer you a dinner then charge you for it haha!"

    He added:

"Next time you want to come out give me a heads up so I can book your suite and I will hook you and the girlfriend up with a nice dinner without using your points."

    Interesting.

About a week later, I get a phone call and an email from my new Executive Host at Harrah's Laughlin. So I pretty much pose the same RC's vs. Backend Comps question to her.

Again, copied and pasted from email:

"Perhaps, if the play warrants it. I may comp the balance and not touch rewards credits. OR I may split the charges 50/50 with you half RC’s half comp."

Both these hosts now show up on my Caesars Rewards app as my hosts.

So it appears if your play warrants it, backend comps are in-play even if you have the RC's to cover your charges. I'm sure there are some here who have the play to warrant it. Or at least discuss it with your host.

This whole thing with sweeping out RCs is completely ridiculous.

I earned $X in comps. Comp me $X. Don't tell me you have to comp me $2X, with half of it coming from me, or that you can't comp me a penny until you take all my RCs.

The savvy play is to always try to “point of use” charge any retail purchases using-up points. Not sure what Nevada rules are for CET. Room, room service, beverage and non-celebrate chef restaurants are easy comps for even the most junior host to wipe clean when you have zero RC’s upon checkout.

FWIW, Borgata MLife retail store in AC has a decent clothing section. I think I have several coats I and a very nice silk resort shirt I got there. It’s $2 comp dollars to get $1 retail, but better then letting comp dollars go to waste or be used when host can back-end comp when comp balance is zero. If you give decent play/gaming hours, most regulars to a casino should be able to get RFB value out of the system if you know how to play it.

Getting a free dinner from a competing CET or MLife property host is a new angle I had never considered, but look forward to trying.

In addition to the thread really being about how CET works, not MLife, since you brought it up I want to add that Borgata "MLife" is completely separate from the rest of the MLife organization and they way they work is frustrating. The last time I was there over Thanksgiving, I had to go to the Players Desk to have Express Comps "transferred from Vegas" to use them at The Amphora Lounge (I have about $700 in Express Comps). Express Comps you earn at Borgata are treated as completely separate from the rest of the organization by them. You can't even use your Mlife card from Vegas at Borgata - it won't work. You have to go to the Players Desk to get one generated there. They have supposedly been a part of MLife for two years now, so it's time they got their act together and fully integrated into the company like every other MLife property I've ever been to.

At first I was totally on the why is this a big deal train since if the host said you didn't earn enough in comps, you would use RCs anyway, or if you knew you earned enough in comps you could just burn up RCs on gift shop items and such.
While I think I am starting to get behind the, they shouldn't take your reward credits before they comp train, I am just curious as to what I would do with the Reward Credits. I feel like if I didn't let my host wipe them at the end of a trip (usually 40-50 dollars) I would never know where to use them, or would just use them on a meal that would get comped anyway.

I also feel like since I'm kind of a borderline player (I get all nights of all rooms comped, but no food or beverage upfront then my play on the trip typically covers the food and beverage ordered) by allowing my host some RCs to take and burn up it makes a potential overcomp (400 in food) more palatable to them. Maybe that's just been my experience, but it really seems to work quite well.

@AllenAndRossi our host has comped quite a few things off our room charges without using comp $$ including tickets to a couple of shows (The Who and Celine) and a very nice birthday dinner for my wife and more. We carry quite a few RC's ( right now over $1700.) but you are dead on they do have leeway if your play warrants it. As they say charge everything back to your room.

Very informative post OP. I definitely agree that CET should take your backend comps first before touching RC's. I didn't know executive hosts could make exceptions, but then again, I am not high enough to attract the attention on an exec host anyway. Then again, I always manage to burn up my rc's before the end of the trip anyway, so I guess it doesn't make a difference for me.

I am curious what level TR you have. I am headed to LV again later this year and have a host so I might see about them comping a dinner or two but if you are a 7* player it might not worth me even asking.

Keep in mind, it isn't TR level that matters to an exec host, its theo (more specifically, his Vegas Theo or MDT).

That's why I prefer other properties to CET. Even at Wynn, arguably worlds above anything CET has, I earn FreeCredits much faster than CET AND get comped above and beyond that. In other words, the FreeCredits are gravy to existing comps (so basically you get double-comped). That said, CET is the only property that provides RCs and TCs for table games. mLife doesn't so it works out for table players. VP/Slots players are appreciated more elsewhere. By the way, I gamble more (ADT) with CET and get A LOT less from them.

I asked my host a couple of months back and she confirmed that RCs go first. Weird. I guess it depends on the host. I usually do cover my up front comps during the trips as well.

This is good info, thanks. I am curious to see what happens with my trip in November as I have been clear with my host that my goal is to hit Diamond while I am there. My offers changed significantly from October to November, likely because did something stupid with my card, but I will find out more when I talk to her early next month.

My experience is similar to @Sfgiants13 . On many occasions my wife and I have been told CET needs to drain our RCs first prior to any discretionary comps. Maybe we aren't the kind of High Roller that @AllenAndRossi is, so that may be an explanation -- even though we are both Seven Stars. At any rate, our strategy is to keep a minimal balance of RCs from trip to trip which makes using discretionary comps at time of checkout an attractive option.

It might not be about the host so much as the level of the host. I suspect executive hosts or hosts who routinely manage guests with a certain ADT will have the ability to comp without using RC's i.e using their own personal comp code like the OP's host indicated.

I have always been told that they need to clear my RC's first.

I prefer to use my RCs at point of sale and not get charged tax, which saves me some credits.

Yeah, this is exactly what I do as well. But if I can't cover it with RC's, I add it to my room and ask for backend comps at the end

No, they've been charging for lounge access for more than a year now.

CET Hosts have discretionary comps each month that they can dole out as they deem fit. My buddy MB has had his host comp off pool tabs and meals more than once this year and not touch his RC's. He also stopped by the vp bar last trip to chat with us for quite awhile and was going to buy a round of Fireball Shots on his "tab" but because we were all Diamond, the bartender told him he did not need to use his own comps as he could get them to us for free. So if you have a host saying you have to use the RC's first, you have an inferior or a greedy host or your play doesn't warrant it.

If you have two people only put the room in one persons name. You can add the second person to the room but don’t add their Caesars rewards number as a companion. The person not on the room can keep all their reward credits. Your host can use the 2nd persons play to take care of charges but won’t touch their rewards credits.
