We will go to the far end of the parking lot to find what little shade there is to park in.

Except during the monsoon season, then it’s a dry humidity.

112°F today. Bet you can cook dinner on your dashboard while you're in the casino.

Not Vegas, but our America the Beautiful park pass ended up like a Shrinky Dink after sitting on the dash up at Kings Canyon last week.

Yesterday one of those grasshoppers that has invaded the valley decided to park himself on the dashboard of my car. He was a krispy knitter in no time.

I left my phone in the car while I was in the casino all day last week. It said it was "overheated" when I got in the car about 5 hours later.

The OP's picture reminds me of 2 things. Once while turning south on Arville off Flamingo, I saw a businessman trying to stand in the thin shade of a light pole as he waited for the bus.

Also, downtown, I see people walking single file using the shade of the store canopys. It does make a difference heatwise.

99 here today and the roof of my car is 148 degrees on the outside. The tinted rear window shows 156 degrees on my digital temp gun.

I'm pretty sure we're not moving to a hot-summer locale when we retire. It's hot where we live now -- Tucson hot, not La Quinta hot -- and we're only seven years removed from living in a similar climate, but those years at the coast kinda did us in thinking heat is fun. We just have to alter our outdoor fun plans too much to deal with real heat when we reach our play years.

With that dry heat the shade is even more valuable real estate than in humid weather like Houston.

I always thought the "it's a dry heat" thing was a bit of a cliche, but damn if I don't prefer 110 and dry to 95, humid, and waiting down in the station for a subway to come.
