It would depend on how good the games are. I work in the Loop, live in Lakeview. I’d be there often if they offered good games. Rivers is just too far and the blue line drives me crazy.

My hunch is it would be more of a captive-audience ripoff casino than Rivers is!

I think a "downtown" casino would attract more customers than a casino on the far south side. Tourist are simple not going to drive through the south side to get to a casino. Chicago would never be a gambling destination. Downtown or the Michael Reese location (which is close to McCormick Place) would draw the most tourist. But, I wonder how long the glitter of a casino in Chicago would last? Something tells the games would be so tight, interest would die off very quickly.

Agreed. and to capture the most audience, the casino would need to be where it would capture the most people. That would be somewhere downtown or the Michael Reese site. I am neutral on a Chicago casino. I would have no plans to ever visit it and I do not think it will solve much of Chicago's financial problems. This is just another way for the fat cat crooks in Chicago to get their hands on more money.. Yes, it will create jobs and give Chicago more tax revenue but it will not be a panacea.

Then putting a casino in Waukegan and then one in Beloit. They may oversaturate the market for crappy Illinois casinos

I'm for a big land based Chicago casino, since I'm sure Indiana is benefitting from all the Chicago folks like me who cross the border to visit the Horseshoe , Blue Chip, etc. Although with both Chicago and Illinois's history of corrupt politicians, I'm skeptical that the revenue will be used as planned. LOL

I also thought they already said early on that downtown is not being considered due too the congestion and whatnot, but locations on the outskirts are viable like the area near McCormick Place. Since the casino is suppose to be in Chicago, I would also think that any of the nearby suburbs would be off limits.

I think the only things that would keep me away from a new Chicago casino is if parking wasn't available or if the parking rates are sky high. Safety is another issue, since if it's located near any bad neighborhoods, it could deter folks from visiting.

If they design it in a way to draw tourists, I am for it. We get a lot of international tourists so it needs to be planned in a way that makes it Vegas like and easy access. I'm not really thrilled about all the other casinos and expansions approved, though, especially since I didn't notice anything that helps the existing casinos.

They will never be able to make it "Vegas like". None of the casinos in the Chicago area have anything like a Vegas feel. Basically all they offer is gambling, without the "Vegas" feel". But, if they could design the new casino, close to a Vegas feel that would be great. Vegas is Vegas and there is nothing like Vegas.

It would pull from the Indiana casinos like the Horseshoe which would be good for Illinois and city taxes but I only see a great ROI if a name brand goes in like Caesars or a high end Wynn type property that can support a hotel and get high end restaurants. No more 3rd rate ones like Grand Victoria or Hollywood. It needs to be better then Rivers by a lot

The area near McCormick Place is probably the best location for both tourists and locals. Downtown draws in lots of tourists and needless to say, McCormick Place caters to a number of big conventions. We really need something like Encore-Boston Harbor or Caesar-Las Vegas, since anything of lesser quality will probably not succeed in the long run.

Midway is already to be allowed to get slot machines at the airport.

From NBC Chicago... Lightfoot Announces 5 Potential Locations for New Chicago Casino

"The sites to be considered include: Harborside (111th Street and the Bishop Ford Freeway), the former Michael Reese hospital (31st Street and Cottage Grove); Pershing and State; Roosevelt and Kostner; and the former U.S. Steel parcel (80th Street and Lake Shore Drive), Lightfoot's office said in a statement."

Pretty sure North side aldermen don't want it.
Plus, land is cheaper on the south side and it brings jobs to the community. I assume they're ignoring the ill effects of casinos (crime) but that's a bit moot by now.
