    My Trip Report

I’ve been planning this trip with my son in law for a long time. Spent hours on this board reading what others do and don’t do. Too often I see posts about what people used to do when they were younger, but they are too old for it now. I refuse to buy into that.

Well, I never went to vegas when I was younger and did not have the money to do it right back then either. So at 65 I have the time and the resources and the inclination to do Vegas the way I always wanted.

    So here is the plan:
    • Business class out of Philly wednesday morning.
    • Seven nights at Flamingo. I know - not high end. But I love the location and the pool
    • Tables and bottle service at Jewel Saturday and Voodoo Thursday
    • Cabanas at Flamingo Friday and MGM Monday
    • Dinners at Costa di Mare, Voodoo Steakhouse and Center Cut. Breakfast at Mon Ami Gabi. Others TBD
    • Royal shave at Bellagio and a spa day at Flamingo
    • Plus I figure that leaves over 40 hours or more for gambling. Mostly craps, a little slots, some other stuff here and there
All this accompanied by my son in law.

I’ll be posting updates as I have time. If I have time.

Sounds like an amazing trip planned! I hope you have a blast. I love that you’re doing a Cabana at MGM it’s one of my favorite places to do a Cabana.

My only suggestion would be to scratch the Flamingo Spa day and go somewhere special. Vegas has some next level spas with unique treatments and amazing amenities. I would personally suggest Aria, WynnCore, Cosmo, or Qua at Caesar’s. Price increases aren’t that dramatic, but the enhanced experience would be significant.

Good luck and have a great time. Age does not mean a thing.

My first trip was shortly after my youngest turned 21 so I was 44-45. Like you the resources were allocacated for other things as was vacation time.

Flamingo location can't be beat. Their pool is one of the best in town! I look forward to your trip report. I'd like to hear about the royal shave!

PS. 65 is young. I'm only 10 years behind you!

I have actually been to Vegas about 10 times- maybe more. But the first 9 were either with a bunch of golf buddies who did not gamble ( and could care less whether we were in Vegas or anywhere else) or my family who also did not gamble. Two years ago was my first trip where I could do what I wanted 24/7. Also with my son in law. That was a real good trip. But this time I want to turn it up a notch.

Your trip sounds awesome. I actually LOVE the flamingo. Love the location and the vibe in the casino. When you are in the Flamingo, you know you are in VEGAS.

    Have a great one!

Flamingo has an excellent location in the middle of it all and all the neon and pink gives it that old school feel. Good luck and enjoy!

I’m 64, in February I walked over 8 miles a day with many flights of stairs, did plenty of gambling, drinking, and great meals .Vegas makes you young. Other than not staying up til the crack of dawn, nothing has changed. I can still party with the best of them.
    Go for it!

This trip sounds great, and I love how you roll with your age!

    I'm 20 years younger than you and feel like I'm 100 most days. I'm a wimp. :p

Hope you and the SIL have a fabulous trip!

    Cheers!

    I just turned 65 myself.
The reality is at this age, we are
    Rounding third and heading
For home, so I say go for it!
    Do it your way!

You really can’t take it with you!

Well I am onboard at PHL. Noticed two omens this.morning:. When I got in my car at home to start the drive to the airport, the first song I heard on the radio was Sinatra's "Luck be a Lady". Then I got a message that my flight was slightly delayed (10 minutes) and the new arrival time was 11:11. Fellow craps players will know what that means.

Off to a great & lucky start!

I am also a huge fan of the Flamingo. We "had" to stay there a while back because of needing a pet stay room and not having a ton of money budgeted for a hotel. Neither of us were super excited about it because even though I've always loved the vibe of the casino, I thought the hotel may be second rate. Man, was a I wrong. We had a great room and a great time there.

    Good Luck!

Have a great trip. I'm 60 and run all around Vegas on my 2-week solo trips. I've slowed down a bit in some respects but due to regular gym visits I'm in better shape than when I was in my 40s and 50s. There are a lot of us that refuse to let ourselves get 'old'. Go to the clubs. Drink all night. Do what makes you happy. "This isn't the dress rehearsal. This is the show."

Well I guess I owe an update.

Was up at 4:30 eastern time. Showered finished packing and in my car by 6. First song I hear in the radio is Sinatra's "Luck be a Lady". A good omen?

Not so much. Had a decent flight in, arrived about 30 minutes late. Room was ready when we checked in at 12:30. Unpacked then off to gamble.

Had a nice crew at the Flamingo craps table, including a nice dealer originally from Philly. But the dice were not friendly. Played let it ride and broke even. Played some slits - nothin.

A late lunch at the Asian place in the food court. Not bad for fast food. Then we headed up to Harrahsand caught one of Big Elvis's sets. Great as always. More bad craps until we finally found our way to O Sheas. Finally had a decent run. By this time it was 6 pm so we headed back to the Flamingo. Stopped by the Diamind Lounge (if the Lounges in AC are 10s this one was a 4).

More losing craps. At Flamingo and the headed to Cromwell. Loved the place to play craps. $10 tables and 100 times odds. And even had a $600 win at a lightning links slot.

Bottom line for this day11hours of gambling and - thanks to lighning links - a little better off than my budgetted loss. Now it is almost midnight (3am Philly time) and time to sleep.

It's easy actually. When on my solo trips, they don't bother me at all. When I am with the wife, when we see the timeshare folks, we just separate, and walk far away from each other. :grrr:
