I ask because I have a growing interest since my 8 and 10 year old grandsons love playing baseball. The oldest lives near Houston and has had the good fortune the past 3 or 4 years to attend many Astros home games and developed a pretty healthy knowledge of the players and the game.

Last August he was part of a group of kids that got to meet some of the players at an Astros game and to have a baseball signed by these two folks below.

I’m sure you recognize this current player?

    upload_2019-6-25_23-9-24.jpeg

And you old timers might recognize this retired player that played for the Astros

    So,

    1) Who do you think is the best player this season?

    2) Who is your favorite player this season?

    My grandsons picks are:
    Best: Mike Trout
    Favorite: Jose Altuve

Mike Trout is certainly the best player in MLB.

Love watching the way Alex Bregman, Frankie Lindor, Javier Baez, & Christian Yelich play the game. Helps that all 4 are elite players.

On the pitching side: he isn't the same guy he used to be but I loved watching Aroldis Chapman early in his career. He has/had absolutely incredible gears. Totally opposite style but current favorite is Kyle Hendricks. Ability to change speeds in & out to lefties and righties is like poetry in motion.

I would like to say that I'm loving the San Diego Padres this season as a team working together to make wins happen.
I know it's not an individual player I'm mentioning, @Georgran...but I'm so pleased to see a turnaround for them after so much disappointment in the past several years. Makes me happy.

I get it @ardee, a loyal and happy fan base is exactly what’s needed when a team is struggling, glad to hear the Padres are working together. Best of luck Padres :D

Hmmm, think the Cubbies might send him Astros way? Their pitching right now could use an extra arm.

Trout for current player, and Willie Mays was my favorite player growing up. Both have all 5 tools needed for a top baseball player.

    1. Hard to make an argument for anyone other than Trout.
    2. As a huge Astros fan (still!), I gotta go with Bregman as my 'favorite' this season - even though he's had some issues this year. Yelich is right up there, though.

Pitching? As an old guy, I make it a point to be sure I watch every game Verlander pitches. I love watching the guy pitch when his stuff is working.

I'm a homer and put Christen Lelich in both categories.

All time: Hank Aaron of the MILWAUKEE Braves.

Mike Trout. Greater Philadelphia area guy, big time Eagles fan, future Hall Of Famer.

All Time? I have to go with Mike Schmidt.

The best player is Mike Trout period, but aside from that the Nationals have been working together to create many losses through a lethal combination of atrocious defense, untimely hitting, and bullpen implosions.

You realize why Buster Posey and company stood still and didn't rush in, right? It's because they knew Strickland was a scumbag who had no grounds to throw at Bryce except for a home run YEARS earlier. Strickland is low-class trash and the Giants were right to get rid of him.

nice .jpg :wave:incorrect info, Posey was told prior to the incident. Posey stood still as to not get involved and lose endorsements. u say "and company stood still " if that is true why did MORSE suffer a concussion as he tried to break up the melee? You realize everyone has their on opinion, right? you have yours and i have mine.:D:D:D

Mookie Betts. Hell, just his name makes me smile, but the way he plays the game and conducts himself off the field add to his appeal.

these are all red sox biased..

in the mid 60's it was Dick The Monster Raditz...google his stats against the mick. you'll be amazed.
plus he did something for me when i was bedridden for months when i was 9.

in the 70's it was Yaz who carried that 67 team on his back with bill spaceman lee a close second. after all
any guy that calls zimmer a gerbil can't be all that bad. met both of them a couple times

Today it's Mookie who is right there with trout as in the top tier in the game.
plus he's one heck of a bowler and has rolled a 300 a couple of times

Well, yeah, they EVENTUALLY got there, but not nearly as quickly as customary. Also, both Strickland and Harper got one reasonable punch in. Not sure anybody's ass got kicked. Regardless, Strickland has always been a trash player/person and SF was correct in offloading him.
