I'm confused as to why you said you weren't optimistic that the D doesn't give out comps by asking because you earn comp points. You earn comp points at Boyd too. Or is it because the D offers Cash AND Comps, where Boyd just offers Cash/Free Play OR Comps? Or jack shit if you're Ruby like I am...

This has been a great trip report. I post pics but less detail when I do one. I have really enjoyed the detail in this report and rarely run across a trip that is almost identical to my own. Add in some live poker and you could remove the almost from that statement. I plan to play the Colossus at the WSOP on my upcoming trip but the rest of the trip will be 12 hours per day of VP. I can only hope to replicate some of your success.

Yes Tring. When 4 queen's started their program of cash and comps, they stopped writing me comps. While the D isn't as generous they have the same approach. Also, I've never seen anyone ask for a comp at the Vue Bar. It is still closed as I write this, but someone should give it a try. I consider my Boyd points as cash and am not going to spend them on things that they will give me.

Thank you for offering statistical analysis for things reported on this board. Sometimes things seem almost impossible, but are bound to happen, even with some regularity, given the number of people involved. I had a batch of 4 RF's in 3 days that I found both wonderful and improbable, but I've gotten 3 before and know others that have as well. The 2nd batch of 3 seemed crazier. I've never had a 2nd batch to start with and they were all 4 card holds. Still, there a 13 day gap in between. That 2nd batch would have normally occurred at the beginning of my next 2 week trip. That wouldn't have seemed nearly as wild to me.

    To math!!

Thank you. The trip isn't over yet, but I don't expect another one like it anytime soon. Sounds like you play enough not to be surprised that my wins or losses generally total less than $1000 over a couple weeks. Loss can be bigger when I don't hit a Royal and wins are bigger when I hit a batch or hit when I happen to be playing dollars. Never anything like this.
I wish you luck in both your tournament and VP play. I think the VP gods are partial to grinders.

Great trip report so far! We frequent the same places and machines and it is fun reading a report that centers on downtown vp/food/beer and utilizing offers and comps. Learned quite a bit from this report. I get ants in my pants and can’t grind at the same casino for the amount of time that you do. That’s why downtown is great. I really like the stations group but you can’t exactly walk out of Red Rock casino and hit some vp at another casino like you can downtown. Same issue with south point. Good luck for the rest of your trip and thanks for doing this trip report.

I finally count my money and leave my suite. Turns out that I have to get a voucher from the players desk to cover the Hugo's tab from last night, but it only takes a couple of minutes.
I'm here for the VP tournament for the next 3 days. My trip started and is ending here. My room is ready, 11th floor facing the plaza. I'm pleased that the Pick the Frog dates this week starts today. They don't do it Weds, but I should get 3 picks this week. The player's desk disagrees. No frog picks for tournament guests. I do have a $20 food credit and they give me 2 buffet vouchers.
I start playing .25c JOB at BHB at 10:00 AM. I must have done some over enthusiastic button slapping last night, because I injured my right index finger. It's sore enough that I try not to use it.
    I hit 8's at 10:27 and J's at 11:18. I lost $100 at 11:34. At 12:10 I'm dealt J-A of hearts and perk up a bit. I drew a Spade Queen. I lost another $100 at 12:40. I take a lunch break. I have the 15 TC's for a buffet, so that's were I eat.
After lunch, I decide to switch to .25c 10/7 DB.
At 2:40 I hit Aces for $200 with an inactive kicker. I let the Aces do their sword dance before I play it off. My energy has crashed after lunch and I forgot to get the scratch card. I was nodding off when I hit K's at 2:50. It was time for a nap. I quit at 3:10 now up $50 for the day. It was a nice come back. I waved to Brandon, the bartender that day, as I headed to my room. I figured that I should cash in my ticket first, ad then realized that I didn't have a ticket to cash in.
Around a minute or so had passed, but the ticket was already gone when I got back. I waved over security hoping that the thief hadn't cashed it yet. Security didn't seem to understand that response time might matter and spent some time explaining to me how it was my fault. The slot attendant and manager were pretty efficient. The ticket had already been cashed before I returned. I filled out a report. I could have easily lost that last $100 in the machine, shrugged it off, and took a nap. Losing that $350, though, bothered me a lot more. I did go to my room for a break, but couldn't sleep. I was far from devastated , but the wind was out of my sails.

I didn't start playing again until 7:45. I went back to the BHB for .25 JOB. I lost $100 at 9:22. Hit Q's at 9:41, 5's at 10:05, Q's at 10:14. I quit at 11:05 PM when my credits had dropped to my $100 buy in. I had 1839 points I was down $400 with the stolen ticket and had about $12 in scratch cards. My points were lower than usual, but I still was approved for a $25 777 comp at my machine.
I found out that the bar back liked the Mano Hef too, so I ate dinner and brought him a beer for after his shift. He's gone out of his way to bring me a lot of beers.

So that was the day. Haven't hit that high note yet Diamond Jim, but the tournament starts tomorrow.

Bummer about the thief. Sad that they can get to them so fast. I got lucky with a lost ticket this year. It was past 3am at a local and it's possible an employee turned it in at that hour. I was hand paid about $80.

Why did you have to go to the desk? My past couple of times in Hugo's I've given them the players card and they hit the comp account to cover the charge. Has there been a change?

This happened to me one time several years ago with a ticket that was just North of $100. I consoled myself by thinking that maybe the person that cashed it needed the money a whole lot more than I did. Definitely stretching for a silver lining but it made me feel a little better.

I am pretty convinced that ticket thieves work MSS pretty hard. A guy a BHB had a much larger ticket stolen when he was a couple machines down talking to a friend. Someone stole a $1 that I had left at BHB to preserve my tier credit. This is just the incidents I was present for. A guy at BHB forgot a $100 and an attendant discovered it, but his machine was between 2 of us who had played with him and it would have been a really risky move to steal it. Whoever is doing it, snatches the ticket right away and immediately cashes it. It's obviously the player's responsibility to retain the ticket, but it surprises me that they don't camera up those cash out machines. They know the exact second where and when the ticket is cashed. Seems that the next time the thief visited the casino, they could escort him to the back room and wait for the police. Then the thieves would work elsewhere. I wasn't kidding when I suggested that Jerry's Nugget is actually a more secure place than most downtown casinos. I feel safe in all of them, but it only takes a few seconds of letting your guard down to lose something.

Didn't they just take the comps off your card at the end of the meal? Too late for this, but I think they offer a senior 20% entree discount at all the 4Q's restaurants for players card holders, if you qualify.

Your disappearing voucher brings back one vivid memory. A few years ago I had a long session at the Cal, and had about the same amount as you in the machine when I got up and left without cashing out. Part of the reason is that on a bad trip, you get so used to getting up and having nothing to cash out that it becomes automatic to just pull the card and leave. I was halfway through Binion's when luckily, something triggered in my head. I ran back to the Cal, short of breath, getting there probably 5 minutes after I left, and was shocked/relieved to find that no one had cashed out my credits yet! Don't tell me I am lucky though, as I have an story from years ago when my rental car got stolen after I left the key in the trunk lock for 20 minutes.

Sorry that your story ends differently than my voucher did. Isn't it amazing how different security acts when it is your money that is stolen vs the casino's money?

I did get the discount, but asked for a room charge so that they would also use my room credits.

Glad you got your money back. I'm guessing that they have enough experience with ticket theft at MSS, that they already figure it's cashed before they're notified.

What we do is tell the waiter to charge $xx to the room to use any food credits, and to charge the rest to the card so there is nothing left to cover later.

Wow, that is crazy with the stolen ticket from the machine. You hear so many stories about such things happening. I personally can't imagine myself getting up from a machine and walking away, when there is money, especially a considerable amount left in the machine.

Sorry to hear about the stolen voucher. Terrible when something like that happens. With all the cameras in a casino, you would think they would have some video of who cashed out your machine. I'm sure the bartender would back you up. I wonder if they see anybody at the bar who didn't appear to be playing.

Terrible about that TITO thief, i guarantee they have the culprit on tape, if they would bother to look for them. Many years ago, we and another couple were in vegas, i think we were gambling at the old lady luck when my buddies wife realized she had left her cup of nickles sitting next to her machine , maybe 15 min after we left, she went back and they were still sitting right there.

It's OK for a retail price, but like most beer, to go is a fraction of a bar pour. Picked up a four pack for $15.99 at a small store in Chicago this weekend, $1 less for a four pack of 30th anniversary Bell's Cherry Barrel Aged Stout. That said, I'd buy at least one pour on draft since I never had a chance to have a draft pour at their taproom (or elsewhere), and sometimes draft pours better (or at least different) than a bottle pour (sometimes worse as well, see bad / dirty tap lines for bars with poor maintenance).

Looking forward to the remaining posts for this trip report, how are the suites at 4Queens? Any newer or nicer furniture than the standard south tower rooms?

I'm way to easy to please to be an authority on suites. I think that they are very comfortable. There is a lot more furniture with a couple couches, couple chairs, large TV, microwave, fancier shampoo, soap, tooth brushes, mouthwash, etc. I've only seen really nice suits on TV, so I don't have much to compare it too. Some of their suites have kitchenets. I prefer the one I was in without one.

    eagerly awaiting the next installment.
which way will variance swing, will our hero cover the lost ticket?
would be fascinating to know how many hands in total you played,
what is the sample size, will there be regression to the mean?

We also feel security at MSS is less tight than the cal and much less tight than golden gate. I think it is the many entrances, especially the one by valet, closest to the BHB, there are some fun poker machines around there (like dream card), but I just can't sit around there with my back to the door, even more so for my gf with her purse. We have seen a lot of sketchy characters pop in there late and float around a while before leaving.
