You need to play the game with them. Call them back and select the option to cancel your service. Then they'll connect you to someone in the US. Tell them how disappointed you are in the service and especially the price and you just can't afford it anymore. I do this once a year when my discounts run out. I have more in discounts ($80 a month) then my actual bill ($58 a month). Don't get mad. Get even. Oh...and once you've negotiated a great discount, ask them to throw in some premium channels for free for a few months.

Has anybody had any luck calling Directv retention lately and gotten a discount on their monthly bill? I have done it for years with varying degrees of success, but had a $60/month discount fall off two months ago and called two different times and got nowhere (other than free showtime which i don't even care about). Just checking for any current success on this topic and if so, anything special said in order to get a discount.

Don't really want to drop them, but may seriously consider it now. I have been with Directv for 12 years and frustrating there are no loyalty offers available. I will get off my soap box now.......

    Thanks for any replies.

if their website has the functionality to make changes or if you have some sort of bundle with phone and/or internet, try going to their website.

I have Verizon Fios and I re-up with them on 2-year commitments, but I gotta let the previous one expire and pay the "full" price for a month. Then I can go to the website and they offer a hefty discount for re-upping again, and I can just do it on the website. They know you're coming and they would just as soon not have to have as many phone agents, so they let you do it online. It's worth paying an extra $50 for one month not to have to waste time on the phone.

I"m close to dropping Diretv. I have been a loyal customer since 1996. However, it's almost time to cut the cord. If it wasn't for all the sports I watch it'd be gone. Once Hulu/sling have more channels it's time to end the over priced Directv.

I got a $40 discount about a month ago(I was rolling off a $55 discount), i didn't think it was hard, pretty much the same script, you MUST talk to the retention fols though, the regular reps just dont have the power to give discounts.
I dont even threaten to quit, just imply I might, I say the bill is getting really high and I've been getting some offers, is there anything you can do?

I dropped MLB to save some money. I won't go near baseball until the Stanley Cup is over.

Now that the Phillies are doing well, I would like to pick it back up. Am I wrong to assume they will prorate for the balance of the schedule?

Are you talking about mlb.tv? They prorate sort of in that they do reduce the price over time but it’s not a true prorate. Around Father’s Day or all star break they might run a sale.

Along with 6 buddies, I have the Phillies to win the NL East and another ticket that they win over 88.5 games. Two $70 bets, but I was reminded that the Phils shit the bed last year after the all star break.

I dont think cutting the cord would.save money cause
Internet 60-70$ depend on the speed
    Streaming service 30-50$
Where is value in cutting the cord$
You can save 20$ a month but overall benefit is not the same. I have a firestick where I can watch anything I want but I didnt cut the cord cause I like watching other show and local channel.

Well I have been with comcast directtv and att at my house. So everytime my contract is over I would look for 2 year deals and I can find deals that is less than 120$ and rotate service when it expire.

I do this each year for Sunday Ticket and got About $100 off for the season. Just asked how much it was and acted like it was too much and they countered with a “special deal.” I don’t know why they offer it, we get Sunday Ticket every year and obviously are football fans.

local channels are still free via a $30 antennae. We have that hooked up to a few TVs and it works great...I think we get about 25 over the air free channels with it, including the 4 major networks.

We’ve had AT&T and Direct TV for 20+ years... since we got rid of the BIG dish. We don’t have a lot of options. I’d sooner stick a needle in my eye than call the 1-800 number. Yeah it’s awful.

We’ve honestly had very few issues and the ones we’ve had have been resolved to our satisfaction. I don’t play games with them, I just pay the bill.

I don’t go to the grocery store and haggle over the price of a steak or leave my favorite casino cause they tinker with the comp program.
