Other than gambling, what do you like about casinos/casino resorts?

    • Pool - A big, relatively quiet, pool complex is a must in the summer.
    • Restaurants - At least a few restaurants that interest me. Ideally I’d prefer a high end, or two, restaurant along with some mid-tier and lower priced restaurants. A nice sports bar with Good sandwiches is a big plus. Dining is high on my priority list.
    • Lounges and Bars - I like a nice, low key lounge to enjoy a drink or two. Every once in a while I’ll take in a more lively atmosphere and enjoy a lounge/bar with some live music. I’m not a club person so day-clubs/nightclubs don’t enter the equation.
    • Customer service - If I’m going to spend 10 days at a resort this is a biggie for me. I don’t need to have my boots licked but I do want the staff to be competent, courteous and professional.
    • Value - I’m of the opinion that there’s value to be found at high end resorts as well as more budget friendly ones. I don’t mind spending more money to stay at a higher tier resort - I just want to know beforehand that I’ll get the kind of experience that I’m paying for.
Oddly enough, gambling conditions aren’t that high on my list. If I can’t find what I’m looking for at my home base I don’t mind in the least making a trip downtown or the casino(s) next door. Comps aren’t that important to me. I do take advantage of reduced room rates from being a member of a casino’s loyalty program but I’m a true believer of comping yourself.

I don't have to make the bed or clean the bathroom

I don't have to leave the property if I don't want to. Compare that to a regular hotel or many other resorts that have everything spread out. Go to Bellagio and you can see a botanical show, an art museum, a cirque show, eat at a snack bar or one of the best restaurants around (many to choose from), go to a fancy chocolate shop, go to the spa, work out, get your hair/nails done, pool time, sit at a bar with a live piano and look out your hotel window for one of the most iconic LV sights - not to mention afternoon English tea and shopping, ice cream, bakery, etc. etc. etc.

No need to leave the property when you are at a major Strip resort. I haven’t “walked the strip” in years—just plop me at Aria, Bellagio, CP, Wynn, or V/P and I’m good for a few days.

I like to explore and discover new things about the different properties. So excited to look around at all the cool things. :D

I hope to someday discover the mythical Secret Pizza. :hmmm:

Seeing and mingling with the different people from around the world who are there for the same reasons as you. Does anyone think Vegas has it own distinct smell?

OK, hubs loved this thread and wanted to add his two cents:

    1) Live music (he loves live music, even if cover bands)

    2) Bars open 24/7 (he loves this, I think he needs a leash! ;) he's still singing @Gaggles' day drinking song!)

    4) the staff, he always makes buddies!

    5) charge it to the room!

Another thing I like about the casino/casino resorts is the overall sense of SECURITY they provide. It's nice to know that as you stroll around their premises you feel relaxed when you see the amount of security being provided.

Cameras at every conceivable angle and location, with huge, burly men walking around in uniform armed and ready. Well, not all of them are huge and burly. Some of them are smaller than me and I'm average. Some of them look like a 100 years old. Those guys are cute (as my wife would say). But I bet they pack a whollop pound for pound and year for year, lol!

But I think it adds to the fun, excitement, and relaxation when in the casinos. Just one part of many that makes Vegas so special.

One time at work we played a thought experiment about what is your favorite word to say. Mine was ‘absolutely’. Because if you can say that to another person’s request it means you can make them happy. And maybe I’ve just learned the correct questions, but anytime that I’m in a casino resort and ask “Can I have ...?” the response is so often “Absolutely!”

I go to Vegas solo. My husband hates everything about it so once or twice a year I escape and take a "land cruise". All the points previously mentioned apply, housekeeping, spa, pool, attractions, etc.

I can eat or drink anything I want 24 hours a day.
I feel safe 24 hours a day, especially at the Wynn.
The service is extraordinary so much better than at hotels in other locations.
For me, gambling is a perk and I trust Vegas house more than my local to give me a fair shake.

I know that the entire town is built on separating me from my money....but so is every other tourist destination. Vegas is just more honest and the value proposition with comps and the level of service is much better. When I'm up at the House blues or Skyfall and look across this city built out of nothing by criminals and cons, I honest to God, think it's the purest form of the American dream.

Slots / gambling will always be my number one reason I Vegas.

The Icing on the Vegas cake for me:

    a) the sensation I feel wandering along the glittery strip at nighttime still brings the same wonderment as the very first time. The early morning walk on the strip at least once a trip is so serene and calming before the hustle of the day.

    b) stepping into the resort straight from the airport, hearing all the familiar sounds of the casino, VIP checkin, having a host who really knows me at my two favorite places, the ease and freedom to wander around one or ten casinos whenever the mood strikes, playing all night.

    c) the great luxurious hotel rooms or suites with all the amenities, walking into the freshly made up room after daily housekeeping, leaving the drapes open at nighttime or just before dawn as I fall asleep so the last thing I see are the Vegas lights and silhouettes (at home, it’s pitch dark in my bedroom, lol).

    d) all the food choices from fine dining to a quick sandwich at Earl of Sandwich whenever I feel like it. Anticipating my meal at two or more really nice restaurants every trip, at least one favorite and one new one. This is now a favorite thing to do and influenced by all the dining critiques and recs here at VMB :feedme:

    e) all the fantastic FREE stuff I get ;);) (rooms, suites, food, beverage, Freeplay, shows) in return for spending money on slots for merely doing what I like best and would spend anyway, playing slots.
Disney never gives me freebies :(

The things that draw me is almost exactly the same as the OP with the exception of No 5. Weather is a big draw for me as is the dining.

It was gambling that originally drew me to Vegas but over the years it has become much more than that, although it does still take up a chunk of each day.

The fact is, although prices are rising, I can go there and have effectively an all inclusive vacation for less than I could in Europe, with better variety and better weather.

    The decadence.

And the fact that I can leave whenever I want to eat someplace cheaper and/or more interesting.

I do not gamble so there is nothing that excites me about casinos. I go to Las Vegas for the Vegas experience. I love the vibe, the food choices and excitement of Las Vegas. The sights, the sounds and the smells of Vegas. Nothing like it at home. You can keep the gambling.

1 - cheap / comped rooms - paying $150+ for a la Quinta near Boston Logan seems horrifically spendy after Vegas prices

2 - hot weather / decent pools - a must when coming from the UK

3 - open 24 hours - see above - the 8 hour time difference means that we often wake well before 5 am for our first few nights

4 - lots of variety - most casino resorts have fine dining & cafe, quality production shows & free shows. Plus you never know who you are going to meet at a table . Only in a casino would (in six hours )chat to a farmer from the Midwest , a soldier from Atlanta , a very drunk mum from Canada and a college kid on basketball tryouts
