First trip stayed at the Frontier. Had no idea about the strike. The taxi driver told us about it on the way and asked us not to stay there again.
Stayed at the Stardust in 2006, the last year it was open.
Watched the TI pirate battle, when it was grubby pirates vs. stuffy Brits.
Watched Jackie Gaughan playing poker at El Cortez. Wish I'd had the guts to join the game.
Played craps in the "tub" at Casino Royale.

So many great memories. My first flight into town and seeing the hotels, I said to myself "Dorothy, we ain't in Reno anymore!" The many summer golf trips were great too, but one was a trip a buddy and I made. Bruce was a regular at a lounge I ran that over time became a good friend. After hearing about my LV trips for a couple of years, he asked if he could tag along on a trip and I said sure. He'd never been on a plane and all of his vacations were with his family in a trailer.
I put together a trip and next thing I knew we were in LV. That night we walked the strip for hours. It was great to see his look of amazement all the way along. The only sour note was a meal we had at the Sands. It was late and we were hungry. He saw a sign outside of the Sands for $6.95 steak and lobster dinner. I tried warning him off, but he had to try it. This was truly the the only really bad meal I've had in LV. The rest of the trip was great though. It was so much fun to show a friend a place you really enjoy and have him agree. In time he and his wife became LV regulars.
Sadly, Bruce passed away from cancer about ten years back, but I'll always have those memories.

    Good Luck!

Ate dinner at Roberta's and Jackie greeted us at our table. So classy.

Ten years earlier, ate a "pancake breakfast" at the Boardwalk advertised on the marquee for 59c. Disgusting.

That same trip, we stayed at La Concha. Room looked exactly like the scene in Casino. To clarify, the movie was released a few years later and I recognized the wallpaper instantly.

What was the name of the woman who was the star of Lido de Paris? She even was even featured on an airplane.

Loved the old Pirate battle. How crowded! And, boy, did that British captain ever hold his breath a long time when he was sunk only to emerge still at attention.
Jackie Gaughan ~ a Vegas legend who I also saw playing cards.

The Holiday Inn (with its river boat motif) grew up to become Harrahs.
I remember seeing mockups of rooms displayed on the strip that would be created at Paris and the Venetian in front of the construction site.
Vegas Club upstairs. A friend who played hockey had to take me up there to see his action picture in the bar.

    The original O'sheas.

During family trips back in the day, we frequently used to go our separate ways to do our afternoon gambling and whatnot with plans to meet up at a specific time so we could head to dinner together. We never had to say the location of the meeting place - we all knew it was at the O'sheas near the hot dog counter.

It was always funny to find my dad the first one there, munching on a hot dog. Even though he knew our next stop was dinner, he considered the hot dogs his appetizer.

Las Vegas is the only place I have ever eaten steak and eggs. Is that a thing anywhere else?

Going to Desert Inn - that place was beautiful and the only casino I recall that did not have the coin droppers, which made the casino unusually quiet and dignified. I have a great picture of myself and my brother overlooking the grounds - both are gone now.
Stayed at Stardust and New Frontier.
Crossed LV Blvd on the street - no crosswalks
Walked to El Cortez at night when it was dangerous
Drove down Koval and Paradise without traffic
    Saw old Alladin before implosion
Many good times at Barbary Coast
Playing $1 blackjack with the one dollar metal coins at Silver City casino (across from where Stardust used to be)

Aki Alma was the featured showgirl in the 90's. And yes, they even had her on a special aircraft!

The one I played during the same time frame was at C.C. in a satellite casino in one of the towers. I hit the $50 cup in the center and got to play the bonus round. I won $1700. I would love to see the return of some carney games, they were fun.
