I was browsing Youtube and ran across one of the very first episodes of The Price is Right. In the showcase was a 7 day 6 night stay for 2 at "the worlds largest casino"....the Union Plaza in Las Vegas....
    Wow!

I assume the "world's largest casino" was a lie? I didn't even know it was called the Union Plaza. And for people who don't want to watch the whole thing, start at the 18 minute mark.

But I watched it all. Amazing how inflation compounds. But that freezer and grammaphone were relatively expensive. Also no $100 Bonus for a perfect bid (now $500).

@tringlomane Not a lie. When it opened it had 500 rooms which made it the largest hotel. The name Union Plaza came from the Union Pacific railroad which had a depot on that spot, before the hotel was built.
Befuddling that the closest Amtrak station to Las Vega is now Kingman AZ.

Get a load of Terry. Showed he's a Game 7 clutch shooter with ice water in his veins. Just straight ruthless.

I suppose that would make it a bit of a "spin" in that case. The number of rooms at a property shouldn't be the measuring stick for title of largest casino. Largest resort, or even casino resort? That's a bit more accurate (if not still misleading).

    Foxwoods isn't it?

MGM was at one point but for some reason I'm remembering seeing somewhere that Foxwoods is now bigger?

It’s actually the WinStar World Casino Resort in Thackerville, OK (of all places!). Foxwoods is a close second.

How long did that last? Didn't MGM Grand (now Bally's) have over 500 rooms when it opened? I guess that happened about a year after that TPIR episode. Caesars Palace didn't even have 500 rooms though? WOW!

80 miles from Dallas is the reason it's the biggest casino in the world. Lol

Winstar... an Indian casino just north of Texas in Oklahoma... I've never been & never will be (they charge a 50-cent commission per hand - win or lose - on all table games).

    edit: oops!
    Y'all already knew that!

I think it may have been the world's largest casino floor with 66,000 Square Feet at it's opening in 1971.

The International (later Hilton and now Westgate) opened in 1969 with 1500 rooms. At that time it was the worlds largest hotel. So Union Plaza's claim of largest casino (which opened in 1971) could be true based only on the size of the gaming floor.

Also for fun, MGM Grand (now Bally's) opened in December 1973 and billed itself as the largest resort in the world with 2100 rooms, and 50,000 sq. feet of gaming space. So Union Plaza's claim to fame as the largest casino in the world was short lived.

That's so wrong. I mean you, not the casino charging 50-cent commission.
You can simply play their 8000+ slot machines.
