Okay...our son had to have his appendix taken out today. He called at 5:40 am, we talked through it, we waited an hour, and he said the pain was worse. I told him to head the ER and we would meet him there.

He was in surgery by lunch time.

He insisted we make the trip but we did not leave until after the surgery and report from the doctor. All went well and he is home resting now.

We were not sure we would be making the trip until all was done and okay...

Glad everything worked out with your son! No wonder you wanted to crash hard. Long and stressful day before heading to Vegas but you made it!! :lock::lock::lock::lock:

This is my portable office. I just could not stand working on the little screen with the daily tasks I have (billing stuff, mostly), so I added a 22" monitor that I keep in the box until I take a trip, It goes in an extra suitcase that we needed a while back.

It has really made my work easier when I am on the road.

Thank goodness for the Southwest baggage policy...we have four bags between us on most trips.

I love it! You are set up for staying in touch with VMB and doing your TR but please don't focus on us too much and have a great time!

    Recap from our first night...

After we checked in and got to the room, we put all of our clothes up for the trip. The walk-in closet makes that very easy. I don't like living out of a suitcase for more than a day or two if there is another option.

Had an issue with the TV fixed, the chocolates (and a nice note) arrive, and had them come for turn-down service. We delayed that service for a bit while we finished up in the room.

We were on the casino floor by around 9 p.m. or so.

I went to a $10 craps table, bought in and started a slow decline in chips that ended with a second $200 buy-in.

My wife was off slotting with the $250 in free play. She returned with two winning tickets--one for $185 and one for $85--from the free play and $40 or so she had. That would be the extent of her winning for the night. She returned for many "refills"--a fresh $20, $40, or whatever and a drink. I had to get all of her drinks at the table because she was never served by a cocktail server on the floor. Not good.

Cocktail service was slow, at best. The casino floor was very busy--it was one of the few times that I have seen all of the craps tables open and active.

The craps table slowly (really slowly) turned...people came and went, including one lady who practically pushed me off of my spot when she shoved her way in between people. She was just not a nice person... I was left with the small section of the rail next to the dealer at the backside of the table. Anyway, one shooter came in, bet the All/Tall/Small...and then rolled it. No one else was on it, but he finally got me back to "even" at $400. From there, it fluctuated between $300-$600 before I started to get hangry and colored up.

It was 12:22 when we got to 550 Pizza...12:30 was shown as closing time. Just in the nick of time! Got our usual "Gotham" and some drinks. That takes care of "hangry"!

Pocket dump from the first night shows us...down $250 in free play but with more cash that we left with by $50.

2493148B-E302-40B9-BD77-A77C7DE68FEA.jpeg My wife had emptied her things in the makeup area. When we got back to the room, everything was laid out neatly on a cloth. This is one of those details that we enjoy about staying in the Sky Suites.

I too love unpacking completely as it is part of getting that feeling of feeling settled and that I am truly away in my home away from home. LOL.

And the photo of your wife's things might get some interesting comments but on that score, she is my soulmate. My countertop on Vegas vacations (in contrast to my super tiny bathroom at home, where I don't have such a countertop) has about 3 times as many items (lipsticks, blushes, makeup brushes, Lush bath products, various creams, etc.) I lay everything out that first day when I unpack and when I come back after the room has been cleaned the first day, wonderful housekeeping has made the counter even prettier and more organized, like they took better care with my things than even I did. That treatment/feeling for me is almost unique to Vegas.:love::love::love::love:

I love the housekeeping at Sky Suites! When we were there last month we didn’t get turndown services - are these still happening? We may have just been missed.

I know that we have had on our Sky Suite trips, but I am not sure if it was every night.

    Pool time!

We slept in a bit and my wife went to workout. I went down and lost a little on craps and also got a new MLife card...the one time I played slots last night, the card did not work. It had demagnetized...

We will be here for a few hours...time for a bucket of beers...

Got back from the pool and soon heard a knock on the door. John from maintenance was here because housekeeping had reported a smell the room. He was going to change the filters, but they were all brand new. There was no smell--perhaps something in passing or whatever--but the room was fine. He did quickly fix a minor clicking noise in one of the AC fans, He was very nice. I added him to my list of folks to let management know provided exceptional service.

Two people at the Sky Pool recognized us from last fall. They were very nice and also took good care of us...

I will add more as I go today, but it is time to go down and reserve some seats at the pool. They had no loungers together when I got there yesterday...it was very crowded. That issue did get taken care of within a very short time.

    More to come...
