After reading the recent comments about the $15/day refrigerator fee at Gold Coast, I figured I'd post the optional fees for the Golden Nugget that are in addition to the daily room rate and the resort fee ($32+tax)

VIP CHECK IN — $56.50/stay: Guarantee your room location & requests (excluding smoking rooms) with VIP Check In. VIP Lounge check-in & line passes for The Buffet & Showroom. Not Valid for Suites on Fri, Sat, and Sun.

SMOKING ROOM FEE — $56.50/night: Smoking Rooms are available in Carson and Gold Tower.

LATE CHECK OUT — $39.55/stay: Stay and Play a little longer with our 2PM Late Check Out Special. $55+tax for suites.

PET FEE — $67.80/night: Cuddle up with your pets. Available in Carson and Rush Towers Deluxe Rooms only.

FRIDGE — $33.90/night: A refrigerator can be delivered to your room.

So, let's say you want a smoking room with a fridge and want to guarantee an FSE view room, and on the last day you want a late check out at 2pm for a 2 night stay. That would be $97+$113+$68= $278 plus tax, in addition to the resort fee for 2 nights, that's $342 PLUS TAX for a 2 night stay and that does not include the daily room rate!

Much of this could have been had at many hotels (especially in the past) with zero fees, in a standard smoking room in a hotel where all rooms have a fridge, and then calling the front desk to ask to check out a couple of hours late on check out day.

    Where does it end?

It needs to end, and end now.

Now, when I went to Vegas.com just checking rates for several hotels, the Golden Nugget came in a lot cheaper than the web site of the GN. The additional fee's were still listed on Vegas.com, but what was a 56.00 room rate on the GN web site, the same room (run of house) was 37.00 a night on Vegas.com, not including resort fee.

I book with the hotels directly, but with that kind of difference, maybe I should consider Vegas.com?

Just sharing what I came across when searching hotels and room rates.

But... but... it's THE Golden Nugget! As so many members of their staff seem to so confidently exclaim.

I guess when we share information like this it allows us to make more wise choices and decisions.

Thanks for the heads up, @zignerlv .

And I agree. Where does it end? Not anytime soon sad to say. Business pricing is based on whatever the market will bear. If enough consumers vote with their wallet it might make the bean counters reconsider their money grabbing schemes.

Even though I've never stayed there (I really should someday...) this makes the Four Queens stand right out as the one resort that hasn't sold out into the modern hospitality bullshit. No resort fees. No paid parking for hotel guests. And any time I've gone through the motions to book a room on their website, I've never been met with any "would you like to add on (insert random thing here) for an extra $19.95?"-type prompt.

Think you get hit for all those charges if you try to do the same anywhere, I'm guessing they're not upfront on the other sites.

Surely being upfront about it is better?

    Disclaimer - I love the place :wink2:

A lot of those fees only count for people off of the street. Most of them never end up on the bill depending on status and your gambling habits. Just saying.

With that said. Vegas used to cater to gamblers. That’s not necessarily the case anymore. With the money being made off of conventions, fancy restaurants, clubs and tourists, gamblers aren’t as important to casinos as they once were. Especially if you are a low roller.

To someone putting the fees on an expense report for work. Who cares. To young people coming to party more than gamble. They don’t know any different than to pay the fees. To the tourist who is coming on vacation or a bachelorette/bachelor party it’s just the price of admission.

All the new fees suck but things change with time. If you think the fees will be going away. Guess again.

For me It ends with me not going to Las Vegas.

That is something only a couple years ago that I NEVER thought I would say.

If people want it to stop the only thing we can do is stay away in mass. And honestly that doesn't guarantee it will end.

It depends if you think Vegas is value for money at the end of the day. If you enjoy it and get the value then continue going but on the other hand if you feel the nickel and diming is getting too much for you then take a break and explore other places (and believe me there are some amazing places away from Paradise).

As long as the casinos are making their money they will push it to the tipping point but at some stage that will come. Whether that is if the economy turns or some other reason but it will come and you can head back there and pick up the value again.

I’m happy enough trying different places even though we love Vegas but it has never been the be all end all that it is to others.

I concur. I stayed at the GN for about 20 visits over a ten year span. A few years ago I noticed they were cutting little corners (spa, VIP room, buffet, Rush Tower check in seemingly always closed) that added up. I’ve got loads of great memories from the GN and really enjoyed my time there but the penny pinching coupled with the increased cost of staying there finally got to the tipping point. Love, love, love downtown but even as a low roller I get better value, at least as far as rooms go, on the strip. Much better. I can accept and live with price increases; but not when they go hand in hand with across the board decreases in quality and service.

I’ll be interested to see if Circa does indeed put the GN in a position to step up their game.......

I have much of the same observations, and clearly they are penny pinching while increasing fees. Yes, the Rush Tower check-in is almost always closed (I've seen it closed even on Friday afternoons of busy weekends, so I suspect it is only open a handful of days a year). The Keurigs are gone from the Rush Tower rooms, so no more in room coffee. My "favorite" cutback is that about 1-2 years ago, they removed the complimentary bottled water in the VIP check in areas, and instead have a pitcher of flavored water beside plastic cups. This way you can't take a bottle with you for later.

I know a story that the CEO visited, was near the VIP check-in and asked for water. Someone fetched him a cup of water from the VIP pitcher, and he rejected it. The VIP check-in room pitcher water wasn't good enough for him, but it's good enough for us!

Yeah, this was one of the biggies for me. For a long time it was only $25/stay which I thought was a helluva deal. Getting between five and ten little bottles of water everyday easily paid for itself over the course of a week and a half.

Where does it end? When they start charging fees to collect fees. That would be a Fee Fee.

I’ve been staying here for so long I’m unsure how many years it’s been. I’ve always had excellent customer service and delicious meals. I even pay for the VIP check in because it’s so convenient takes less than 5 minutes and I’m on my way to gamble. That cucumber mint lemon water they have at VIP check inis the best!! I will continue to stay but I’m glad I do not smoke or bring my pets that could get really expensive! Can’t wait to check in again in 125 sleeps!!

I'm the same, and I don't even gamble.

I can definitely see how some of the stuff irks people, though.

I was in downtown last week and I entered GN once, just to use the restroom. That is one of the few places I don't have a player's card of with me (and I carry tens of cards with me every trip). I just act as if it doesn't even exist and haven't played there a dime in the last 7-8 years.

This is not because I was treated badly etc, but just because I don't feel the need to patronize there. You have great gambling and rooms and prices a few steps away, so why bother with GN? It's nothing like a strip luxury hotel either, as they think they are.

I just printed out our folio from a Saturday night stay in an any-old city in heart of So Cal's Inland Empire. We only paid $202 with tax because thankfully there was no resort or parking fee. Victory!!!!

Some of these upcharges don't offend me. Pet fee? Good. Late check out. Kinda standard. But I do get the ire. I just hope the years of anger and rage I've seen expressed here is being channeled to showing these folks we mean business, and people are cutting up casino cards and mailing 'em back with a note as to why, and just generally boycotting all the offending hotels. Gotta walk the walk or it's not going to change ... and it still might not. But at least we've backed up our talk.
