Why do I always find the machine with the broken reader.
And its always a machine I want to play real bad.
Usually the machine right next to the one the wife is playing
I'm the guy mumbling "mf f card reader mf sob". While slamming the card in and out.

I see some people come to the crap or bj table but the don't give the dealers their player's card. To me it's their choice. Table, machine, whatever.

As for me, sometimes I don't give my players card at the crap table, sometimes I am doing a "hit and run" and don't expect to stay very long. If the table turns out to be a hot/warm table I bring out my card and say "ooops, forgot to give my card" (especially if I'm making higher bets than when I first started). Usually the pit crew rates me higher than if I gave them my card at the beginning (since I start off as a red chip player).

I'll play without my card if I do not want to be rated for various reasons. Just passing through and do not want to trigger a "visit". Checking out and do not want to hurt my average. Or, its a casino I just don't care about, or want to deal with any junk offers in the mail. This is often the case when a buddy drags me to Fremont St.

I have had a stranger ask me if I could play on their card before, during one of the above card-less sessions. Usually I'm asked when the casino has some sort of promo going on, like earn points and get a trinket/buffet or whatever. I always say no. Just in case I do hit it big, and said beggar claims I was playing their machine with their card.

This is so true. If you ask for it to be repaired I have frequently got the answer that it is on "the list." Well, are you going to reimburse me the points that I am NOT accumulating whilst we wait for the "list" to be completed? Annoying!

Has no legal influence on the winner. You put money in the machine and it wins - you are the winner. You could have no card, your card, Mickey Mouse's card. Literally doesn't matter. Now, the "frown factor" from the casino...shrug.

I also turn people down. I just don't want the headache. "Oh, you didn't play enough." "I thought I'd get offers like you." etc. The only time I have broken this rule is if someone asks me to just put a point on their card because their points are about to expire. IF I'm going to be at the particular casino, I have no problem doing that.

Understood. The same way having another players card in the machine does not dictate a handpay (been there actually). With that said, that has nothing to do with Lenny the bum crying foul that I was on "his" machine, with his card in the reader as proof, if I did hit something after agreeing to let him put his card in my machine.

Not playing lawyer, just saying I say "No" to avoid that possible scenario. Even if it means I can go to the tape, explain my story to security and tell it all to the cops. I'm saying I say "No" to a void having to do any of that.

The eye in the sky would see who pressed the button and put the money in the machine if there would be any discussion

Locally... Indian casinos I stopped playing with a card in. The comps weren’t worth it and I don’t want to be bothered for $10 free play and a free buffet once a month I’m not interested in going

As a machine tech, this is annoying! A casino that has 100's of machines and only 4 or 5 tech per shift, yeah it takes awhile to fix shit. Move to another machine and be nice about it. Here is another clue, don't be rude to the tech, and ask how long is going to take, cause it just went to bottom of the list.

The answers of being on the "list" that I was referring to did NOT come from a tech fyi. With the exception of one, I haven't met any techs (at least at Plaza) that haven't been friendly or cooperative. You came off as a tad bit defensive therefore I am clarifying. In no way did I even mention techs. Sometimes we need to check our "chip" at the door. :D

I get your frustration, but people are spending their vacation and hard earned money there. Some will get frustrated because they expect everything on their vacation to be perfect. It’s not right to take it out on you I get that, but try to be understanding.

I have no chip, been in this biz longer then players cards and bill acceptors.
Yes I am understanding, it's my job and work hard for my hard earned money, and vacation all over the world. Still no reason to blame the human for a machine fuck up.

I don't think anyone is upset with a Tech. I have only seen very friendly ones.
If the casino does not have enough tech's to support the amount of machines then they should re-evaluate that.
It can be frustrating when machines do not work especially when you want to play beside a spouse or friend.
Only once have I been frustrated enough to leave the casino and go to another one but that was after 4 machines in a row would not take my card.

Machines break and need repairs. You need to have enough staff to handle that and not impact customer satisfaction.. if you don't you will loose business (either I stand behind my friend not playing instead of playing beside him or we both move to a new area/casino)

Ultra-annoying...when there is only ONE of a type of machine and it's broken!!! Agree 100%. I've complained to management many times about the skeleton crew many of them try to have - not only with techs, but engineers that repair things in the room. Bad business all the way around.

Some casinos are very bad in fixing machines.
    They don’t hire enough people.
    those greedy casino owners/managers.

That is not how your initial response to tee6395's post came across to me as I read it. There was definitely a chip on your shoulder.

    [Emphasis added]

Putting a machine to the "bottom of the list" just because a customer---you know, the person whose money pays your salary---asked how long it will take to fix is, like, a totally normal thing for a person without a chip on his shoulder to do. Not. Just saying.

Slot Techs, in my experience, are night creatures. There might not be many of them on hand when you are playing, to get them to fix that card reader or what not. Since most roll in for shifts when business dies down, that way they can take machines off line, get new machines online, pop open any broken slots and otherwise dick with parts and pieces to keep the show going, without disturbing guests.

Usually, someone reports a machine problem with a slot attendant, who will pull out a stuck ticket or what not. And if the machine is actually broke, they just put a sticker on it, or shut it down, and report that for the techs that come at night.
