All of the Boyd properties do this...cut away about 50% on their double-deck pitch games.
It's another reason why I like the two-deck shoe favored by the El-Co & Golden Gate - they use a pre-set 'notch' to determine the cut-point, leaving about 67% of the cards "in play".
Plaza used to have the two-deck shoe as well, but has recently switched to a pitch game... If I recall correctly, they're not as bad as Boyd or South Point with their cut, but not as good as the notch on the shoe-game.

I try to play double deck at Palace Station and Suncoast every trip. Both use “notches” that go even deeper than the ElCo games. Probably there are more locals casinos that deal a deep double deck. Orleans and Gold Coast are dealer dependent on the cut, with a much better chance of good pen at the Orleans.....

I haven't played at Orleans, but a Gold Coast dealer told me when I asked about it that they are trained to cut-away about 50%.
I have a noticed a few dealers (very few) who cut away less...about 40% or so.
Looks like I may have to plan a Palace Station visit on an upcoming trip!

OK...minor & incomplete downtown blackjack update:
4-Queens now has three 3:2 tables... the $15 double-deck (no DAS) and a couple of $5 multi-deck shoes.
    Binion's remains 100% 6:5...unplayable.
Boyd's downtown casinos (Cal, Fremont, MSS) still do not allow DAS.
Tiffany is no longer dealing blackjack at the Plaza.
    At night, the El-Co's double-deck games were all $10 now (instead of 50/50, $5 & $10 tables).
The Golden Gate "High Limit Salon" never had their 2-deck game (with DAS) for $15 during the day, as they used to...it was $25 all the time.
DTG still has their CSM table, 3:2, DAS, LS & RSA @ $5 min...and it seems to be open all the time!
I never went into the Nugget.

I sure hope the ElCo doesn't shift to $10 single and double deck now. Those $5 tables alone are nearly all that is left to convince me to pay for the flight to come to Vegas. :ssst:

I only noticed the "all $10" at night when it was very crowded in there...first time I've seen that - even at night.
    (That was on 4/4)

In February(presidents day weekend). DTG’s CSM games were $10 from Friday night till Sunday about 9:00pm. Even in the morning I watched a $10 empty table sit open. At around 9:00pm sunday night one switched to $5.

While I can still get a $5 game here in MN, it does seem to be getting harder, even here. Usually on weekends they go from $5 to $10 by 2pm. But they will grandfather you in for as long as you're sitting there. Near Minneapolis at Mystic Lake, they have "Cosmic Blackjack" with good rules 3:2, DAS, RSA, and late surrender on weekend nights. Of the 8 tables, two are always $5. They have some $2 tables at all times across the casino, but require a 25cent ante, so I stay away from those.

Single-deck as well as double-deck? That is, no $5 tables at all?

I didn't really pay attention to the single-deck tables, as I never play them... & there may have been 1 $5 DD table...there was one table that was completely full & I couldn't see the placard, but every table that had 1 or more open seats was $10.

I think we will need to come to terms with $5 tables becoming a thing of the past. Inflation affects casinos just as any other business.

I’d rather keep the good rules and go to $10 then have $5 6:5 everywhere.

I agree the 5 dollar table is on the way out. It is to bad because it is a great way for young players to learn the game. In looking at all the data points would you all say the Tez is still the best place to place a 5 or 10 dollar game. Also is 3:2 making a bit of a comeback

I’d also second that moving the lowest mins to $10 makes sense if it meant saving 3:2 were possible. The casino has to make money, but it makes more sense for the player to play slightly higher minimum in an effort to preserve good rules. Assuming the $5 players are drinking, the casino is probably not making much of anything on those players, especially given that many buy ins at that level are likely less than $100. I remember back in the day when I started playing in earnest, roughly 10 years ago, a lot of folks at the $5 tables complaining about drink service being slow at ElCo. I used think, “gee I wonder why” lol

I'm ok with $10 being "the new" $5.

I am too. My base bet is higher than that. But my friends, not BJ players, are more likely to play with me at a $5 minimum.

Really, I suppose $10 has been the new $5 for quite some time now, if we’re talking about real blackjack rules. In fact, you could argue $10 is in the rear view mirror. ElCo is a relic. At the same time, on a weekend those $5 tables tend to be pretty packed so I don’t think $5 minimums are a losing proposition. If they can keep the tables full at $10 minimums, then I’m fine with that.

I just want ElCo to keep being ElCo. It’s less about the table minimums than the table rules, and the atmosphere.

The drink service was a bit slow, but once the waitress comes by I usually find that they come back promptly if you’re a reasonable tipper. Now they’ve gone with the iced beer coolers which means you can ask for one whenever you want. Well, at least if you’re drinking lowbrow beer in bottles like I usually am when I’m there.

My suspicion is the edge is higher on $5 tables because people are less likely to know proper strategy.

I popped into Fallsview Saturday around dinner time and saw :

    1 $5 6:5
    several $10 6:5
    several $15 6:5
    1 $25 6:5
    1 $15 3:2
    many $25 3:2

Guess which table was empty and which table was full????

I only had a little time before dinner so ended up donating a a few dollars in the DSTP. This was the first time I had seen $25 6:5 but, it could have been there before. The people playing $25 6:5 were lilterally 15 feet away from the $15 3:2 that was empty! I believe all the other rules are the same.

I honestly think that many people think 6:5 is a better game than 3:2 because they are really clueless what those numbers even mean. And, they don't even bother to find out what the rest of the rules are as far as dealer stand, DAS, etc.

I don't think they even bother to look.

I was passing through Excalibur on my way to Mandalay Bay a few weeks back and noticed one $15 table that paid 3:2 empty while $10 6:5 tables on either side were jammed up.

It's simply a lack of understanding. I'm not against someone sitting down at a 6:5 table if they're popping in for a fun, social round with friends and there aren't any other options at that price point... but to sit at a 6:5 table when there's a 3:2 table right next to it that's still in the same price range that's empty is just mind numbingly stupid.
