So I have ran into an issue, I have a trip this weekend for my gf and I's birthday. My license is set to expire on Sunday. I went to the DMV here about 3 weeks ago and was supposed to have my replacement mailed within 7-10 days. Long story short is there was a system glitch that caused my replacement to not be mailed out. I just got the answer from them on Tuesday and they said they mailed it that day. Now I am hoping that I get the replacement today. However if that does not happen, and I have my paper temporary ID along with my original laminated one with a hole punch, am I going to run into any issues at bars/gambling etc.?

Vegas usually only checks ID's at the tables if you look young or cage when you cash in a lot...I dont see why the temp one wont work but the one with the hole punch is useless...down here, Harrahs NOLA checks IDs to enter the casino, my cousin lost hers but had he old one with the hole punched in it. they refused her entry because it was expired

Probably not, unless you're really young looking.

I dropped my drivers license in the MHT airport on the way to Vegas for a 2 week trip, before I had gone through security. I high-tailed it home just in time to rebook my flight for later in the day, then go to the RMV as soon as it opened, order a replacement and get a paper temporary, then back to the airport.

The temporary DL had my picture on it, but it also said NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION in big red letters in a couple of places.

But I had no problem using it to get on my flight, access my credit line in Vegas, or anything else while I was there. You basically have to show ID anytime you use your players card, except in a machine, so that's a lot of instances.

When I fly, I take my passport as a backup photo ID.

They won't accept an expired license.
    Do you have a passport?

No passport unfortunately. I am turning 32 so not that young, but not that old either. I honestly can't remember on my last few trips this past year if I was ID'd that much, but that is a side effect of the booze

I'm 28 and don't get ID'd that much. Except at clubs, but that's their policy. You could look 90 and they'll still ID you.

You can always get an emergency passport card, costs a lot but you can get it within a few days.

Don't blame them for not accepting an expired drivers license, even with temporary documentation. It's their job on the line, how they put food on the table for their kids...and you're a total unknown, a stranger. There's no way I'd accept it.

I’m 70 and have to show ID frequently. It’s a law.

Either that or they are fucking with me.

Whatever, just show the fucking thing and move along.

Do you really?? Last trip was when I realized how little I get ID'd versus when I was around 25.
Lol. I haven't seen many people get offended or refuse to show an ID in Vegas. I agree, show it, and continue on your way lol.

I'm waiting for the day when some 20 year old prankster does the entire make-up and facemask thing to gamble in Vegas and then post it on YouTube.

I'm up there in age, so it was ridiculous that there was someone at Fat Tuesday's asking EVERYONE for proof of age to get a drink a couple years ago.

At Fenway they don't care if you're older than Moses. If you want a beer, show the ID...at least for the first one

Yes, I too, realized that at Fenway, along with the fact that there were no beer vendors in the stands.

When they stop asking is when you have to worry.

It doesn't matter how often one doesn't get carded. What matters is when you do and how can/does an establishment react to a temporary ID, because the one with a hole in it isn't valid ID and I guess the same can be said for the paper one for anything other than driving. Probably too late now to go to the DMV.

With my most recent passport renewal I shelled out the insignificant extra amount for an ID card, too. Won't get me on an international flight but it works going over the border to Canada (and Mexico) and it is Real ID compliant.

    Good luck.

Why do you not have a passport in your 30s? Get with it, man!

Really? Way more people have NEVER left the country than those that have. Rather common. Dept of State says about 41% have one.

As to an ID expiring. I have yet to figure out how an ID can expire - It is still YOU. I get saying you can no longer drive, but the ID is still YOU.

I stand by my comment. :poke: I see it as one small badge of being an adult. (Is this snooty? Probably. :D) Proactively getting a passport will ensure you can easily be prepared to travel if you every want or need to go abroad on short notice.

There is also a lot of value in having a second form of valid, government-issued ID. For example, it may come in handy when you put off renewing your drivers license until the last possible moment and realize you may need it when you are getting ready to fly to Vegas.
