    My Trip Report

Note: This is Part 1 of 2. I hope to get Part 2 up 24 to 48 hours later. Location changes and key events will be bolded.

Prelude: Tring Tries to Ruin a Cause for Celebration...

M has been in-between jobs for a couple of months, but that ended this week as she got a position at a children's hospital! She has been a nurse for adults for about ten years, but she has always wanted to work in pediatrics since she graduated from college. But since there was a MONTH delay between her job offer and when she began, we decided to run to Vegas again on the ~cheap before she started!

We kept an eye on flights and pulled the actual trigger on my birthday. Since we were considering flying Spirit and Frontier, we actually went to the airport to buy the tickets to save $19 per leg more! So flights...check. We weren't worried about the hotel much because, we figured we would default to either myVegas rooms or the Wynn app. Missed a good price on a car, so no car this time, blah.

About a week before departure, I catch a cold. Shit. That weekend we were going to both go out of town to visit family and friends, but to try to make sure that she didn't catch my shit, I sent her off without me. She was busy, I was being lazy recovering, and I had an internal debate with myself on how I wanted to split the hotel room. All four nights at the Signature, or two nights at the Signature followed by two nights at the Wynn? Well, I put it off, and off, and off, and really don't look into booking it after she returned Sunday night. Well, yeah, for the first time ever for us, an eligible myVegas night became ineligible for us because they sold out of the base room. Monday night was no longer available at Signature. FUCK!!! Let the scrambling, arguing, and debating begin. Well, we finally decide to avoid a bunch of extra moving by paying for a West Wing King out of pocket (mistake...see Day 1), and the other 3 nights at the Signature. After all that stupidity that was my fault, we were ready to go to bed at about 2:30am for a 9am flight. I was too wired and didn't go to bed until at least 3:30am.

Day 1: Mon. 4/1/19 The Over/Under for Room Moves Is Set at 2.5

Well, I definitely get up on the wrong side of the bed because I was an idiot. I was still kicking myself over being so dumb, and then, I make this random question asking where my “Goofy Watch” was. Yeah, who knows. And I still don't know. Shit, so now I'm even more pissed at myself. It's probably floating around this mess somewhere, I hope.

M's dad takes us to the airport, M gets a message about a delay, and on the way M's mom calls about SWA delays. I look on the web and see that it affected other airlines too. Oh crap. I start to worry because if a Spirit flight gets canceled, good luck to ya! Fortunately, our Spirit flight was barely delayed, and we boarded on time. But soon after we get on the plane, a woman ends up fainting. Paramedics get called. We couldn't exactly tell, but it looked to be anxiety related. But that was enough to delay our flight about 40 minutes. Doh!

Once up in the air, the flight was pretty standard. Regular seats weren't horrid at least. The delay of course helped us miss the WAX. So we decided to try Uber for the first time. Pickup was a clusterfuck, and my phone signal was struggling. The driver had to call twice to inform us he was there. I also got stuck with a $1.60 wait time charge...grrr After that it was fine though.

    Now we get here:

We first contact @jpw711's right-hand bellman who kindly helped procure some used intertubes for us. Very nice guy and said if we needed anything else just to text him. Since they were deflated though, he didn't know what was written on them to ID them. One of them had “Get The Strap” written on it, which mainly became a running joke for the rest of the week. Go to check-in. Large line for a Monday that takes maybe 15 minutes. Get a complete newb to check us in. We debated on where in the West Wing we wanted to stay. We wanted to be sorta close to the elevator. So the check-in agent picks up on this, and we are now near the West Wing elevators, which is fine if we were planning to walk the Strip that day. But in reality, we weren't planning that.

So now M is just totally frustrated and pissed as we walk to the room, and we decide, screw it, we are going to upgrade to a Grand room since its only a $13 difference online. Get into the “in-house” line that's even worse than the initial check-in line. The guy says the upgrade is $20. M is having none of that. She shows the price difference on her phone, and she wants to pay not a penny more. It needs manager approval, but it gets done. We ask for no adjoining door and not too far down the hall.

Step in, see an adjoining door, and the room smells like smoke trying to be covered up with cleaner. NOPE. So we immediately turn around, wait in line again, and this time, the employee actually sounds like he gives a fuck. Good thing because M was very hangry. He repeatedly says, this will be the last time you come down here, and that he was going to find the right room for us. He talks to his manager and gets us a complimentary Strip view upgrade. He was right; this last room didn't have any of our pet peeves and a dead center strip view.

To handle the “hangry”, we hit up “The Original Chicken Tender”, and it really hit the spot.

To further improve M's mood, we hit the MGM Pool for a bit. It was great for a Monday, not a ton of people and the pace of the lazy river was much quicker than normal, which I preferred.

This is the tower we were moving to tomorrow.

After the lazy river, we prep to go downtown to play off the Spirit match play at the D and to meet @Scott Blair. Get back to the room. NOW it smells like weed thanks to the open vent in the bathroom. LMAO. It wasn't horrible, so we were gonna stick it out, but we wanted to inform the front desk to say that it wasn't us. They also sent up a housekeeper with deodorizing spray. We quickly hit up Whiskey Down for the first of many of these during the trip. Big Dog's Peace Love and Hoppiness Pale Ale (6%; 4.25 sips).

Me next to the “kitty wall” at Level Up...lol

Then work our way to the SDX to go downtown.

We take the SDX in lieu of the WAX for flexibility. M wanted to check out the North Outlet Mall for a bit instead while I got off downtown. One problem though. The stores she mostly wanted to visit either didn't exist or closed at 8pm instead of 9pm. So she mostly just walked in and out. And unfortunately while waiting for the return bus, a drunk guy was hanging around the bus stop rambling to her.

So while M was striking out at the mall, I began to catch up with Scott Blair and chatted about various forum and VP dork-like topics. Lol Had a mediocre 805 Blonde (4.7%; 3.75 sips) and a Stone IPA (6.9%; 3.75 sips) while talking. Enjoyed talking to Scott, and was glad to see him have a good run. :) M rejoins us for a bit and later tries to get on the Sigma Derby but it's packed. :( I also struck out at the D again as I'm quadless lifetime at the D over a small sample. But we start to get hungry again, so we decide we should play off our match plays, and then go to 777 Brewpub for dinner to help burn our Ruby-haired stepchild points.

As for the $25 match plays, I go 2 for 2 with a blackjack! But M lost both of hers. One with a 22, but we didn't think to redeem that ACG push 22 coupon. But it probably wouldn't have mattered since we only bought in for $50 anyway. Food at 777 was decent, but nothing to cry home about. I think they gave M a prime rib sandwich instead of a Philly on accident. She switched it for a hot dog instead.

You can still get a shrimp cocktail for 99 cents, just like 1976!!!

Hit up MSS to play a bit of Treasure Chest and some Bonus DSTP, but nothing too exciting other than this tease.

Pick up our pictures at Binion's and then run off to QQQQ before the last SDX leaves. Tried the Hardway IPA (6.9%; 3.75 sips), definitely can't drink it fast. Quite piney.

M's root beer was better (N/A; 4.25 sips)

Here's something I never seen before:

And never seen this at QQQQ either. 5S-Ks is over $70! I tried my best...but alas, no.

Unfortunately we thought time was ticking away, so no time for “6/9 Jacks or Better”.

Apparently I was wrong because there was an SDX after the midnight laser show that focused on Tiesto. I'm a fan of his take on Samuel Barber's “Adagio for Strings”.

Get back on the bus to get close to home base.

    Walk back to MGM

M was tuckered out. But of course I wanted to keep going...lol

Had a few more of these. That's Alex in the background. He took very good care of me at the bar.

    Back to Back Hands

    And finally the first quad!!!

    Damn Pity Flush at 2am.

Unfortunately, no highlights after that (including quick quads) until crashing for bed at 330a.

    Day 1:

    The D +$92.50 (includes $50 successful MP)
    MSS +$5.15
    QQQQ -$20
    MGM Grand -$3.90

    Day 1 Total: +$73.75
    Trip Total: +$73.75

Day 2: Tues. 4/2/19 Another Annoying Move. Is M a Curse for Me at M Resort?

I am off to an unsurprising slow start today, and we also have to move to MGM Signature because I was a booking dumbass. Check out of MGM and haul our stuff at the Signature. We get to Tower 1 after this annoying ass walk.

Of course we get a shit front desk agent AGAIN. He clearly repeats multiple times that there are no rooms ready, and we will have to pay $10 if we want to get a room right now. This is fine to wait by itself, but he wants to give us a shit low floor as well. Nope. If we are going to wait until the official checkin of 4pm like he said we might have to several times, we would want a ~decent floor. He kept trying to give us floors 3 and 7, and we keep saying no. He also said that every room has “Adjoining doors”, so our hearts sank. And at one point we were like fuck it, “we'll come back and start the whole check-in procress later.” Soon after he magically finds a room on the 18th floor that will eventually be open. See? It wasn't that hard. Asshole.

So we go to the bell desk and deal with Will the bellman. At first, he does mention that we do need to deflate our intertubes a bit so that he can store them. No big deal. But while we deflated them, we voiced our general frustrations to start with both rooms and how checkin was very annoying. He was kind enough to listen and apologize and had an upbeat demeanor. Also he assured us the rooms do not have “adjoining doors” in the sense we were worried about. There is a shared entry way between the two rooms instead. Also for the general inconvenience, without us asking, he gave us a $50 food voucher to their cafe and $10 off to TopGolf! He wished that our luck would turn around and said if we needed anything to contact him. Great, friendly service!

Since we still had the bus pass active, we thought it would be a good idea to eat Cravings buffet at Mirage. We inform @Spivderman of this as he was graciously willing to drive me down to M Resort this afternoon. The buffet wasn't too bad, but I was battling a bit of a hangover, and I'm not super hungry for a lunch buffet after a night of drinking. M thought it was pretty good overall, which is what really matters.

They also have alcohol included too! But I wasn't in the mood to drink much. But I did have to try Sierra Nevada Brut IPA since it was new to me. I am not a fan of the Brut style though (6.2%; 3.5 sips).

Now it was getting near 2, and @Spivderman and his wife G were coming back from Downtown.

M really wasn't interested into going to M Resort, so @Spivderman was kind enough to drop her back off at MGM before we went. It was good timing too as our room was ready.

View of MGM Pool, and we could hear it a bit on the 18th, so the 3rd floor would have been horrible!

Now M likes the Signature a LOT more!!!

@Spivderman and G were very friendly and we had a bit of chat about Georgia since we used to live there for a couple of years. I definitely don't miss the traffic.

We get to M Resort, and they split off a bit for a late lunch. I work on a craft beer lunch at the 32 Degree Draft Bar instead...lol

Revision What What (9.1%; 3.75 sips) A strong, bitter Double IPA.

Modern Times Dreamspeaker (7.2%; 4.25 sips) Juicy citrus with a crisp finish.

M made it out to the pool even though it was very windy. They actually closed the Signature pool that day. View of our tower.

Longshot $5000 chance for me, but no dice.

Stillwater The Cloud (7%; 4.25 sips) Solid NE IPA, but had it before at another casino. Shit!!!

Finally broke my lifetime quad drought at M Resort!!! About time!

M actually treated herself to a drink too!

Get a sample of Golden Knights' player Ryan Reaves beer “Training Day” (5.75%; 3.75 sips).

Then I tried a beer at @ken2v's suggestion, St. Archer Hazy IPA. I wasn't thrilled with St. Archer IPA generally, but the hazy version...wow! Juicy and easy drinking (6.2%; 4.5 sips); best beer of the trip!!!

And this was a very lucky beer as well. While at the bar, there was another player playing Ultimate X at a higher level. So I was occasionally taking a stab at it after he moved on. And today it paid off handsomely with hitting not just one, but TWO premium quads!!! Biggest profit on one round of VP ever!!!

Wasn't sure what I wanted next, and decided to go with an old standby. Probably a mistake because it tasted a bit old too. Joseph James Citra Rye Pale Ale (5.4%; 3.75 sips). Gave Nick the bartender in the background a $20 thanks to the hit. He's helped me out several times, good guy.

Wrap up the session with another St. Archer Hazy IPA. Spivderman was a winner too that session, so we were definitely both happy! I love hits where I KNOW it will make me end the trip a winner! That's 3 of the last 5 trips now. Amazing!!!

M and I hit up Whiskey Down again to catch up. MGM charges this for a Fiji now...WTF?? Even the bartender I had Wednesday night thought that was ridiculous.

We had plans to eat with @vetsen that night. Another sharp VP mind, he happened to be in the area and graciously treated us to dinner since he had some Mlife comps to burn. We eventually decide on TAP sports bar since it was close and had a wide variety, and we had a nice meal that we totally forgot to take pics of since we were chatting away. Haha. I didn't forget to take a terrible pic of the beer I ordered though. I hope I wasn't as drunk as this pic looks @vetsen! Modern Times Black House (5.8%; 3.75 sips).

Then we head back to Hooters to run off some coupons and chat a bit more. Given the booking fiasco, we were considering Hooters for Monday. It's also where @vetsen was crashing for the night before moving to the Golden Nugget. So since we were curious, he was nice enough to give a quick tour of the room. Nothing fancy by any means, but looked clean and practical. It would do in a future pinch just fine! Eventually we went our separate ways, but not before another offer. Golden Nugget pool access! So yeah, we bumped into him again on Thursday. haha Thanks again for everything!

Go back down to Hooters and wrap things up. Unfortunately, M is not feeling the urge to get majorly drunk at the bar like she did on her birthday. But she did finally win a match play! I was also up $15, but forgot to cash the ticket out before leaving. Shit!!!

Get back to MGM, and M wants to use that whirlpool tub. Me? I have visions of more quads in my head. I also took care of Alex with a good tip from my big win today. But unfortunately, this is the best I could do in the VP department.

Somehow I got a lot of middling winners though as my records show only a -$27.50 loser at MGM for that session, which is good for no quad that night. Bedtime 4am...somehow.

    Day 2 Results:

    M Resort +$986.25
    Hooters +$15
    MGM Grand -$40

    Day 2 Total: +$961.25

    Trip Total: +$1,035

Day 3: Wed. 4/3/19 The Ellis Island/Monorail Conundrum

Another groggy start for you know who! Today we decided to hit up the Aria Buffet with our final myVegas reward. But first, a quick walk through of Eataly and this cool looking car.

I thought Eataly looked cool if you were looking for random Italian stuff. It was a total non-starter for M though, just like everything else in the “vintage, froo-froo, throw up” casino.

We move onto Aria and the Buffet. We didn't totally forget pics this time!

    My first plate.

A traditional ham and carrot salad with ranch dressing for M...lol

The tastiest part of the meal for me. I still am not a buffet person after drinking...lol

Afterward we decide to play at Aria for a bit.

    The dreaded “White Beard”.

I gave it a shot @sindustry, but no luck with this cute bartender either...

The DSTP on both 802 and 804 were ocupado, so I try 8/6 Boner Deluxe w/STP hoping to catch more lightning in a bottle like September. No beuno.

M tries one of @jpw711's favorites and gets a good hit.

I try the new Flintstones and get this terribly videoed bonus. I should have done landscape the entire time...go ahead, laugh at me.

M spun the wheel afterward at the suggestion of an employee. Took like two minutes to land on 2. lol

In our head, we were planning to buy a 1 Day monorail pass for the evening with a buy one get one pass from myVegas. One problem. The BOGO was sold out for the day. So this creates another debate. Do we really need a two day pass? M is a big NO as its a waste of money for the amount we'd use it. I didn't disagree, but considering how our plans were shaking out, I really wanted to get to the monorail tonight. And since I was up big, I was less concerned about buying a 2 Day pass. But as we went back and forth, we got a break. A family getting off the monorail saw we were considering buying a ticket and flat out just gave us theirs because they were done with it. Had 17 hours left on it. THANK YOU!!! So that made our choice simple now.

Headed on the monorail to SLS; no thanks to you myVegas!

Google Photos suggested this to be put in black and white. I like it. But fuck Google Photos and their privacy settings!

Belly up to the bar and try a new to me local brew Crafthaus Zitrone (4%; 3.75 sips) Very sour.

Bastards got rid of 7/5 Super Aces! Grrr. Best choice left below...

I still want to go to Westgate, but we are getting hungry and Ellis Island BBQ would close at 10pm. So we detour there first.

Playing for rootbeer (N/A; 4 sips) with Roulette! Single zero! It spun zero! Fuck!

Now the machine broke with my money in it! Double Fuck!

About 10 minutes later, I could get my money out with a slot attendant's help.

Still chasing after quarter deuces. :(

Can I get a Royal to go along with this great trip?? Nope.

I was about 26 hours too early for this game... :(

M's ribs. Could use a bit more sauce, but extra sauce was on the table.

Nice hit by M on Hexbreaker.

Now head back to the monorail for Westgate.

Get to Westgate. Unlike most casinos, monorail access is great here! 500 feet to the front door. The casino wasn't bad, unfortunately I think we forgot to take pics other than the obvious one. Casino was a bit smaller overall than I was expecting.

Finally belly up to the bar for a beer. Bartender super slow. We both get carded. Oh and this is my first hand ever there. On deuces wild...fml.

At least the wrong card came out first I guess... I want that $2968 Royal!!!

Finally get the beer. @ken2v was right about the St. Archer Hazy. But Apocalypse IPA was a malty mess out of this bar's tap at least. And I had it in the past too...dammit! (6.8%; 3.5 sips).

Eventually weasel our way to the sports book. I wasn't looking for a beer, but if I was, I couldn't get it there. They close at 11! And several people were still there. I would like to play there in the future though, it's NON-SMOKING!!!

Also found a new VP machine to me. From Aristocrat actually. Over 15 years old...

Took one more stab at the Deuces. No Ace Ten suited Royal this time.

Thank ya, Westgate. Thank ya very much.

    Get back to the Strip.

All the while, I had been talking with @Sheil813 and @Not at the table Carlos about meeting up. But by the time I got there, @Not at the table Carlos was out for the count. But Sheil was still up and doing well. I got a quick frozen strawberry daiquiri from the Bird Bar first and then seeked her out. She told me she was playing roulette near Bugsy's, but there were a few women playing near there. I should have realized she was the one that got really excited over her roulette win. Hahaha Eventually we cleared that up, and had a really fun chat. Sheil is a very fun and outgoing person, and her Vegas energy is strong.

M was a bit hungry still, so she grabbed something quick from here.

M then stepped into here for a bit and played enough to turn the light green. I unfortunately didn't get around to getting a Frozen Bailey's this trip. Next time!

She was playing max for awhile, but then started to bet 1 to slow the losing down...oops!!!

Eventually M joins Sheil and I at Bugsy's, and we all continue chatting away. I had enough time to squeeze in another beer too. Tenaya Creek Gypsy Fade (6%; 3.75 sips). Pretty run of the mill IPA, a bit malty.

This hit among others at Bugsy's helped recoup my loss at the Bird Bar.

Unfortunately, the monorail was stopping at 2, otherwise we could have hung out with Sheil even longer! But there might be a chance we meet up again. She plans to be in town over M's Birthday weekend! And you know where we usually are that weekend! Saw this on the way to the monorail in the giftshop. If I catch it on clearance in September, it's mine.

Back at MGM. M is once again tuckered out. I am not. See a pattern yet? LOL

    Night view from our room.

For me, more of these of course!

At first it was pretty busy and there was a drunk Scotsman named Scott, and he would occasionally chat with me and check on how I was doing at the machines. With him being drunk and having a heavy Scottish accent, it was a bit tough to understand him at times, even though we spoke the same language. Doh.

Unfortunately, my updates to a drunken Scott weren't good. I was running rough and eventually talked myself into going to the poorer paying 7/5 DDB w/DSTP...

    I needed this draw...but nope.

Three minutes later at 3:23, I got this much needed quad that was worth the same.

But there was another hour of garbage after that, and a hooker checked in on me. First asking if I was winning big, and then asked me for a cigarette, to which I bluntly responded, “I don't smoke”. And then eventually I say that I should go up to my girlfriend who is in bed waiting for me. I eventually stumble up to bed about 5am, I should have said hi to Craps Player apparently that night. Sigh. Sorry!!! And on the way out of the MGM, another proposition. I blurt out I'm going to bed with a tone of disinterest. I should have just went to bed with M when we got back to MGM to be honest, but Vegas right???

    Day 3:

    Aria -$34.45
    New York New York -$1
    SLS +$0.25
    Ellis Island +$0.75
    Westgate -$30
    Flamingo -$2
    MGM Grand -$76.50

    Day 3 Total: -$142.95

    Trip Total: +$892.05

Can I get it back over 4 digits? Check back for Part 2 soon!

Same here with the pics - thought it was my work computer blocking things at first.

Sorry everyone, Google Photos' cookies gave me the false impression these were public. Moved it all to flickr now. Hopefully you can see all the pics!

Great report, great food, great sights and pictures!! I never noticed the colors of NYNY seen in the picture from the escalators. The Downtown pics got me excited to be there tomorrow!

Thank you so much for the report and for fixing the pictures! I really wanted to see those 4 3s with a kicker and a multiplier! Seems like a great trip.

Great report so far! BTW, the Wax does stop at the North outlet mall.

Glad you were able to get the pool floats!

Can you tell me where those LIR machines are located in NYNY? My wife loves the things and was bummed last time when they disappeared from Bellagio.
    Thanks...
