I was hoping one of our resident photography buffs would chime in here with some information about that fish-eye lens shot of the room. I'm guessing it's about a 10x10 room, giving Golden Gate a challenge to the tiniest room award.

I'm OK with shoving it in my carry on and acting surprised when they say something.

When we flew Air Cubana last year....they don't have a weight restriction necessarily, and they have a very loose size restriction for luggage. It was like, a half a dozen non Cubans (us included) and the rest were Cuban Cubans or Canadian Cubans who were bringing air conditioners and tv's to the family back in Cuba. Unreal.

I would argue that Lucky Dragon was ACTUALLY new and more than 100 square feet of "vintage" ridiculousness. I personally think anyone willing to pay that for what they're offering deserves to be the first in the door. Good luck with that and good night! Holy Moly. Scary what the market might bear.

I hope they don't go the route of the Lucky Dragon though. I think that's a how not to story, not a how to story. I understand your point though.

I've stayed in that tower way back when. I had one room that was pretty small, but nowhere near as small as my Golden Gate room. The other was slightly larger.

I'm not sure a ghost would be willing to haunt that room. LOL And I like ghost. :)

There's still no link to book the rooms on Binion's own website. Way to go, marketing and IT...

But, when the Cromwell first posted rates, they were wanting over $300 per night and people were poo-pooing that conversion as well.

Yes, I had to dig deep for that. But, the point being, a "new" hotel will begin with a high price point.
Just look at the rates that Encore Boston Harbor is putting out there now.

I suspect a few folks here will give those rooms a go when Binions gets a better idea of what the market will bear.

I don't think it's THAT bad. When I think of Apache Hotel, this comes to mind.

I wouldn’t get too worked up about the first week/month prices being high. There are some (clearly no one on VMB) that will stay here because (a) they saw the Ghost Hunters shows and want to experience for themselves (b) travel agents will book those that don’t know any better and (c) early-adopters and those that want to be first in line for anything new.

Once the novelty wears off then the prices will stabilize to expected rates. I still look at it as a positive and increasing room capacity and options downtown will only help competition to drive rates down during non peak days/weeks

Not really sure I see any appeal in staying here at all, it is all novelty which won't drive business except from Vegas nerds and ghost hunters. From what I understand these are on a low floor which means they will be super loud which why most don't like staying at Golden Gate. Those wall A/C units are tacky as all heck. The prices now are obviously a joke but I don't even see why I would waste a precious hotel night in Vegas here even at $39. I can do that at El Cortez or pay $20 more and stay the D. Pretty much everywhere downtown will be better than this room.

I remember Tim and Michelle talking about this on Five Hundy by Midnight podcast a month or so back and had a good argument for how these rooms may not even make it. Eventually these room prices will drop to the lowest downtown of the casinos (maybe except the Pavilion or Vintage ElCo rooms). When you have Plaza, The D or Golden Gate showing nights at $29 on random weeknights before resort fee...this place will need to charge $39 minimum, And why would anyone really choose this room from the pictures compared to the D or Plaza or vice versa. They will not be able to show up in the price aggregators as low as the hotels with resort fee therefore people will think they are paying more for this grandma's house looking room.

Can they really pay for upkeep and staffing when they eventually will have to bottom out the price? I think not.

I think that's a solid maybe. If they just use the current staff at 4Q and have a kiosk check-in, I could see them staying open and essentially just becoming additional room inventory for 4Q.

Jeez, not even a cushioned chair to sit in? I've seen $19.95 roadside motel rooms nicer than that.
