Instead, the game will now be played in the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas -- a 12,000 seat facility owned and operated by Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones.
Going from Sam Boyd Stadium in Vegas to the Ford Center is a big drop in seating capacity, as well -- three times, in fact, from 36,000 to 12,000.
Fans who purchased tickets for the game in Vegas will receive full refunds. Tickets for the new championship game will go on sale on March 28.

Could they fill a 36000 seat arena?

I don't know why they did this instead of playing at the team with the best record's home stadium where you'd presumably get better ticket sales, but that's just me

Thank god. I was worried about the crowds causing issues with my upcoming trip. Now the lines will be shorter and table minimums will be reasonable.

I actually enjoyed a lot of the different rules they had compared to NFL, even some of the players deserve a chance in the NFL.

    Who saw this coming? ;)

The AAF throws in the towel with time on the clock! Do you think there is a finite amount of football that even the most ardent of fans can stomach? With college and the NFL, I think the American appetite for football from August to February is pretty much satisfied. It's like an 'All You Can Eat Buffet'. There comes a point when, having consumed, you are actually at the point of all you can eat. Why do these leagues continue to pop up from time to time? Is there no communication among execs? Doesn't anyone speak up in the staff meeting and say "Hey...you know, this has been tried x-number of times before. All failed. Got any other ideas?"

The AFL succeeded because there were so few NFL markets at the time, and there genuinely were cities that craved it. Now that this problem was solved (with the merger in 1970), I don't think there are any towns left that would accept anything other than an NFL expansion team, if that.

rich people want toys, to buy a nfl team it is over a billion dollars. As long as you can buy a smaller toy and maybe turn it into a bigger toy they will continue to try.

The USFL almost accomplished this. A team or two would have merged into the NFL if a jury didn’t award them $1 thinking the judge would amend the decision.

Or if Trump hadn't pressured them to move from the spring to the fall.

AAF just barely made the over by a few hours. If anyone needs a sports league duration handicapper, allow me to throw my hat into the ring.

I believe the move to fall was part of the owners plan to force a merge

Well, certainly Trump was a driving force behind that, as was Oldenburg.

The AFL also succeeded because back then the NFL hadn't yet grown to think of itself as Jesus crossed with Mick Jagger and producing an elixir offering eternal life.

I would offer a resounding "yes" to that second question because so much of the NFL smoke/mirrors isn't even aimed at or bringing in football "fans." Why is the Stupor Bowl a pinnacle sensation, for instance? I think it's a combo of those who think any football not called NFL being beneath them and the millions of eyes (and wallets opening to buy officially licensed crap) drawn by the spectacle of and around the NFL, not the actual game, so they ain't tuning into other forms of (notably pro) football.
