Every year the alumni from Talbots IT Marketing Department have a night out at Tropicana (cashless as of '19 season...credit or phone only) field...reunion and a ball game. In the interest of full disclosure, were it not for the reunion, I wouldn't see a single baseball game...ever. Honesty being the best policy.

    -the weather
-the suspense. I think postseason baseball offers a level of heartbreak unmatched in other sports

There are games basically every day which means, through access to MLB.TV, there is always something my kids can agree on for tv. Even the games that we miss and that didn't go well can be watched on condensed or highlight mode and we can still enjoy the high and or low lights of the game.

I live in San Diego and have been a Padres fan for years.

Opening day is always great, until I realize that the Padres for some odd reason pay hundreds of millions of dollars for a couple guys and then pay about 100k for their entire minor league pitching staff.

If you go to a game on opening day, 90% of the pitchers will be different by the next time you go to a game.

Yep, we did a lot of sports, but baseball was #1 growing up.

I used to love to watch it. I can't stand it anymore. The games are too long and too many strike outs, too many pitchers. Plus, some guys watch the ball fly
into the outfield instead of running.

Read once about Williams said he aimed for the red dot the seams made as the ball spun....
Stories like that are why I love the game so much. Games can be dull but history and stories are fascinating.

My favorite thing is hoping the Yankees win another World Series, and beat the Redsox in the ALCS along the way.

@Geogran makes another good point with his grandson.

Only sport I can watch amateurs play and truly enjoy. Love watching Tee Ball games.

Been a huge baseball fan all my life. Would have played through high school but was better on the track team. I am split on the disappearance of small ball. I love the strategy of lead off single or walk, steal a base, bunt them to 3rd and sac fly for a run. These days everyone is swinging for the fence. There is nothing more frustrating then when my team gets a lead off double and the next 2 guys strike out and then a pop up and he is stranded there on 2nd.

Small ball is alive and well with 11U teams. We even work on the safety and suicide squeeze!

    Preach it, brother!

Take Joey Gallo, for instance. He seems like a nice enough guy, and sure, he hit 40 home runs last year. And he hits some monster home runs too. BUT.........

There was a quick interview clip of him talking about his first home run in Little League. He said it was such a great feeling, that he decided he was going to swing for the home run every time. Well he sure does, and as a result, he strikes out a lot. Over 200 times, in 500 AB. That's a 40% strike out rate! And he is generally only about a .200 hitter.

The long ball is fun, but I'll take a player who hits .300, and 25 home runs any day.

That and the winter is leaving and I get to bitch about how nobody chokes up with two strikes, bunts against overshifts and gets paid tons of money.
