This was on Tue 3/19, towards the end of a four-night trip to Vegas with my wife & friends...non-poker details are in the Vegas Trip Report section.

I had played a lot of poker up to this point, with "played a lot of poker" equating to a whole lot of folding at the $1-2NL tables. I was so card dead and hadn't played any big pots. There were a couple hands where I successfully bluffed the river after either whiffing on a draw or others not showing any strength, but that was about it.

The first hand of note was when I raised to $15 over a couple limpers with K-T. The younger guy playing almost every hand called from the small blind, along with one of the limpers. I really, really liked the T-T-x flop and decided to slow play. We all checked. The turn brought a 7 and it was time to start getting some money into the pot, so I bet $15. I was overjoyed to get check-raised by the small blind to $40. The limper folded and I just called, hoping the wild man would hang himself on the river. Just as I had planned, he shoved his last $120 in the dark, just before the dealer put out an 8. I happily called & was shown....8-8. Sometimes the fish get there, I guess...but I had never been two-outered like that, with the other player blindly sticking it all in as if they knew it was coming lol.

Not too long after, I called an early position raise with Q-T of spades. I flopped a flush draw and called the raiser's $15 continuation bet. Somehow, I actually hit my flush on the turn! Again I just called the aggressor's $30 bet, assuming he had a big pair & would fire again on the river. Sure enough, he shoved it all in, a massive $170 overbet on the river, but only after a fourth spade hit. This guy had been playing very ABC...he had to have the A of spades. I showed him my hand before folding, and he obliged by showing pocket aces with a spade.

A couple hands later I lost yet again when 5 or 6 limped to me in the big blind with A-T offsuit and I decided to just check my option. I ended up check-calling three times on a T-6-5-5-8 board and got shown the ol' T-6 soooted by an early limper.

Finally a miserable looking middle aged guy raised in late position to $6 (lol), I 3-bet to $20 with A-K from the big blind, and he called. The flop was a beautiful A-9-5 rainbow, I bet another $20 and he quickly called. The turn paired the 9, I put him all in for his last $70, and he happily called with T-9. "I gotta get outta here" was all I could say, and left down $360 with very elevated blood pressure.

After a few hours of cooling off, I went back for more assumed punishment. As soon as I sat down, the guy to my right started mumbling to me about how painfully slow the guy in the 9 seat was playing. Sure enough, this guy went through the same process of looking at his cards, asking the dealer how much the bet was to him, re-looking at his cards, stacking his chips, and putting out an incorrect amount EVERY SINGLE TIME.

This guy was probably on his 16th glass of red wine and annoying as hell with his slow play and rambling trash talk, but was also hitting random two pairs & getting paid. He was up to about $400 or so when the dealer accidentally dealt my second card to me face-up, a 7. I kindly asked for another one since "a 7 was too low," but he gave me a 5 instead. Good news was my other card also happened to be a 5, so I open-raised to $10. A handful of people called, including the wino. The flop was a glorious K-5-x, so I checked knowing there had to be a K in someone else's hand. Drunk dude eventually bet $25 and I just called. The turn was a blank, I checked again, and after about two minutes of fumbling with his chips & cards, drunk dude bet $50. I minraised to $100 and got called. The river brought an A. I thought that might kill the action, but I only had about $120 left in my stack so I shrugged & stuck it in. He quickly called with K-T and I had finally won a big pot.

Wine guy announced that he was coming after me, and I told him "Well yeah, of course. That's why we're all here, right?" He went on with "You'll never see it coming, and then it'll be too late...I'm gonna tap your ass!" I couldn't do anything else but laugh my ass off. "You can do just about anything you want, but you're not tapping my ass!"

Not more than 10 minutes later, I was dealt 5-5 again, flopped another set when the same guy flopped top pair, and got his last $150. I was only up $40 for the day when all was said & done, but felt the full range of pleasure & pain...with no tapping of the ass.

Talk about a roller coaster of emotions! Good job coming back after being stuck a bit. I'll be staying at Bally's in a few weeks and hope to experience the positive side of your roller coaster while also avoiding an ass-tapping. Ha! :D

Gee I wonder if it was the same red wine guy I played with at Excal. He came to our table from a must move, had a ton of red chips only, a red face and a glass of red wine with another coming. He wasn't too annoying but I didn't play with him long. Talked about his sports bets, certainly no ass tapping was offered! So much red house wine, I was concerned about his poor liver. Anyway, sounds like you got the full experience. I tend to play with the same "types" so it's nice to have one's agility tested once in a while!

I don't think this was the same guy. He made no mention of sports bets...he could barely make a complete sentence!

I haven't tried poker at Bally's. Are the games similar to Flamingo (good late at night against drunks?)

Decent poker but terrible ambience and dealers aren't the best. I'd do Flamingo 10 out of 10 if given a choice.

I agree, Bally's poker room has zero atmosphere. I didn't have any problems with the dealers. But it is right on the casino floor, not hidden in the back corner in a separate room like some others...and it's a mid-strip casino so they're going to get a decent amount of "fun" players just walking by who decide they want to play some poker.

Flamingo smells better, like suntan lotion...so there's that lol.

I loved the old Bally's location and only played once in the current place and loathed it. The vibe I got was Dark and Dull.

I love poker but sometimes don't even bother to play as I cannot stand most of the players. I hate hearing hand stories from people sitting next to me where I have to pretend to be interested.

I just want to drink and play poker and I dont mind a little banter but drunks, slow players and constant stories turn me off big time. Oh and the constant riffling of chips annoys me. :soapbox:

I always thought the smell was more like too much carpet cleaner, I can’t take it.

I think the flamingo “room” feels cramped, tables packed in there.
