I'll be in the air to Vegas 30 days from today. I'm trying to take off the 10 pounds that I've gained before then so I just hit the gym for the first time in Lord knows how long.

I already have my yellow Samantha Brown luggage out and am going back and forth as to whether I can pack lightly but still super stylishly for 12 days in Vegas in my 21 inch and matching yellow doctor's bag or whether I should just cave and pack my yellow 25" given that my mother will be with me and she definitely has to take a larger suitcase that must be checked. (I bought my mother a matching orange set so for the past 3 years our yellow and orange luggage have been together. :))

I have watched too many hours of packing videos during the last month and now I'm trying to not be too obsessed with my less-than-30-days to go. These things though are just so much fun to watch. And they are informative too. (I also like the videos where someone travels around the world in First Class for X number of FF miles and a little cash, etc.)

Curious if there are other VMBers out there who are obsessed with packing videos as well. And for those of you who have no idea what I am talking about, Google "packing videos" and see how many hits pop up!

    Yes! Me!
    I'm obsessed with packing videos!

Those videos introduced me to capsule wardrobes, rolling and packing cubes!

I can (and have) packed for a 2 week trip using just an underseat bag!

    They are my secret crack.

I appreciate the obsession, but you are on vacation and should relax. for 12 days, no question -- take a checked bag.

I can’t speak for anyone else’s reasons, but one reason why I am not going to pack a checked bag is because I am going to accept getting “bumped” on my flight home from Vegas.

I heard you have a better chance if you don’t have checked bags.

If I was traveling with my Mom...... I would totally use larger luggage and just check the bag.

That does not sound like a bad strategy.

I did not do a video, we did a three week around the world, in First or Business with carryon only. Since then, we even take two week cruises with carryon only. Life is much easier when packing less stuff - which we usually do the night before or the morning of our flights.

What possibly could be new, are you packing something that's never been packed before?

I got sucked down that vortex a few weeks ago. Then I found myself looking for compression packing cubes and all kinds of gadgets suggested on Amazon. I then realized I don't travel enough to justify buying any more travel stuff, especially spending money I need to throw away in Vegas. I did, however, end up with a new portable power charger. My old was was heavy and this is light and has lightening and micro usb attached. Less cords. I figured I can use it around the house when a plug isn't close by.

I often chuckle when folks tell me they can pack more by using compression bags/cubes/etc.

Apparently, most of them failed physics. A 9" space can hold 9" of stuff. Not one more inch, or even a half inch more. 9" will always be 9". Yea... I know, it squeezes stuff down. So does my hand! LOL!

And by the way, those bags take up room. LOL LOL
