    My Trip Report

Just got back from another one night stay Friday at Caesars Atlantic City, going to write a brief recap below:

Traffic in DC sucks even at 1pm so it took over 4 hours to get there but I arrived at 5 and apparently, centurion tower was sold out, as were all high floor rooms, rooms with views, and anything that resembled the something other than the absolute most basic room so I got a room at the resort tower with Windows frosted out so no view, literally lol.

My first time ever experiencing this but I came to AC to gamble so whatever.

Ran down the road to get a deucer Miller Lite, told the young cashier girl I'm not a degenerate, then jogged back to Caesars with a beer in hand and a few looks from passers by on Pacific Ave lol

Got inside, decided to hit the gym, then decided not to, and went to Gordon Ramsay's place where they have a great fried chicken sandwich for $16. Had that, a 25 oz or so beer, went back to the room and grabbed that deuces which was sitting on ice (keeping it classy), the went back down to the casino floor.

Being mid March and it being relatively cool out, the casino floor seemed only moderately busy.

I sat down at a $25 BJ table with good rules but an even more fun select crew of folks. Played around $25-50 most of the night bit chatted with the pit boss, who saw me being the only one tipping, and generously upped the rating to $60 after asking what I wanted to be rated at ( I probably could have got it higher but whatever, I was having fun). Ended up playing 3.5 hours at $60 per hand which may slightly hurt my offers but this table was nuts. I also had probably 7-10 drinks in a bit over three hours which I'm happy with as far as service goes. Here was the characters I played with the entire time at the table:

A couple who sat at opposite sides of the table, locals I think, who were extremely animated yet fun. They had apparently been playing since 3 that afternoon (I played from 8-1130) and we're still there when I left. The entire night there was this back and forth with the pit with them asking for a room, the pit actually working on getting them one, and what seemed to be a host periodically coming over. It was strange but I was impressed with that level of customer service which would have never happened on the strip for two $25 level players.

The guy on my left was an older Seven stars player who looked identical to Alan Alda, a bit quiet but nice. Then there was this (for a lack of a better term) fat version of Mr. Rogers who didn't talk, had the large stack, and lost eventually.

End of the night I bought in for $300 and left with $301. For a $1 win lol. The pit got me a $40 food comp for the next morning, another thing I don't see happen in Vegas where it's usually "charge to your room and they'll take it off play permitting". Normally I don't mind that in Vegas but in AC I don't have a host and the hosts on duty in AC usually suck so this was very appreciated. I wrote the pit boss Steve a nice comment after.

Ended up hitting Cafe Roma with the food comp as it's open at 7am whereas the buffet doesn't open until noon on Saturdays. It was also only $20 for their Buffett so the cashier gave me a bunch of pastries in a to go box lol so I could use the entire $40 comp. another thing I like about AC service, they seem to usually go that extra mile at least IMO. She got a nice tip.

Then drove back, visits my in laws for a bit as they're halfway between AC and my house in NOVA, then sat in awful DC area traffic for hours.

Ultimately, now that I'm married I hit AC twice a year and Vegas twice. I love both but I will say I would rather drive 4 hours to AC each way than 15 minutes to MGM national harbor any day. In addition to MD law prohibiting comped drinks, I've found the Maryland casinos to be unilaterally shit in terms of comps, dealer attitudes and staff.

I've also noticed Atlantic city gets a hard time on this forum which I find strange, I've always had a great time there. Now, it's not Vegas but if you're looking to gamble and have your money go a long way, it absolutely serves it's purpose. I also enjoy the food there, especially White House subs. Gambling rules at least for table games are excellent, I rarely see that 6:5 bullshit and pit staff generally seem willing to go out of their way if you're polite to staff, tip, and just aren't a ******. Now, it's definitely Jersey as far as the people but I like of like the authenticity of folks there (my wife is from there so I'm also biased lol).

Hopefully I'll be back later this year but with Vegas in July, it may be after. Thanks for reading!

LB Agree with you on your observations on AC and the people that frequent it. It may have its imperfections but to me that is part of its uniqueness and appeal. The beach in the summer makes it all the more enjoyable

This is how I felt about driving to Mohegan sun and Foxwoods versus going to ac. I get way more in ac and would rather the extra one hour drive. Regarding national harbor, I hate that joint. I'll take my money elsewhere, thank you very much. Also, on your experience on this trip, this is why I about borgata. I feel like I get much better service (with much better, down to earth crowds) at the CET casinos. I like oceans and hard Rock a lot too. But hard Rock doesn't have good food in my opinion.

Thx for reading guys. I gamble less now but want to ensure that when I do, I feel like I'm maximizing my offers and fun. Locals don't do it for me anymore and I still feel like AC is a vacation. If I can keep getting Friday nights comped even during summer, I'll absolutely pay the $30 in tolls and $50 in gas to come back, it's amazing what good customer service does as far as building loyalty goes. I haven't gone in years to any of the big three (Horseshoe Baltimore, MGMNH, Live) nor do I plan to but I doubt the MD casinos change.

I enjoyed your report. You have me looking forward to my junket to Harrah's AC later this week :wiggle: There are lots of things to like about AC, and a few things not to like, but lately the good has outweighed the bad for me. One of the best times we ever had was at the AC Air Show a few years ago. Even my non-gambling husband went along, and had a blast.

Glad you enjoyed and I hope you have a great time! It should be warmer end of the week so fingers crossed. I have noticed my last few trips that there seems to be more and more people in AC, and the gaming revenues seem to validate that. Lot of great people up there so I hope it continues to rebound!

Thanks Nancy! I do love AC, always had an affinity for it since I began going around 5 years ago. I haven't really had better customer service most anywhere I've ever been to. Nothing beats AC but I still get excited seeing the AC skyline approach and all these limos randomly on the expressway- were all going to the same place haha.

Looking forward to your TR at Harrah's!

Sounds like you had a really good time. I always love an AC report and wish I could make it up there more often.

I go 4-6 times a year, minimum, unless a Vegas trip is on the horizon. And like you, I still get amped as soon as I see the Marina properties off to the left, and especially the skyline. You also said earlier about it being a vacation. I 100% agree with that. The locals are 30 minutes away. At least for me, being an hour and fifteen out from AC is great, and you kill multiple birds with one stone playing at a destination casino. I like getting my money's worth. Plus, variety never hurt anyone.

Thanks guys and totally agree! I think those who hate on AC have either never gone (many times the case of folks rendering an odious opinion) or are expecting Vegas. I really do think that in due course Atlantic City will continue it's resurgence, especially with the economy doing better. While it will never be Vegas, I think the spring and summer months in AC are a ton of fun and as you've said above, it really does bridge the gap.

I also look at it this way, I can get trashed and not have to worry about driving home, have a free hotel room so I get some sort of discernible comp, and the table games for BJ players are definitely better and available at lower limits. Also, the table side food comps generated by the pit are just something I haven't see in Vegas in at least 6-7 years whereas in AC, the pit staff takes notice of how you're treating the dealers and CWs. It's really amazing how few people tip but for those of us that do, it really is recognized. Plus, let's be honest, who doesn't like White House Subs? Lol

Nice report! Stories like this is why I make the drive down to Tunica sometimes too. Hopefully will later this week! Free drinks and better treatment of players are always pluses in my book!

@LB9, thanks for the write up, I always enjoy an Atlantic City trip report. I feel a majority of folks who have visited AC reported a positive experience and would return. Most negativity usually comes from folks who haven’t set foot on the island. I like being able to walk along the boardwalk to another casino to change things up. Plus, there are a lot of non-casino bars and restaurants that are steps away.

I gotta ask, what’s a ducer? Anything like a 24 oz. Tall Boy (can of beer)? :drunk:

Hey Hammie, yeah it's a 24 ounce beer lol. I normally get one whether in AC or Vegas to get those juices flowing before I start gambling haha. I hit a sketchy looking liquor store to grab one but it as $1.80 versus $8 in the casino store which seemed like a no brainer for me, especially since it was a five minute walk.

Streets of AC can be a bit intimidating I suppose but hell, saved six bucks lol

I don't gamble as heavy in AC but I sure as hell have a blast!

Thanks for getting me pumped up for my Wednesday junket!
I was down there last year for a 1 nighter and during a blizzard and got my ass handed to me! Snow & wind were so bad we didn't leave Caesars so didn't get to see much!
Before that it's been about 7 years since I made it down. I'm looking forward to seeing the changes since then.
I thought AC was kinda honkey-tonk back then....but you know what, I kinda like a little seedy/honkey-tonk! I bit like DT Vegas but with an ocean view. As long as someone isn't looking for a Vegas strip atmosphere it's fun.
One question if I can. What were rules for the BJ game you played? 6D or 8D? H17 or S17? Surrender?
Thx again for the read....and congrats on the big win! :)

I played a 8 deck I believe but it was hit on soft 17 at a $25 table, however, we were allowed to get a reshuffle 3-4 times over a few hours which I found great as that doesn't happen that often. I think the pit was really generous with us.

Surrender is a great rule but since I don't use it, I didn't ask if the table allowed it. I think NJ does allow it though depending on the table.

For what it's worth, I didn't see a single 6:5 table, nor have I at Caesars (Harrah's in AC has them unfortunately) which was refreshing. Drink service is very solid on the floor too, both on the left near the craps tables and the right where I played closer to the slot area.

Happy to answer any other questions ya may have and hope you have a great trip!
