Love both of these too! We always pop in for brunch at MSS on a weekend - lovely food.

I prefer the MSS over the Cal, but they are both good. I'm told the Cal rooms are recently renovated. The Cal used to have this good bar by the front, i think its still there? But over all the Cal feels crowded and cramped. MSS is a better lay out, love the big bar there and the ornate casino. Both have decent VP.

Side note, the Hawaiians don't seem to wander over to the MSS as much, im not sure why. Anyone know?

Drinks are served in plastic cups. Low class. I rarely last long playing there at boyd.

    LOL
I’m sure there’s a strip property that serves their drinks in nice glassware.

I don't know if I agree with that. More than once I've been the only non-Hawaiian at the craps table with everyone congratulating "uncle" to keep his roll going!

People recommending the MSS buffet made me think to mention that the Triple 7 has a good early breakfast menu available before the buffet opens at 7 am.

Many downtown patrons casino-hop due to the proximity of one casino to the next. Serving drinks in go-cups allows patrons to take their drinks with them to the next place as drinking from glass in Las Vegas is prohibited.

Unless you're taking more than 2x odds, what's the difference? If the table minimum is $5 or more, I definitely don't have the budget to go higher.

Just tell the CW that you want your drink in a proper glass, no plastic cups. I've never been denied when making this stipulation.

The thing not to overlook is when that hot roll comes along that you can increase your odds past 2x without having to increase your line bet.
When that hour long roll comes along I’d rather play a $5 pass line bet with $55 odds than a $20 pass line bet with $40 odds.
You’re risking $60 both ways but you get paid more for the higher odds bet.

It’s the same principle to me as 3:2 vs 6:5 BJ. Why give the house any extra advantage when I can walk next door and even the playing field just a bit more?

The #1 factor I like about downtown is I can change casinos so easy for better gaming conditions. It’s not a 2 mile walk to another property like it is on the strip. When I used to stay at MGM sometimes I never left there. 1 trip I remember not going outside for 3 days.

Last trip in November, I played a lot at the bar by the back door, the Holo Holo bar (I think). Good VP and great drink service. The barman was fun and lively...a good vibe there.

I stayed in a renovated East Tower room in November. Convenience of having the Garage/Valet right by the elevators and lobby was great. Room was clean, nice, and didn't hear any noise from Fremont. Heard a little construction noise from Circa though, starting about 7-8am. My only complaint about the room was the size of the bathroom. The vanity is in the main room while the toilet and tub/shower combo are in the bathroom. The swing radius of the bathroom door brought it about 2" from hitting the toilet. With the door closed, there was hardly any room to stand in the bathroom.

Nevertheless, I liked the Cal and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. Did most of my craps play at MSS due to the 2x odds tables at the Cal. The Sports Lounge seems nice too for what it is.

    So can someone answer this question please;
I stayed at the Cal once a few years ago and have been staying at MSS since. Spending a lot of time at the BHB it just seems closer to my room.
Do the elevators near Market Street Cafe and on the Mezzanine level go to the West Tower rooms?
When I stayed there I’m assuming I was in the East Tower being it was the elevators near the front desk.

The mezzanine elevators would be really convenient if they access rooms.

The bank of 3 elevators by the MSC and the escalators go up the west tower rooms. They are the only public elevators that go to the west tower rooms. (there is/are other elevators that go up but they are for housekeeping and staff).

The east tower elevators are the one by the buddha.

I play craps at MSS and (sometimes) Cal. Most of the time I just play single odds unless the table gets running. I've played the 20x odds at MSS a few times when the table was hot.

I like to play at the Cal so I can have the chance to become one of the golden arm winners.

The Cal escalators to the mezzanine, which leads to the MSS overpass, are often broken. That means if you have a room in the West Tower of the Call, expect crowded elevators at times.

East tower room have no such limitations

They just put them in not long ago! Going to take my first ride in March.
Are you sure you don't mean the old escalators?

I stayed there a few months ago and liked it. Room was very comfortable. I was assigned a room on a smoking floor even though I don't smoke, since I thought someone else might stay with me who wanted to visit a dispensary, and anyway it didn't smell bad at all.

I like the living room feel of the small sports book/ bar area. When i was there, they had domestic bottled beer for $3.

The downside of the Cal right now is that the Circa construction project makes it a little isolated and a bit more inconvenient to get to Fremont Street. You have to cross Main street to the MSS/Plaza side, or walk through Binions. This should not be a deal breaker.

I normally would cut through Binion's anyway.
