Until 1964, chicken wings were considered a waste product and discarded. Teresa Bellissimo, co-owner of the Anchor Bar in Buffalo, New York, had the idea to fry the wings and dip them in her husband Frank’s sauce recipe, thus inventing buffalo wing

A little known man named Augustus Post was key in early aviation circles. He flew balloons and gliders. In 1919 he convinced Raymond Orteig to offer $25,000 to the first aviator to fly from new York to Paris. Lindbergh won that $25,000 prize in 1927. Post was an early motorcar owner and had the first vehicle in NYC,. He forecast the coming of rockets and wrote about an interplanetary society much like NASA.

Leopards, cougars and lynxes often react to catnip similar to domestic cats. Some lions and tigers react as well, but many appear to be immune.

In the 19th century, it was considered cruel and unusual punishment to serve lobster to prisoners, as lobsters were basically the 1800s equivalent of rats.

I think you've suggested the answer to our rat problem: they're now a gourmet treat. Non-GMO. Free range. Low cholesterol (at least for the Giant African Rat). What more could one ask for?

LORAN was a precision radionavigation system, used mainly by ships and aircraft, which pre-dated GPS by about 50 years. It was active from the mid 1940s and was decommissioned in the early 2000s when GPS was proven to be accurate and reliable.

In 1890, all of the telephones in Stockholm, approximately 5500, were connected using a direct wire from each one to a 250-some foot tall tower at the Telephone Office in the center of the city. Although the telephone system was modernized to use underground wires, the tower remained in place, without wires, of course, until 1952.
