How about a thread regarding new development in Atlantic City?

We recently visited Bourre, a new Cajun Restaurant/Bar in the “Orange Loop” section of AC. The Orange Loop is basically three streets: Tennessee, New York, and St. James Place and named after the Orange monopoly cards. We just had sandwiches and drinks, but the food was great and prices were very reasonable. There is an outdoor area for the warm weather.

Just left AC....stayed at the nugget and made my way to ballys and borgata. Nugget was slow with not much going on. Ballys was a total show in itself. A cockroach walked by our feet on the craps table. There were homeless and all kinds of people everywhere and the dealers were very slow with an attitude because they deal with BS all day. I cant see that place staying around much longer. Now the borgata was a different ballgame like usual. The tables were packed...atmosphere was great...dealers and people were awesome. Played craps for 18 hours total in two days and came up a winner!

After my last trip Christmas week, I crossed Bally's off my list of casinos I will ever visit again. It's a borderline homeless shelter at this point. I went in the summer and it was just as bad, and gave it another chance in December and walked out twice. I had a comped room there and wound up dragging my stuff up to Hard Rock around 10PM to sleep there on another comped room. Even free is not worth it for that place any more.

I visited Bally’s and Caesars as well during the week between Christmas and New Years. Yes, it’s worn around the edges and they recently changed some tables to as low as $5, but I didn’t see anyone resembling a homeless person nor was I hit up for a donation. Maybe this recent marketing initiative ($5 tables, $15 breakfast buffet at Bucca, $3 beers, etc.) is having an unintended consequence. Bally’s and Caesars still have a bus program so it tends to draw an older and less affluent demographic. I played craps at Wild Wild West and some VP in the main gaming area. Unfortunately, Bally’s monthly “win” is at the bottom among the 8 other casinos.

The three CET properties in AC are offering a 60% dining discount at select restaurants next Sunday January 27th when paying with RC’s.

This is the third Sunday for the deal and we took them up on it two days ago at Gordon Ramsay’s Pub. Typical of almost every CET e-mail, it was sparse on details about how to use this offer, so I had to call Caesars a couple times to speak with someone familiar with the deal. I was told it was being offered at restaurants like Nero’s, Cafe Roma, Guy Fieri’s Chophouse and a few others. Our bill came to $68 and we ended up paying $28 in RC’s. The discount was applied to both food and beverages. I finally had the sticky toffee pudding and it was worth the hype.

Daryl (7* Insider) posted this on Twitter, and noted that Oshi and another place were closed on Sundays. Nonetheless, any info helps.

I like Caesar's a lot and Harrah's even more. I get comp'd any night I want in AC too. I hope to goodness things don't get worse.

Pretty accurate ranking, I would put Bally’s below Caesars and Hard Rock above Ocean Resort. I think the author was pretty harsh when it came to the dining options at Resorts though. They have a solid “coffee shop” in Breadsticks, Capriccio is a very good Italian Restaurant, Gallagher’s Burger Bar is also pretty good. The comments about Tropicana are pretty accurate, the place is enormous with many dining and bar options.

PS, CET offers the 60% dining discount when paying with with Rewards Credits on Monday February 4, 11, and 25th. Check Total Rewards for details.

Yea, I agree with the flip flop of Bally's and Caesar's. I also think that the author clearly missed some great dining options within the CET properties: McCormick, Martorano's, Bucca di Beppo, Morton's, Buddhakahn...also, the shops connecting to Caesar's add more to the casino. I've been to the trop and while it's sprawling, I don't think it's as good as HR...

I would also swap Caesars and Ballys as well as Ocean and Tropicana. I really like the rooms at Ocean and the dining is much improved as more places open up. I like the gaming at Ocean better than Trop and you can't beat the Ocean sports book in AC at least until the new Borgata spot opens.

Just read this article that AC is going to have their own Arena Football League team starting in May. This is good news for the town. They need more interesting things like this for people to do when they aren't gambling, since people can gamble anywhere these days. Give people a reason to choose AC over their local and they will go there instead.

Atlantic City Restaurant week is March 3-8, participating restaurants offer prefix lunch for $15.19 and dinner for $35.19. This features many local restaurants as well as casino restaurants.

Could someone rank the standard rooms at Caesars, Ballys and Harrahs for me (best possible tower, if that makes a difference)? Is there a big difference among the three?

There's a HUGE Difference! I would avoid Bally's and pick Harrah's any day of the week. I've stayed in all three and most room types in each. Here's how the rank within Harrah's:

    From worst to best:
    Marina
Waterfront - which are actually better than most rooms at Caesar's
    Bayview
Coastal (newly remodeled but they're a bit small compared to the Waterfront and Bayview rooms)
    Atrium suites

If you want to stay on the boardwalk then Caesars in the Centurion Tower. If you want the best rooms then Harrah's in the Bayview (my favorite) or Atrium Suite Tower. Atrium suites have a picture window into the hallway...not conducive for walking around the room nude. Yeah, there's a curtain; but does it really seal at the edges? I like the bathrooms in the Bayview Tower. Also, Harrah's has an amazing pool. It's a 3 story terrarium with you and a heated pool inside, hot tubs/bar all included.

Going up to AC next Friday in a comp at Caesars, had a quick question.

I have an offer that night for this slot tourney, even though I don't play slots. Any idea what these tourists encompass? If it's just playing I won't be interested but do these things also involve free food and/or drinks? If so I may call to add this offer.

    Thanks all!

Slot tourneys are usually just a 2 minute bang on the machine event. Sometimes you get more than one session and they take the average, sometimes not. Food? Drinks? I haven't seen that at a slot tournament in years and years.

I’ve done a couple of slot tourneys at the Hard Rock. They always have a small buffet and open bar for a 3-4 hour window even through you only play for one minute. The best I’ve seen at AC CET is a soda and a bag of chips.
