For the upcoming trip and the one last February my wife and I were going to Knights games, so part of it was location. Park also gave me a decent comp stay. To be honest, we don't give the casino much play as the blackjack rules are pretty bad there. We both like the remodel so far, but miss Diablos. Looking forward to seeing how much further things are along there on this trip. I've stayed all over the strip, and Park MGM isn't near the top of my list, but I still like it (I'm not too picky), and I am starting to really like the area near the arena. It just worked out well for the comps I received, and the location for events I was attending.

I only go to Vegas once a year and don't get great offers and don't feel the need to spend a ton on a room I'm barely going to be in. I always liked Monte Carlo for my solo trips for that reason... it was cheap but not a complete shit show, and centrally located so I could easily jump to the casinos I liked to gamble in. (Also loved The Pub, alas...)

This will be my first time since the renovations, so I'm looking forward to it.

Still probably won't spend a lot of time in the Park casino, though.

I stayed at Park MGM last week for 4 nights on a comp. Fortunately I have been paying attention to these threads and wasn't wandering around looking for the Platinum check-in desk. I checked in around 5:00pm on a Monday, during the week that has the World of Concrete, SHOT, Surfaces, and AVN shows - there were many kiosks available to me. Check in was quick and easy - scanned my confirmation code...it found my res...asked for proof of identity (drivers license, passport)...I placed it in the little flatbed scanner and all was good. It asks how many room keys you want and prints them out, then spits out a receipt with your room number on it. There were several employees around if i did need assistance.

I'm 49 years old and comfortable with technology so this really wasn't an issue...did I stare at the console for 5 seconds to determine where to put my ID...yes. Was it like the cockpit of a 777 where I was overwhelmed by what goes where?!?! No.

Could my 80 year old parents have done it? Absolutely not. But then again I don't think they'd know what to do in a new vehicle, either. I do still prefer the human interaction of the check-in desk, though...one of the only perks of Platinum is getting a special line at check-in. I'd complain about not getting my "Platinum Experience" letter this way but I don't get that from the humans at check in either. One more trip to the Mirage Secret Gardens and I get a dolphin named after me...

    Great info, thanks!

I'm thinking about booking a night at Park for my upcoming trip to milk some resort credits - dinner at Bavette's :feedme: - but I don't want to spend half the evening checking in. Are others also finding it quick and easy(ish) to check in at Park MGM? Or should I choose MGM and eat at Craft or L'Atelier?

I'm 44, far from a techie, but reasonably intelligent and usually not intimidated by this type of stuff.

No need to make it a bigger deal than it actually is. If you arrive in the evening, it won’t be too busy to begin with. Just walk up and ask one of the employees pacing around (there are several walking around waiting to help). Shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. I do know that they had some issues with their ID reader but they’ve recently fixed the issues (according to what a man at the VIP desk said.)

I can see this kiosk checkin thing really hurting them. It’s no wonder there comping rooms to be customers like me who has t been in Vegas for a few years .

It will be interesting to see what room they put me in.

This reminds me of a meme my buddy posted a few days ago...

It’s not my job to learn a brand new computer system and figure it out for myself, especially when I’m on vacation.

Furthermore, forcing guests to use these check-in kiosks assumes that the desk agents only exist to check guests in. What if I have a question about something that requires human intelligence to answer, like where the pool is, or what restaurant is a good one to try? That’s really poor service, and it’s not something I’ll support by using these technologies.

I will never, ever use one of these kiosks myself... and if I’m ever prompted to use one, the answer is “I’m dyslexic and I have trouble with the screen”.

LoL kiosks are so impersonal. Anyways if I take this free room I will be faced with a computer.

I’m assuming there is a contact if something is wrong with my room ( could be many different issues that arise)

The only reason they do this has nothing to do with the customer. It’s the bottom line and profits :=)

    It is what is. Thanks

When faced with the opportunity to do self check in/out or talk to a human, be it at the airport or CVS or the grocery store, I choose the self check 100% of the time.

I get it from a Vegas standpoint where people may want to request an upgrade or slip the desk a 20... but really, this is no big deal.

I personally don’t care for the machines I enjoy the human interaction but it doesn’t bother either. The two trips I’ve taken this past summer. I had a hard time with the kiosk first it didn’t want to take my id and froze then the second it just wasn’t going. I’m in my 20’s and tech savvy so I can see how people don’t like this with an older age

I have very little patience for people who fight it. The world is heading this way. 10 years from now, this will be the norm in grocery stores, gas stations, hotels, and fast-food restaurants. Gotta start sometime, so I am also one who embraces it. Until the technology is vastly improved, there will always be a live body to help so you're never really without help.

The thing is there were so many people that needed help but only two workers to attend to us all.

I understand the need to adapt to changing times/technology, but I have very little patience for technology that is prematurely installed without the business being sure that it works properly. Bug detection should happen before rolling out something to the general public.

I don’t want it to sound lazy but as soon as I land. I’m on vacation I don’t want to have to do anything. I know the machines should make it go quick but. I want someone doing this for me and handling all my stuff.

10 years from now? It's already the norm in many of the places you named.

Normal to see, yes. But not a majority.

Most Wal-Marts and grocery stores in my neck of the woods have about 1/3 automated lines to 2/3 peoplemated lines.

Do these machines require you to insert your drivers license? I haven't used the Park MGM kiosk, but I tried using a check-in kiosk at a CET property about a year ago (I think this was the one time I stayed at Rio), and the machine would only work if I inserted the license, and it was the type of machine that "sucks it in" and keeps it, like many ATMs, until the end of the transaction where it will spit it back at you. Call me crazy, but I have a real problem with that. I can't get on an airplane to go home without that license (well, not without a LOT of hassle), so I don't trust that machine not to break down or get jammed, and cause me a big pain in the butt. I don't necessarily mind swiping the mag strip, or scanning the barcode. But I did not want to use a machine where the card had to leave my hand. Maybe a little irrationally paranoid, but it just seems like bad design.

Yes you need to insert your id to be scanned but the damn scanner always messes up.

The scanner is similar to what they use at the airport to scan your ID. It doesn't "suck it in" like an ATM card.

I actually found the entire check in procedure to be incredibly simple. The easiest hotel check-in indeed every had, really.

I pre checked on the app when I boarded my flight. Got the notification that my room was ready when I landed. Went to the kiosk and printed my cards. The QR scanner was clearly labele. the ID scanner didn't scan at first but that's only because my dumb ass didn't have the right page in my passport open. Cards print below (also clearly labeled) and away we go. No waiting in line, and the entire process took maybe 2-3 minutes.

Maybe if you fully check in and don't use the app it's harder, I dunno. But my experience was so simple my 4 year old could have figured it out.
