One thing I can say for myself, I do a lot better when I'm solo. It doesn't matter if I'm in Vegas, Atlantic City, Poconos, or any other gaming destination.

When my dear bf comes with me, I feel like I need to hurry up and I end up wagering, much more erratically than I normally do. Does this happen to anyone else?

He is not a fan of gaming so that is kind of a downer, if he buys into a BJ game with a hundred, as soon as he has a few poor hands, he "is done " , then I feel like I need to try to make my money fast so he's not bored etc.

I hate to say it, but usually, his coming with me isn't my favorite thing but let's be real, I can't exactly tell him that, lol.

I gamble the same regardless of who's with me.
Perhaps you should tell him you need some gambling time and give him the choice to either 1) stay with you and gamble or watch, or 2) find his own entertainment, perhaps a house band or a sports game on tv, to keep him busy during this period. That would take the pressure off of you. Even if you tell him you just want 2 hours out of the day for gambling (you're in Vegas for C-sake!) and let him pick the 2 hour time period that works best for him.

I think the people around you can certainly affect how you gamble. Even just the table's mood. When I am on a roll but it is a quiet table I don't elevate my bets as aggressively. Yes I know that with BJ I should be strictly formula but the reality is a pumped table raises the energy and the stakes. Guess that is why they give out the booze.

Why not? If he doesn't like gaming, maybe he doesn't like Vegas all that much. Better to float the idea of separate vacations now, than fight about them later.

    +1
If I hit my win / loss limit, I have no problem putting down the dice and either watching or making arrangements to meet somewhere later.

no. if I cant get some space, I just wait till later to gamble.
when I go to the local casino, I will not hesitate to tell my friends to get lost -- in the nicest way that I can. I cant stand the hovering.
the exception would be if we are going to sit down at a table game together.
otherwise, I will tell them to text me when they are ready to go or ready to eat or meet at the bar or such.
I have one friend that likes to grab an empty chair and park her ass next to me at the slot machine. SERIOUSLY???
oh the stories I could tell of going to the casino with friends. I could go on with this rant forever.... I will stop now.

No, but there are only four people that are family and/or friends that I would play near; my brother champster1, my SIL, DBueler and CLV. Anyone else, even a close friend, would probably freak about how much and how fast I'm playing and that would make me feel uncomfortable so I've found a way to let them know they can feel free to spend a few hours doing X while I play :), but with those four people, it's not an issue. My mother and I are taking I think now our 5th or 6th trip together to Vegas come April and she knows I play a lot more than she does (and she knows 11 comped nights at Encore aren't really "free"), especially when I tell her about my hand pays, but one 10-play quarter UX hand ($25) could last my mother a few minutes on a quarter 5 play WOF machine. It wouldn't be good for her health if she saw my coin in for even a half hour. LOL.

OTOH, there are regulars at Wynncore that seem to have a similar triip cycle as mine, or they are locals that I have gotten to know, and we gravitate towards the same VP machines. It's fun playing with them and cheering each other on and there's no judgement. They also are not "watching" me play but rather we're playing alongside each other.

Yes I play differently, more casually with others. I’m at my best playing slots solo because no distractions. I like to get into my zone or groove, lol, and the freedom to roam when I feel like it.

My best gambling friend is also a slot slug, but we have totally different likes and dislikes when it comes to slots. So we play side by side for a period of time each day and chat as we play. Then we split up.
Same goes for my husband, we play together for short periods, and then split up. Also he heads to the room fairly early and I have the whole night to play into the wee hours of the morning all by myself.:D

When I was younger and new to gambling, i was more brazen and did more "fun" and risky things because I was playing with friends. And I don't regret it at all.

In terms of nowadays and whether I play different with anyone, no. I play the same. I ignore everyone at the table in terms of playing (but I still talk and have fun).
I have noticed, I win more when I play alone. :)

I normally play VP and occasionally slots, but I don't mind when a friend plays the machine along side me. What I use to hate was when my non-gambling friend(s) or relative(s) would hover behind me and watch my every move. LOL Although, that doesn't happen nowadays, since I no longer gamble if any of them are around.

Oh definitely, that’s why I almost always gamble alone! Just wondering tho for those of us who want to be alone and gamble, does that mean something’s wrong with us( half joking but kinda half serious question)?

When I'm in Vegas with my wife I gamble less because she isn't much of a gambler. She wants me to go have fun in the casino but then I feel bad because we're not doing something together. The only time she and I have been on the same gambling page was a few years ago at Aria. We played Wonka 3 Reel side by side and had a great time.

None of my friends seem to be as into gambling as I am or we play different types of games. I love betting games and hanging in the sportsbook with my brother in law. We had a great weekend at The Cal a year or so ago, but beyond that, he's not much of a VP or slot player.

The only person I've been to a casino with and we're on the same gambling page almost every time was my Mom. We could play slots or VP next to each other for a long time. I miss that.

As a craps player I definitely will play different when there are others with me. When solo, I can focus on the game and if I play for hours on end, it doesn't matter. It's just me.

Case in point is my last trip recently. My wife and I were in Vegas with our Bil and Sil. I had to plan my table play to coincide with the shopping trips, shows, and casino hopping that we did together as a group.

I also played more VP and slots, which is what my wife likes to play. We will play together and then my wife will tell me to go play craps because she knows that's what I like to do. But even when playing craps I will be mindful to make sure I check up on her and I always make a point to escort her to the room when she is tired and calls it a night.

Of course you know what happens after I walk her to the room and tuck her in for the night....back to the tables till the wee morning hours, lol!!

I tend to gamble less when I am with others, mainly because most of my companions in LV aren't big gamblers and we would rather do something else. When I am by myself, I gamble more, basically as something to do to kill time, but I too could take it or leave it and I usually get bored of it after a couple of hours. I might play some low stake poker or go on a coupon run which most other people seem to view as an utter waste of time.

    I do too.
My gambling buddy from Houston meets me in Vegas every Spring... we always have a blast & we typically play the same tables, at about the same pace.
Where the 'problem' comes is when he's ready to move on to another table or casino & I'm not. I almost always cave & color-up when he's ready to go.

When I'm solo, I play the table & casino exactly how long I want to... & this usually (but not always) means a winning trip. I will be more focused at the blackjack tables, I'll eat when I get hungry, and very-importantly, I actually get 6+ hours of sleep each night...tough to do when your buddy is calling you at 6 AM, ready to start the gambling day.
I also drink WAY less when I'm solo!

I am very fortunate as my wife loves to gamble and can sit at spanish or pai gow for hours every day. We also make it a point to play some slots side by side for an hour or 2 every day. VP bores her and hours on a table bores me, but we both love to play a ton. However, when friends come it can be a little more difficult. They have now all come to understand that I have a plan to put in a certain level of play every day to get the things we get. Occasionally my unwillingness to pay for a drink at the bar annoys them, but they very much appreciate the free dinners.

Seeing as my wife is usually the lucky one between us....We have found that her 'luck' runs better if I am not sitting near her But I am in the same casino.... On the other hand when she has gone on a bingo/casino trip without me she is usually either a break even or winner...

We like to start off in the casino together. But we like different games so at some point we each go our separate ways.
We keep in touch through texting. She can sit at a machine for hours. We will send each other updates on our wins
with picts and our current location and this seems to work for us. Sometimes I will text saying I'm going to the room.

    100% agree.
I have no problem playing a $1 machine while you play a 1 cent machine beside me... but if you stand behind me and just watch It will drive me nuts.
This is one of the reasons why I enjoy my solo trips more.

I play different when I am with "Non-Gamblers" vs Gamblers... the only reason is because I hate being someones entertainment.. "OMG look how much he just lost.. or WOW he got lucky or He won this time but how much did he loose before he won" they can never just be happy for you because you won..
