Gambling for hours without realizing you're tired or hungry

I never feel tired or hungry when i'm at the tables... I don't know what it is about gambling that makes you forget how much time passes and makes you not think about the last time you ate... I'll take a small break and then the fatigue will hit me. I realize that i'm exhausted, starving, and it's 5am to boot. Now i only book hotels with a 24 hour food court because of this.

I'm sure there are stories of people passing out while gambling. I do empathize for the elderly too. I can picture them losing track of time and skipping their meds.

I try to force myself to keep a somewhat reasonable sleep schedule. 2 meals a day... but I'm from California and most of my trips are just extended weekends so my friends and family and I usually try to make the most of it.

Any tips or things you guys do to make it better? I've seen some people load up on food and snacks back in their hotel. Pretty smart but if i'm on vacation i wanna eat out and not in my room

That happened a lot when I was younger. My metabolism would "shut down" while gambling.

It doesn't happen any more now that I have "set" gambling quotas.

Casinos do a great job of making you forget what time it is. The only time that doesn’t work out is when you bust your bankroll early and your like what do I do now lol.

I have win/loss limits on my bankroll that interrupt me every so often. For instance on $1 JoB I put in a $100 bill and will stop if I reach $200. Then I'll cash it out and walk around and hit a different machine with only $100. If I lose I'll try a second $100. Then I stop and will switch to craps. Walk over to that area, check the tables.
All this moving away from the games helps me from the hypnotic trance of the games but I must admit, it still does it to me a bit. But, I'm more aware of my state and can stop while alert.

I’ve done 12 hour straight black jack sessions at the bellagio.
Only stoppage was two bathroom breaks lol.

Table started at a 25 min and it hit 100 by the 8th hour lol

I drink an awful lot of beer out there, so I’ve gotta pretty good idea when two hours has passed.

When gray haired old ladies start showing up at the blackjack table, that's a signal that you're drunk, hungry, and tired. When it happened to me I went and ate breakfast twice, then went back to the room.

Not really. But I do like to do at least one long really late-night session during a trip and watch the casino go through the phases:

Gets real quiet, you mostly notice it when the music system stops for a couple of secs between songs
    Then
Cleaning crew starts vacuuming and polishing floors
    Then
People start passing by with coffee

I did party enough on one trip a long time ago that I went to the airport to go home 12 hours early, because I looked at a clock and thought it was 7am (it was actually 7pm the night before). I had the shades drawn the whole trip and it was summer, so the amount of light didn't tip me off.

I get it with any thing that makes me focus intently.

It’s ‘flow’ or ‘hyperfocus’, phenomenally useful skill to have in certain lines of work.

Never while gambling but I had a trip where I was just so busy doing things, from going to the pool to taking a few hundred photos to enjoying time downtown that I did not realize it was 7pm Vegas time and I had not eaten a thing and was starving, I woke at 4am Vegas time and got straight to moving.

I used to be like this when I was young and now I have learned to enjoy the incredible restaurants and take a break for food. I always have a problem sleeping while in Vegas, that part has never gone away for me, but I do try to sleep now!

In recent years, I’ve found that I make a deliberate stop to eat at regular times every day, whether hungry or not. Keeps me from being hangry.

If I'm playing VP or slots and the machines keep hitting, so I don't have to keep feeding them my bankroll, I tend to lose track of time, LOL On a few occasions, I was planning to have dinner at nice restaurant, but then realized it was way too late and they were all closed. That's why it's nice knowing where to find some good 24 hr cafes.

I also like taking longer trips (at least a week), so I can sorta keep to my normal schedule for eating/sleeping. On shorter trips, I get very little sleep, since I don't want to waste my Vegas time sleeping and it usually takes a day or two to for my biological clock to adjust to Vegas time. :snore:

I feel like a 6 year old playing with a new toy when in Vegas - having too much fun to eat, sleep or go to the bathroom. I am always looking for something quick to eat or have protein bars in my purse to keep up the energy. More times than I’d like to admit I’ve been at a table waiting for a shoe to finish or a roll to seven out while crossing my legs and dashed to the bathroom as soon as things stopped. The first night I always play too late on adrenaline.

I always say-- there is only one thing in Vegas that disappears faster than your money-- and that is time.

When you forget to eat then you know you’re a real gambler...the gambling realeases chemicals in the brain that basically shut off a lot of other receptors..so all your brain focuses on is gambling.
Like I’ve said a few times...there’s been weekends when I arrived Friday night and didn’t really leave the crap table until it was time to go on Sunday...(but that was probably 10 years ago; my wife wouldn’t let me do that now, haha)
