I've always avoided Spirit Airlines... but they're flight from BWI is.about $200 cheaper than any other DC area non stop.

    What's everyone's experience?

I avoid them if possible or only fly them on flights under 2 hours and i have a small carry on as my only baggae. my flight to vegas is 5+ hours. the seats are very uncomfortable and there is hardly any leg room. They nickle and dime you for everything from seat selection to baggage so you end up not saving as much money as you thought from the beginning. Customer service and in flight amenities are non-existent as well.

I haven’t flown them in years, but when I did it was a good experience. I actually got to my destination early a number of times. I assume it was because there was no fooling with bags. I haven’t done the long Boston to Vegas flight...yet.

I know about the bag issues... Not an issue. Flying in Friday and leaving Sunday and not doing anything overly fancy, so I can get away with a backpack.

I'm 6'3" so just worried about being in excruciating pain when I arrive from being so cramped.

It's worth it to save 200 bucks. Heck, that's 200 beers from the CW. I fly Spirit every trip to Vegas (4 hour flight) with just a "personal item" bag so no baggage fees. I suggest 2 Advil just as you board to kill the pain from the cramped seating. I'm 6' and just about fit in the seat pitch and I've always had interesting seat mates. I avoid Frontier Airlines. Like flying on a sawhorse.

Good advice on the Advil. 5 to 5 1/2 hours it looks like.

    50% :) (party with fellow low-rolling Vegas-bound revellers)
50% :cry:/ :faint: (cancellations, delays, armrest wars)

My aluminum collecting has been more lucrative lately.
Looks like Delta for our next trip... :D

According to a new statistical report assembled by the Wall Street Journal's Middle Seat column, Spirit Airlines is now the number four carrier in the country behind Delta, Alaska and Southwest. That puts it above both American and United, two of its more experienced, legacy competitors.

Per reports, their on-time arrivals have increased the last few years. Ive flown them to/from CLE-LV around 10-12 times now and about 8-10 times to/from CLE-ATL. No massive problems minus delays here and there. The same delays a lot of airlines have. I need to get to/from places safely and for a cheap price---they meet that criteria continuously.

I'm interested in this thread. I have never flown Spirit, but apparently Spirit will be flying out of Indy to Vegas starting this summer. So it will be a possible option for me in the future.

I believe they got a new CEO which has pushed a ton for on time arrivals/departures. We can usually find a round trip from DFW-LAS for $100 bucks during the week and about $160 on the weekends. So it’s super cheap.

If you are checking a bag pay when u make the reservation which is about $35 bucks. It will save u money. Dont wait till you are at the airport. Don’t select a seat, when u do the 24hr check in it will select it for you. We have never had a problem getting seats together as long as the reservation was made together.

Buy a drink at the airport and bring it on onboard instead of buying drinks on the plane. If you really need the extra leg room you can pay for the “BIG” front seats, they usually run between $35-85 dollars depending on the flight or about $15-25 for an exit row. We prefer to save money on the flight that we can spend in Vegas.

Ok everyone.. I fly Spirit 5-6 times plus a year.. From LA to Vegas, (45min) LA to Seattle (2.5 hours) LA to KC (3.5 hours) and LA to New Orleans (4 hours). My longest was LA to NYC (9 hour day with switching planes)
I have never been delayed or a had a problem ever and I have flown w/ them over 3 dozen times in past couple years.
Spirit for the budget is absolutely awesome IF........
-you know how to jam pack your stuff into a backpack (even a large backpack)
    -you are not obese
-you are not taller then 6'
-you dont care about getting your peanuts and a drink for free
-planes are all pretty much brand new
    -bathrooms are clean
-seats do not recline which is a bummer but hell for the price, i'll stand
-if you are 6' or taller, pay for the $25 extra room seats over the wing next to emergency exit.. those are comfy..

    Cheers

The D also gives you $50 match play just for showing your Spirit boarding pass within 24 hours of arrival

I have flown Spirit twice. I am a bigger dude, 250 6'3", I like their BIG front seats. The two times i flew them it came out to be same as flying coach on a legacy carrier and $5 than SWA>

    That's fair.

If you just wanna get there, light & fast, go Spirit. Think Greyhound with wings.

If you're afraid of scuffing your Tumi spinner, look elsewhere.

I just flew Spirit for the first time on my recent trip. It was great. Funny friendly flight attendants. Clean plane. So cheap. I don’t need “free” soda or peanuts. I’ll definitely fly them again.

Both flights I took were not full, and after we got to cruising altitude, we could swap seats.

I did not pay to pick my seat and got aisle both times.

It was a much better experience than I had been led to believe.

I also did pack personal item only and no one measured it or anything. Easy to get four days of stuff into a backpack.

    >Flew them once.
    >Looked for the button to recline my seat
    >couldn't figure the damn thing out
    >asked help from steward.
    >he tells me my seat is already "pre-reclined"
    >smart ass, seats didn't recline
    >fly Frontier and pay for their all inclusive service

Not for a few years now, but they make Frontier and Allegiant look like full service airlines by comparison!

My biggest complaint was having to sit through their live-action infomercial, performed in the aisle, for their stupid credit card. I don't know if they still do that, but I assume they probably do.
