We also just got back from the same room, tower rooms are much nicer than the pyramid and the elevator is faster. Pretty decent drink service this weekend as well, never without someone asking how I was doing, although it was warmer than usual in the casino this weekend. The casino is pretty decent, the walk to Mandalay Bay to play is easy as well. We do enjoy being able to use the hot tub at Mandalay Bay during the winter months. We have stayed in every Mlife property except Bellagio and we have no problems staying here.

I have stayed at every MGM property and i would put LUXOR at the VERY BOTTOM of the list. Main turnoff is the blah casino with low drop ceiling and smoky.

I did not experience any discomfort from smoking unless it was the person right next to me smoking heavily. Certainly no more than many other casinos.

I also did not feel that the ceiling was low.

That is what I like about this forum...each person experiences things and places a little differently...

We stayed at Luxor last Memorial Day and I wasn't jazzed when we booked but we were travelling with budget conscious friends. I was pleasantly surprised by our stay. The tower rooms were nice, the showers were great, the drink service at the bars while playing VP was excellent, and our experience with renting cabanas was very good. The two main areas that I didn't like is the fact that there is no security near the elevators and the pools were freezing cold. Other than that, it was a really good stay.

Ok thank guys. I feel more comfortable about trying Luxor out now. Looking forward to upgrading. Anyone know how soon you receive the upgrade email?

Keep in mind that lots of idiots leaving reviews on TripAdvisor factor their gambling results into their rating. I do not rely on casino hotel reviews for just this reason

I've stayed in just about every room type in Luxor and have never been disappointed. It's my go-to place. On my last trip the gal who joined me loved the place, my first clue that she may be a keeper!

This was also my experience staying at the Luxor just last summer! And I'm an Arizona native so I'm usually used to a little heat lol. But besides that I had no complaints about the property. Quality-wise, it's between the Excal and Mandalay Bay, just like it's between them geographically. If you want to "glam it up", it's an easy walk over to MB.

I've stayed there many times and never received one in advance of a trip. As far as I know, you have to inquire at check-in.

We've stayed there twice and had ok results, stayed pretty high up in corner pyramid rooms both times. One thing we noticed was that late at night, it can take a LONG time for hot water to get up to those higher rooms. We called maintenance after waiting ten minutes and by the time he got there it was finally getting warm, ten minutes later it was hot. He said the supply pipes are so big, that volume of hot water takes a long time if few people have been using it, like in the middle of the night. Other than that, everything was ok. We got to know the Luxor, MB, MGM, and NYNY pretty well and I'm about done with that area for a while, and I read somewhere that that corner is the biggest concentration of resort rooms anything in the USA (or maybe in the world?). Everything is massive in those properties. We walked across the street to the MGM to get to the monorail on the backside of the property and it seemed like a three mile walk. I'm old enough now I'm all about taxis and Uber.

Sounds reasonable. I ask because last time I stayed at mgm, I received an email offer to pay for an upgrade. It I’ll take my chances at check in.

Anyone know what the best/worst times are to check in? We should be at the hotel by 4pm on a Tuesday. Is it worth hopping in a long line or just dropping off luggage and starting the trip?

The checkin lines can be absolutely insane. We often gauge how fast they are moving etc and just dump bags at the Bell Hop and come back later.

@guitarguy Yeah, I've received similar emails at Aria so I know what you're referring to, but I'm fairly sure Luxor doesn't do that.

I disagree about the comments on Tripadvisor. I am a Level 6 contributor there with tons of hotel reviews and my ratings for the hotels ended up creating a normal distribution curve. So, I ended up writing about all my satisfaction, dissatisfaction or mediocre experiences, not just my complaint as most people think. I always check them when I am booking a hotel, but I take the reviews of the reviewers with 1-2 history with a grain of salt. If a person has more than 10 reviews, then it might be worthwhile to keep reading.

As far as Luxor is concerned, I found it to be totally adequate and great value for money in my three stays. I stayed at non-renovated tower, non-renovated pyramid and renovated tower and all three were fine. The service, check-in/check-out experience, welcoming staff were all great. My last stay was in October 2018.

Surely you must know people like you are the exception and not the rule.

I use Trip Adviser as much as Google Reviews, and it's like everywhere else, you have to read more than just one or two to get a complete picture. They moderate reviews better than most sites and there are a lot of people who put in time to give honest information, and those are the people I look for. I feel like I should contribute more but there are a lot of good honest people on TA. Overall, I think hotels get routinely brutalized on all review sites, or maybe I'm just not as demanding and picky as some.

Hi....I posted a positive TripAdvisor report on my stay at the Luxor in a Comped One-Bedroom Tower Suite. Look for a review by MsWhitt.

Last stay at Luxor, I was upgraded to the tower without asking on a comp.

The un-renovated Tower room was absolutely fine. It had a little wear, but it was clean and everything worked. I might be a bit concerned about the un-renovated Pyramid rooms, since they were worn when I stayed in 2008.

Tripadvisor reviews should be looked at in aggregate by time. If all the reviews start mentioning the same issue in good and bad reviews, it's an issue. If a couple people give 1-star reviews because they are angry because an hour of $5 blackjack didn't get their resort fees comped off, it's not worth worrying about.

The pools are decent. We rented a daybed for 2 days and the drink service was phenomenal. The pools themselves were freezing cold and this was during Memorial Day weekend last year. Temptation Sunday takes over the pool nearest the entrance on Sundays.
