A little background about myself. I'm diamond over at CET and genarally have comps at all CET properties year round. My usual bankroll is +/- $1k/day via slots with a sprinkle of VP. I average a strip trip every couple of months but venture downtown once a year for concerts.

We go to the Punk Rock Bowling music festival every year over Memorial Day. Before some of the late night club shows, we kill some time playing at The D. I've been receiving 4 night comp flyers in the mail for a while now and am thinking about staying at The D this year. The mailers talk about black out dates and I'm assuming Memorial Day is probably a black out period.

I've invested quite a bit of time and money in CET properties, I guess I'm just a little concerned about starting over somewhere else. I'm sure that probably sounds weird, lol. I'm very much a creature of habit and wonder if I should mess with a good thing. The other side of me wants to try something new. I'd really like to hear from people who have made the strip to downtown transition.

Has anyone had any luck reaching out to a host and having them match an offer from a strip casino?

Are resort fees waived on comped stays?

Do any of the 2 queen rooms have a view of the events center?

Are there refridgerators in the rooms and whats the coffee situation? I need coffee either in the room or close by.

Any idea what Scotch is comped on the casino floor?

    TIA!

No resort fee on comped rooms...
    The 'corner kings' have refrigerators...
Yes - you can get a north-east view
I've only ever ordered Dewars on the main floor...but I consider that a good blended scotch.
I don't thin you have to worry about 'the D' matching anything...their stand-alone offers should cover you.

At the level, you play the D will be offering you a fair amount of comps etc. I like the D it is not my first choice as I am a Blackjack player so I look for better tables. But the D has a nice Vibe to it and is in the center of the action. One thing to think about with rooms is noise. Some people find certain rooms to be loud downtown. It has never really bothered me but then again I am a deep sleeper. I switched to Downtown about 10 years ago and have never gone back

I don't think you have to look at it as starting over.

The strip and downtown are two different environments and two different experiences.

My gf and I are both Diamond with CET and can get comp'd rooms at all their properties when we feel like doing a strip trip. We have dining and freeplay and tournaments and show ticket offers as well. So we're taken care of by CET on the strip.

I have a great host at Downtown Grand(the only host at any property I engage with now) who takes great care of us when we want to stay downtown. I also have offers from other properties downtown for rooms, food, tourneys and freeplay. I may use the dining credit and freeplay from these offers sometimes, but we're very happy staying at DTG.

It's a big plus to have comp'd options both downtown and on the strip.

In general, Memorial Day is probably a tough(er) time to get a first time Comp. I am 7* and was intent on resuming my relationship with the D. My relationship had dropped from a high of $200 a month in FP (2 x $100 per month) , $200 in MP (2 x 100), $100 in FBC, and 4 nights a month to $35/$25/3 nights a month.

It was a "high demand/capacity weekend", and somehow the reservations department got my reservation screwed up and even though I was scheduled for a comp, I was going to get charged the rack rate. Fortunately, they got a hold of mt (new) host, who got everything fixed. So, a host helps. You might try sending a "blind" email to the host department (sorry, I don't give out my host's name to strangers) and explain to the host upfront, what your typical play numbers are and if they can help you out. Worst they can say is "no", or "we'd have to charge you the casino rate of $xxx" and we can adjust after we review your play.

Has anyone had any luck reaching out to a host and having them match an offer from a strip casino?
Haven't had to, since the D was my "home" casino In 2014.

Are resort fees waived on comped stays?
For me they have always been.

Do any of the 2 queen rooms have a view of the events center?
Not sure, but you can call and ask.

Are there refridgerators in the rooms and whats the coffee situation? I need coffee either in the room or close by.
There was a fridge in my room last week. Coffee is downstairs oin the first floor, open from 6AM to 5PM.

Any idea what Scotch is comped on the casino floor?
Sorry no, I typically don't drink alcohol.

If we have to teach you about the D, you might have to worry about more than just the downtown kind of virginity.

Can’t help on most questions, but two of the most important things to know:

    1. Coffee kiosk as noted by lv2gamble above - excellent and decently priced coffee and espresso.

    2. Sigma Derby!

Good info, thanks everyone. I was not aware that there was an upstairs part of the casino with more machines. Is there a list of locations that accept the F&B comps?

The D has 3 spots (that I know of) for food/beverage: Andiamo's (high end.....excellent food), the Grille (coffee shop food.....I have usually had good food there), and Coney Island (hot dog/fries). The food comps are now on the One card, which is SO much easier than standing in line at the player's desk to get a voucher.

the D comps are also usuable at LeThai (Thai restaurant on Fremont Street) and Bocho (Japanese restaurant at 6th and E Carson). You can use your "the One" card at each of these venues. See the review in the restaurant section TR for my meal at Le Thai.

There’s actually a pretty big list of places downtown you can use the card at now. Last trip we used it at Pizza Rock.

Will do! I've never played the derby game, maybe we'll give it a try. I swear that I've seen someting like it over at the Flamingo.

It’s just to loud for me. I only play craps and it’s just too noisy for me.

Yup in addition to Pizza Rock you can also use them at the Project BBQ food truck on Fremont. Pretty decent, especially for free.

The D is usually my downtown home. Really like the vibe and hanging at the long bar... if it gets too loud and chaotic downstairs I'll just go up to the 2nd floor and hang at the Vue bar for awhile or play Sigma Derby. Since my first venture downtown (stayed at Golden Nugget), I've stayed exclusively at the D at least once every year since.
