Wynn Q3 earnings call confirming a Fazio-redesigned golf course will be reopened next year and Paradise Park is no more. More info on Wynn West to possibly follow...…….

Edit: Maddox says they are looking at a two-year timeline of design, etc prior to the Wynn West build.

I do hope they reopen the Country Club. I never went there and regret that. I doubt it will be back by Christmas, but I can hope.

Also, I like the view of the golf course from the rooms. If I had my choice, I'd get a strip view, but I do like looking out at the gold course.

FWIW, I am at Wynn and two different employees told me the current plan is to finish the new convention doace, resume the golf course as either 9 or 18 holes, and build a new hotel on the Alon site. Thats at least what employees are being told

DM, I didn't hear the call myself, but the earnings statement had EBH still on track for middle of next year.

Apparently they are planning more hotel towers at Wynn Palace in Macau.

    15,000 rounds a year is 40 a day. That's nothing.

nothing for a regular course but, for this course? Once you factor in months where golfing is not ideal plus other bad weather days - Jan, Feb, July, Aug, you are now at @ 120 rounds per day.

This is Vegas, people can and do play basically any time of the year, and it almost never rains. Even if you throw out 4 months for being too hot/cold/whatever, that still only gets you to 60 rounds/15 foursomes a day.

That's barely a foursome an hour teeing off. That's not that much.

I agree. Those are inflated numbers in my opinion. We (the folks here on VMB) arguably have 1 or more people staying at Wynn and Encore every week of the year and the majority of those people can tell you that during their stay they saw no one or maybe 1 foursome playing the course all week long. I think Steve Wynn didn't care about how much play the course got but that it was looked at as an exclusive place to play for high rollers only that could enjoy a round of golf and take as long as they want betting, taking mulligans, etc..and basically have the course to themselves. The Lagoon thing was Steve's idea and now that he's gone, there's no one to push it. Just another sign that the new guy is a bean counter and not a visionary. Whether that turns out to be better financially (for stockholders) remains to be seen but for sure the days of elaborate ideas coming to fruition are gone if you ask me.

The news that the lagoon project was cancelled and the golf course retained (at least temporarily) makes me happy. I don't know why it makes me happy it just does.

I’m glad they are keeping the golf course. It may be a loss leader...but it brings in some huge players and it looks beautiful.

The golf course draws golfers. Otherwise they go elsewhere. It’s also a beautiful backdrop for the fairway villas and all rooms which face that way. With some deference to Wynn’s vision, I could never visualize the people being attracted to a lagoon attraction being solidly in Wynn’s present core guest demographic, so the intent must have been to draw more of the beach club type crowd-I know those younger people are profitable, but I wonder where all their money comes from. Personally, I’m happiest when the beach crowd is over messing up Encore and staying away from the Wynn side.

I’m happy that the golf course will remain, and I’m in the group hoping for return of The Country Club. I hope Fazio keeps the big waterfall. I’m no longer a shareholder,so my interest is that Wynn stays more the way it is, and not chase the lagoon $$, if indeed they forecast any lagoon $$. If it costs $2 or $3 billion, a good return on that might be tough......

I really had no preference on this subject. I like seeing new things, but I also think the golf course was really pretty. That said, I disagree that the lagoon project was intended to capture a young demographic. Actually, I think it was trying to reach the opposite. A boardwalk style lagoon with carnival games and a nightly light show is not what draws in young people. I suspect (just my guess, no real proof) is that the clubs, bars and other things that draw in the young crowd has started to decline and that's why Wynn has tried to diversify its focus on drawing in more of the convention crowd. I do agree that the resort's core demographic wouldn't be drawn to the lagoon and I suspect that's why the Board finally axed the project.

Wynn's Q4 call indicates the convention center and golf course slated to be ready in Feb 2020.

Also Alon site development design phase alone will take at least two years and that "retail, casino, rooms alone are no longer going to cut it"......whatever that means

When you are playing / comping @ a rate of 500$ per round I’m not sure how it is not profitable. But then I’ve never been privy. Insight?
