Posted a trip report yesterday with some pictures, if you're still interested.

 

Best VP anywhere especially if they have some kind of special going on. Lots of smokers everywhere—hard to avoid them so I’m changing machines often. Used to be the best double deck BJ, so the tables were packed. They now shuffle after dealing one deck so you waste a lot of time watching the dealer shuffle. Their tables are now mostly closed and the open ones are empty.

 

They shuffle by machine so there is very little down time.

 

They seem to follow the "Boyd" double-deck pitch rule: cut away about half... so, yeah - the "deal one deck & then shuffle" comment is technically correct.

 

I've spent the last month playing BJ at Southpoint mornings about every other day. Still giving decent comps from pit for $5 level.

South Point is highly recommended. Restaurants are outstanding, and it has a really good local following. I have always done fairly well there on VP and some of the table games. The poker room is very friendly as well.

 

I will be checking it out a week from today for Monday Night NFL. They advertise free giveaways. $1 hot dogs $5 wings $5 buckets of 5 Bud Lights ect..

 

Been to South Point a few times, great if you have a car or if you are fine hitting and staying in a single casino during your stay/trip. Loved the rooms and video poker selection. A bit smoky, mostly locals are the two drawbacks, but they do have a non smoking machine section.

Several years ago someone mentioned on this board they don't send a lot of mailers to out of town guests, but if you gave them solid play and called the host, they will take care of you. I did, they did take care of me and it works out great that way. It's just different then what the larger casinos (CET, MILFe and Boyd) typically do for out of town guests.

Thanks. Where is the NS machine section?

 

Not sure if it's still there, or if I am recalling correctly, but IIRC there was a bank of machines, including three play JOB with non smoking signs to the east of the main bars between the bars and entrance. Not sure if it's still accurate, but even if it was a designated area or just nobody was smoking by us for a few hours the last time I was there (two years ago), but it was an oasis among the 4/5 smokers occupying the casino.

I lived in a smokers house, and was used to smoking either at work (the race track), after hours (bars), or personally (age 12-19), but since bars became smoke free over a decade ago in Chicago, I become more smoke sensitive to smoke over the past decade plus. Not sure if there is an official vp/slot area like one exists at the Stations Casinos, but I do recall having a lengthy reprieve at South Point in a certain area, either officially or just by chance.

I looked at VP Free 2.0 and don't see machines designated in a NS (non smoking area) at South Point, so it's likely there is no official area, or at least currently, as you can find in other casinos.

 

Except for and occasional chain smoker here or there, I have never had a problem with smoke at SP. It's a large place with high ceilings and it's easy to find a machine or table with little or no smoke. I tend not to be there late at night so that might make a a difference.

Thanks. Viva, I'm a fellow Chicagoan, now in the SW Burbs. I'm just hoping Mother Nature doesn't give us another wallop soon since I leave for SP on Tuesday.

 

I'll be staying there in mid June for a convention. Other than taxi, is public transportation available to the strip area? Any shuttle services? I prefer NOT to rent a car.

 

I’ll be there also in June; for the CCA convention. From what I remember there is a bus pickup, maybe on the other side of LVB, that goes towards the strip but IIRC there is a transfer before you get to MB and points further north.

 

The bus stop for the northbound 117 route is to the right of the front door. Take the 117 to across from Town Square. There, it's a transfer to the SDX or Deuce to get the rest of the way to the strip.

For the return trip, SDX/Deuce to the South Premium Outlets, cross Warm Springs and catch the 117. Or, stay on the SDX/Deuce to the South Strip Transfer Terminal (SSTT), and transfer there to the 117.

The stop for the South Point is the first stop after the bus turns left off LVB onto Silverado Ranch.

 

SP offers an airport shuttle, you can find the schedule on their website (I think it's under the Hotel section). If the timing doesn't work, I'd recommend taking the rental car shuttle from the airport to the rental car center. There you can catch a cab or Uber/Lyft for less money than directly from the airport.
