I’ve never stayed at GN, but have at a few other places DT and will be staying for the third time for one night in a few weeks at the DT Grand. Love that place, very nice hotel. Another one of my favorites is the El Cortez Cabana Suites.

Downtown Grand is nice. I was able to book a weeknight through Groupon for $30 last summer with an upgrade to a corner suite. After resort fees it was just over $50. Room was really nice, casino is really nice and clean (but dead), and the pool area was nice too.

I'd check Groupon if you don't already have players cards at any of these properties since they seem to have good deals most of the time.

I'm a big fan of Plaza! Have always been treated very well there and everyone has been super friendly!

Stayed at the DT Grand last summer. The first room they gave smelled like dope. The second looked way down on the pool.
The noise was horrible when they had their Friday nite pool party. The AC in our room made a loud bang everytime time it shut off. We called maintenance, someone came up to fix it when we were out of the room. When we came back, it wasn't fixed and our room reeked of marijuana. Casino was dead and they charge $6 for a pint of bud lite in the restaurant. No thanks, back to the California or MST.

I totally concur with her! Other choice may be Grand! Both are nice and a great bargain!

I am partial to The D. Rooms are decent, they seem to comp for return visits pretty well, and its decently priced. Not to mention the staff, bartenders, etc are all pretty good.

I would have to disagree here. I just stayed at Plaza, booked based on hosts being on this board and other recommendations from here.

Now, it is not a bad place by any means. The room was clean and serviceable. Bathroom was kind of small and weird(shutting the toilet in a small area with the shower).

I just found the place to be boring. The casino was not very lively. I booked my room through a host, and got about the same price I would get at a CET property such as Planet Hollywood(who comped me 2 other nights). I gambled some at Plaza, and got nothing off on the back end, not even resort fees. Even the Golden Nugget took off my resort fees on my first stay there (and have been sending me decent mailers since). The clerk at checkin pretty much threw my $20 trick back in my face and said there is nothing I can do for you(PH clerks have hooked me up twice now with badass rooms) . IMO Oscars and Hash House a Go Go are the best things about Plaza.

I liked the Golden Nugget much more. And my friend stayed at The Cal, I spent some time there. His room was nicer than mine, and he got it all the way comped. Their casino seemed a little livelier as well, but I did not play there.

Downtown Grand without a question. It is the best value for your buck if you don’t mind gambling elsewhere. When staying in a base room downtown, Downtown Grand is the only room my wife will stay in. Downtown Grand is a very nice downtown property, it is just horribly mismanaged. I still love it, though.
