My downtown hotel experience has been limited to staying at the Nugget several times for a few nights.
Overall, I enjoyed it as a change up from the strip prior to moving to one of the Strip hotels to finish my trip.
This place looks like a breath of fresh air for downtown.
For some of the downtown regulars,it may look too much like the Strip but I believe it will be be very successful in bringing new tourists downtown.

Well, it is downtown. And I'm not sure what "out of place" means. I mean, "new" is out of place downtown.

Its footprint is smaller than that of Golden Nugget, which has more than three times the number of rooms that Circa is going to have. Without a doubt, this is a major addition to downtown, the most significant in terms of a new hotel/casino since Union Plaza was built almost 50 years ago. But saying it's out of place -- what new addition would be "in place"? Is downtown supposed to remain perpetually in 1970?

I ask this acknowledging that I too have concerns about the overall atmosphere downtown changing in ways I don't like. I hated the canopy over Fremont when it was introduced. But I also realize that Vegas is a constantly evolving thing.

    None.

A bigger footprint and more rooms doesn't stop it from looking like a dump compared to the new property.

    Yes. I agree.

I understand the concept for the name, but it doesn't do much for me. It's not offensive, it just doesn't do much for me, but it'll grow on me I'm sure. 18 Fremont would have been fine with me. It will stick out, but anything you build will as it won't be 40 years old or more. It should do a lot for DT just as new hotels did for the strip during the boom years. I'll be curious to see the "largest sportsbook in LV" when finished. I plan to stay at MSS in the future and a large comfortable book fits in well. I'll look forward to what other DT properties will be doing.

    Good Luck!

I'm pretty sure that, when the Plaza was built, people on the non-existent-but-hypothetical "internet" would have considered it "out-of-place"... I know I would have... but yet, it's not out of place after all!
DTG went through the same thing... and, while it's probably still considered a bit out-of-place, more & more, we've grown to accept it.
It's going to be the same thing with Circa... after the "wow"-level newness wears off, we'll all just consider it as a normal part of downtown.

And I expect it will have worn off by Day 2 on my first trip after it opens, and the focus will be on specific features it has that I like.

I think your thought here just legitimizes the "Smelly Sock" analogy that has been talked about. We here at VMB have grown accustomed to talking about "18 Fremont." That is the "norm" that we have become comfortable with. "Circa" could just as well be Mirca, or Pirca, or Zirca. Very soon it's just going to be a name that means this casino. Just don't call it Dirca:

Personally I love everything I've seen about it including the name which makes a lot of sense to me. Supposed to evoke 50s Vegas or 80s Vegas so I think it's appropriate. The first trip I take after it opens, I will be making a DT visit just to see if it's as cool as it looks.

I am so excited about Circa opening at the end of 2020. I'm so glad that Derek Stevens is the one that is getting the opportunity to build this casino. He is one of the few, if not the only owner that is on the floor talking to his customers. Downtown is in desperate need of a great pool scene, and a big sports book. It looks like he is going to knock both of these out of the park!!

No, just sure how it fits with pretty much everything around it being "fairly aged". Curious just how far back it will sit on Fremont street.

According to this artist rendition, the hotel will be at the back of the property at Ogden, while the casino butts up against FSE.

It also brings to mind the original iMacs that came out in the early 2000s. I assume the rooms in Circa will be equipped with USB instead of serial ports, and a nifty read/write CD drive.
