What Name for "18 Fremont"? Circa Las Vegas

Naming a casino - especially one that will, ultimately, become iconic for every fan of Fremont & downtown - is sort-of a big deal.
Nobody has really talked about it here...so, here's a poll... hopefully, Derek checks out VMB from time-to-time!

 

I voted for Las Vegas Club. My first trip in 05 I think I enjoy that place and EC better than any we visited. I'm sure it wont be the same though.

 

18 Fremont - Tasteless. That's an address, not a name.

Grandissimo - It sounds pretentious, and it is pretentious. The meaning of the word "grandissimo" in Italian is basically "of great importance/significance". Fremont Street is also an almost uniformly American theme, I don't think that an Italian word fits well into that.

Stardust - Disrespectful to the real Stardust and the history of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Club - Ehh. Better than Stardust, but still, it's disrespectful to the legacy of the actual Las Vegas Club.

My name suggestion might be a bit oddball, but I would suggest calling it Alcatraz. Aside from the fact that it has a memorable, edgy, mobster-type vibe to it (particularly because Al Capone and other mobsters were locked up in Alcatraz)... think about 18 Fremont's location. It's right across from the Golden Gate Hotel and Casino... and what's right across from the Golden Gate Bridge in California? Alcatraz Island!

I highly doubt they'll actually call it that. But I think it makes the most sense, in a way that's theme-consistent.

 

Grandissimo -- no way.
Stardust -- no. I cherish the old gal, but this isn't the place for it.
LVC -- hmm.. I never had any feelings for that joint, and I love just about anything downtown, but I could live with it if that is what Derek goes with.
I will thrown some things out there:
the Mint
Pioneer Club
Frontier
Silver City -- I always thought if I owned a casino, I would like to bring back that name from the old strip property.
or of course, something more original but it has to be Vegas-y.
I would love to see something western themed, but not over-themed.

 

Its a Stevens casino, may as well call it the Party Pit.

I really like Las Vegas Club but I voted for 18 Fremont. I know it's an address but it sounds trendy and like a destination place for those who want to see and be seen.

 

Just call it the Hipster Doofus.

 

Derek’s. And they could have dominoes in the cellar as a back-up (so to speak). And Layla could wear her bell bottoms. She always looked great in those!!

 

I have no idea but it will probably be something stupid like the D or SLS so it couldn't possibly offend any focus group.

I sort of like "The Shangri-La"... in the movie, "The Cooler", this was the name of Alec Baldwin's downtown property.

I suggest the "NRF-FP" (No Resort Fee Free Parking) casino.

VMBers would finally have a complaint free destination!

it's tough to please most people these days..


Nothing wrong with 18 Fremont, The DD, The Casino, or the place with no name.. It's more Vegas history, and more DTLV transformation.

Fontainebleau will become The Drew, those Ohio casinos are called Jack, and this may be 18 Fremont.

I guess all the good names are spoken for.
