When we lived in the SF Bay Area, we went a lot more often than I go now. We'd do short trips, 2-3 nights, but several times a year. Now, I go solo and usually for 6 nights at a time.

Probably..if I was closer like the DC/NYC distance I would go more often, for 3-4 days each time.

Probably. If we were 5 hours or less drive, I would probably want to go once a quarter if possible.

I definitely would go more often. Right now it takes a 5 1/2 hour flight to get to Vegas and a 6 hour flight to get back home. Probably the most irritating part of going to Vegas.

Like the OP mentioned, a 1 or 2 hour flight would be optimal. I hate flying but I hate long distance driving even more.

Absolutely. We were generally going 3x a year for 3 nights when it was a 2 hour, cheap flight. Now that it’s 4.5 hours, we’ve got to be able to stay longer for it to be worth it. We’ve only made 2 trips, both this year, in the 3 years since we moved farther away. The more frequent, shorter trips worked better for sure.

The answer is Yes, which is why I would never move there. Fortunately the closest casino to me that I would actually go to is 6-7 hours driving and almost the same flying from door to door. In the past we have made 4 -6 trips a year to Vegas but this year will only be two. Next year I hope to squeeze in a few short solo trips in addition to a family trip.

Living in Southern California with a typical 3-3/12 hr drive, this is what we do. Short trips, more times a year.
That way we can build each trip around a planned event (show, meetup with friends, new restaurant,
concert, different hotel, off-strip places of interest...) and the rest is gambling and winging it.
Maybe when hubs retires we'll do longer trips, fewer times a year.

probably.... last trip the long flights were killing me. 5:45 from hartford. at least going home it's only 4:20 lol

it ain't vegas, but foxwoods and mohegan sun are only a bit over an hour away..and believe it or not, they have better blackjack games than on the Strip.

and if really need to satisfy my gambling jonesy MGM Springfield MA is 17 miles from casa da mijo

If I lived within a 5-hour driving distance, then for sure! I already do a local about once a month for a couple of nights and that's a 3-hour drive.

I'd probably be up there once a month if I was in California.

I actually prefer getting my stint done in one hit, and then it gives me something to look forward to for 11 months :D

The answer is definitely yes, unless the place I was living closer to Vegas is somewhere in north Nevada, then maybe I would get addicted to those places there with good VP. :D Still, that is close enough to find the motivation now and then to check out the Strip.

My flight to vegas is 4 hours. I don't mind it. It gives me a chance to catch up on streaming shows, reading, and back in the day it was a chance to get a lot of work done without the phone interrupting me. Tunica is a 3.5 hour drive, so its basically the same in terms of travel time. And on the rare occasions I feel an immediate need to gamble, Harrahs Metropolis is a two hour drive (which I have done a few times on the spur of the moment).

I am fortunate that I have the time and income to go to vegas a lot. If that weren't the case, maybe a closer proximity would lead me there more often. But for me, it was always about disposable income and time. Now that I have plenty of both of those, the distance isn't an issue

Definitely! I'm currently a 9-10 hour drive away, or a two hour drive\two hour flight. If I lived in LA, I could see working weekends in order to avoid the massive weekend crowds and probably do weekday Vegas getaways VERY often!

Probably. A two-hour flight is less arduous (IMO) than a four hour flight...and probably less expensive (though not by much).

If I ever get the chance to move, it will be to Las Vegas. My husband has me trapped in this house (it's nice; we built it.) an hour away from Atlantic City. So, I go to AC once a week, or so. BUT it's NOT Vegas. I see it this way...
either he'll die and then I'll move to Vegas, or I'll die and then it won't matter. Being realistic, eventually one or the other will happen. I can deal with it either way. :wiggle: God will let us know.

Yes, but no so much for the gambling, food or big shows by themselves.

I’ve lived my whole life 45 minutes from AC, 20 minutes from Philly and 1 1/2 hours from NYC. I’m spoiled by what is available with a short drive.

Vegas is more of an escape from reality. I just wish it wasn’t a 5 1/2 hour flight away.
