As you all know, first prize is a Cadillac Eldorado.

This got a lot of mileage at Nielsen during The Great Blackstone Private Equity Layoff Festival.

Not necessarily funny, of course, more like laughing in the face of despair.

 

I worked for a company where annual bonuses were based on NBT (Net Income Before Taxes) which for someone in Sales is not an incentive to overdrive your budget. You could have a great year individually, but because of higher SGA (cost of Sales, General, Administration) the company could miss its NBT target. So in those years, we would complain that we got the Steak Knives.

One year the company announced that it was buying a new plant and because of accounting rules, the expenses would be amortized and this would not affect NBT. Sure as shit, we missed it and management disclosed that there were cost over runs on the new plant that affected NBT, so no bonus.

 

I have a bad feeling about this. (used in every movie in this series)
