I visited the Eastside Cannery the last three days. I couldn’t believe how few customers were present! They cannot be making a profit, so I am wondering if they will be able to survive much longer in their present make-up. It certainly doesn’t help that they closed the buffet, and the sports deli. The place is DEAD! I have no idea why Boyd Gaming bought this property, but I am guessing they will probably be selling it. Any thoughts?

It was dead when we stayed there in august and there was no crowd made for front row parking I liked that but not good for business they moved bingo to SAM'S TOWN and moved the sports book and got rid of the buffet & steakhouse and now send you to SAM'S TOWN for that to, alway's enjoyed the deli when watching games in the sport's book also last time they had no bands in MARLYN'S LOUNGE when we were there and they never opened that bar either oh well the rooms were still well kept and we still can use the 3rd floor laundy and SNAPS café was excellent. We asked a waitress what was going on the she said that they did not want the bingo competing with there other bingo rooms and that they were going to make changes to the food offerings but did not know when will be staying again in NOV we will see if anything changed then it was one of are favorite places to stay hope they get there shit together and run the place like it should be ran, wife got her 1st bingo there and I got my first royal flush, we will miss it if it closes.

By not including either Cannery in there new B-connected program but including Aliante which was purchased at the same time one would think there toast. They must have felt Stations was going to buy them so they put a block up, but seems like a waste of money.

I wonder who's in charge of doling out comps at the joint. If their comp policies are established in-house rather than by Boyd shills, it might behoove them to make some decent offers to keep a loyal clientele base if they're sold anytime soon.

Does anyone have experience with recent comps there?

If they'd only follow the advice often given here... you know... " only single-deck 3/2 BJ, better odds on tables, no resort fees, open-up that buffet, but price it at $4.99, put some Betty Grable posters up around the joint and give out some free-bus passes so we can get there from downtown." I think the place would fill up again.

That's a shame to see the Cannery going downhill. I kind of liked it when I went there while staying at Sam's Town last Spring. Do they have anything open for food? I remember having breakfast I believe near the bar. Can't recall the name of it though. It might have been Marilyn's. I was going to stay at the Cannery last year but changed my hotel to the Strip after I bought tickets to the NHL award's and Golden Knight's expansion draft and wanted to stay nearby.

I have not been to the Eastside Cannery in a couple years but it sounds like Boyd killed it. The place used to be very busy even during the weekday daytime hours.

I stopped going there because I did not like that their PaiGow tables had the "meter" for the bonus bet. I really don't like playing that.

The Cannery buys had very little to do with Boyd buying them to run them as they were. They were bought to keep them away from other casino operators who would have otherwise gained a foothold in Boyds North Las Vegas market.

By taking the two over, Boyd chased out Millennium Gaming, Oaktree Capital Management and Crown Resorts Limited all three of which had a stake in the Cannery's. Why would Boyd want to run customers between Sams Town and Cannery? Why would they want to run competing business between the two, when those two are the only casinos around within 5 miles of each other in any direction? The next closest, I believe, would be Aliante which Boyd also locked up.

Me thinks the plan all along was to push any players in the Cannery database over to Boyd and then just protect their turf. Cannery just becomes an annex for Samtown, like another tower. And Boyd makes their money on the gained players and hotel rentals once the race season kicks in.

Eastside Cannery alone was less than 10 years old when Boyd bought it. It cost a quarter of a billion dollars to build. Boyd paid less than that, and got the original Cannery thrown in for free. It was a power move. The plan was never to make Eastside a success and pull the locals from Sams. I wouldnt be shocked if it became a write off and the lot was sold for warehousing, which is booming in the Valley

You have to remember, in 2016, Boyd was ripe with cash from the Borgata sell off to MGM. I believe that $900MIL was a cash deal. So they never had any urgency to start collecting gains on either of the two Cannery's.

Visited the Cannery/beautiful facade, for the first time in August. Hell, the Longhorn had more business than the Cannery. The drink service was non-existent on the Cannery gaming floor, and the place was a morgue...sad. We played for an hour and left.

Boyd buying Cannery was similar to Stations buying Fiesta years ago. It was solely done to eliminate competition. Go to the Fiesta now and it's a shell of what it was when Maloof owned it and Stations doesn't care. They know they are getting most of these former customers elsewhere so there's no need to put money into the operation of Fiesta.

I wish they had put that money into upgrading ST. I used to stay there a number of years ago, but it was too trashy even by my standards. They keep saying they've "refreshed" the rooms. Their definition of refresh and mine differ a ton. I know, I know, they made major money moves. I'm just wishing out of my ass. :p

I'll cosign this! I went back to Sams for the first time last year. Been away from the place for 15 years and always wanted to go back. Here was my sentiments walking into the casino

"I walked into the casino and the charm completely wore away. Dated, stale smelling, older machines with even older people playing on them. The carpet was worn, the wallpaper stained from years of smoke. Wood accents nicked or broken." I love me a dated 1990's type casino. But the quickly fades when dated gives way to neglected and broken.

The staff was a bit rude as well, maybe because me and my click were under 40 years old? Hell, anything under 60 would be young in that joint!

This. Perfect. It's sad really. In the 90's it actually was a nice place. sigh.

I know you are a highroller, but are you getting fair comps from Sam's? I had this one drop in visit, I think this might have been the only time I ever played there with my card. I recorded $4K of coin, 100% slots, in a couple hours and I finally got an offer from them like 3 months later. But it was a room free for 2 nights along with $10 in free play and $5 in food. I tossed it in the trash.

@Grid I haven't gambled there in years. I was sort of low rolling then, but I felt free room for literally however many days I wanted/needed and the Gold Card were sufficient for my play. Oh and btw, no where near a High Roller...wishful thinking on my behalf! I'm just in the San Francisco Bay Area which is skewed financially. Kind of like car side view mirrors...budgets are larger than they appear. ;)

That quote makes absolutely no sense at all.
So your ideal vegas casino caters to no one over 40??

ST is not THAT bad...there have been substantial upgrades, and in many ways it still represents good value.
PS, the wife and I are 70+....fortunately, there is room for all of us in vegas
