They bought a casino company from Merv Griifin and those locations became Harrah's but he didn't own the property on the strip. It used to be the Holiday Casino and then it was bought by Holiday Inn. Holiday Inn owned Harrah's as a subsidiary and eventually rebranded the strip location as a Harrah's. Eventually Harrah's was spun off from Holiday Inn.

I always hated the Jester/Orleans theme at Harrah's. Glad to see it go. Good riddens.
I do love the Cashmans. Couldn't stand to see that taken out.

I was just there last week, and they were taking hammers to the Mardi Gras facade.

For those of you that didn't know, the old Holiday Casino's riverboat theme was just wrapped up behind walls when the property was flipped into Harrahs in 1992.

You can still see outlines of the old girl when looking down from the Strip facing rooms at Harrahs.

They now have the North Entrance blocked off, and you can see big chunks of the facade removed. Not taken off, but smashed and tossed on the ground.

Here is another picture I took. Normally I would have just thought they were replacing the sign in its belly. Nope. One of the giant balls to the right of this sign was smashed up and laying on the ground. You can sort of see that in my picture.

I was just reading how Ralph Englestad moved a bunch of buildings from his IP out to what used to be the Klondike. I always wondered where that boat shape ended up and if it went there. Shame they are not saving the bird jester.

That entrance was really a shit show last week. The scaffolding and curtains ran out half way to McDonalds. You still had the bums, drug dealers and dirty Mickey & Minnie crowding that corner. It was rough!

Maybe it's a ploy to discourage people from sneaking over to McDonalds or CR.

Speaking of the Nob Hill....that's where 35 years ago I had the bright idea of the bj strategy where you just keep doubling your bet until you win. So, at a $1 table, I proceeded to lose consecutively $1, then 2 then 4 then 8 then 16 then 32 then 64. I had just enough cash to be the 128 to win the next hand. Never used that strategy again.

Harrahs was a mystery to me. I never quite knew what theme it was trying to portray. I like those statues of the man and lady inside with lots of cash coming out of their pockets, suitcases, and butts.

Carnival, Mardi Gras, New Orleans, thats what they were trying to portray...many things there are taken from or originated in New Olreans.

The signage was updated to LEDs similar to whats by the Linq.

Also that main sign area looked so gross with all of the dust a debris up there

I always loved harrahs in other cities (New Orleans, Atlantic city) but never particularly loved the one in Vegas. That being said, it was the first casino my dad and me attended when I first started going to Vegas 8 years ago so I have some fond memories of the layout and structure. Hopefully whatever other changes they make are indeed for the better!
