I've used the PlayMGM app and it definitely allows some parlays. I don't think any of them will accept credit cards though. For the MGM app, you can go into any of the MGM casinos to set up your account and add money. You can collect at their sports books but the money won just gets added to your account on the app.

 

None of the apps are going to accept credit cards. Just the nature of the beast.

 

How do you put money on the app?

 

You go into the sports book at any M Life casino and set up an account and give them the cash. There is also a William Hill app and I think you can set that up at the Harrahs "sports book" and probably a couple other places, same way as PlayMGM.

 

Surprisingly, the NJ mobile sports apps are accepting credit cards.

 

Interesting. I thought that was illegal. I guess that only applies to Nevada?

 

It may or may not be necessarily illegal but I’m shocked the credit card companies allow it.

 

I'm not sure of the legality but I imagine it must be perfectly legal, at least per NJ law.

I did see one of the Apps mention that your credit card company might view the transaction as a cash advance and charge additional fees, while other CC companies might reject charges from gambling sites.

I used a bank transfer.

 

It's been legalized, why do they care?

 

I don't think it is necessarily the sports gambling but just gambling in general. You can't just stick your credit card in a slot machine. What if it is a stolen card and they go put $5k on the app and then cash out.

 

Because it's a huge liability for the credit card companies. Someone who takes out credit to gamble is less likely to pay it back. I agree with @DrMBachJr, I don't think it is necessarily sports betting but gambling in general.

Back when online poker was starting up players could use credit cards on the sites. The CC companies quickly shut that down.

Again, I'm surprised the books take credit. Again, to use @DrMBachJr's example, what if someone uses a stolen card to make a sizeable wager. The owner reports it stolen and then the CC company refuses to pay. The book is left holding the bag.

 

Can you have them send you a check if you forget cash out?

 

Not really sure, but the money stays on the app. I don't think there is a finite life to the money on there. I just checked on the app in the support section and found this.

 

that was because the poker sites were of questionable legality, not because they are afraid of not getting paid back. They were afraid that the Feds would hammer them, just as they are afraid of state legalized pot now. Look at how the feds hammered Neteller and others

You've been able to get a CC cash advance at a casino for a loooooong time. Why wouldn't they ban that if they were worried? The truth is they aren't getting that granular on a $100 transaction. They want their fees.

CC theft via a bet seems absurdly stupid. You gain nothing by betting and leaving money in an account with your name; you have to withdraw the money in order to gain a benefit from it. it's way too involved. No one with a brain is going to do this. People are going to buy stuff they keep or can sell easily.

 

You can go put your CC in an ATM at Harrahs and get a 1k advance right now.

And a withdrawal from the app to an account is going to create a paper trail to an account that can potentially be tied to you.

 

If CC companies and the banks that issue cards really were afraid of gamblers, why wouldn't they ban you from staying at Hollywood Kansas City? Ban you from eating at the Aria buffet? After all, you're probably there gambling and losing money.

They have your credit history, etc. when you apply. They have loads of information about you that they can rely on. No CC company/bank with a brain is going to start banning people from putting $250 on Fanduel or whatever. They don't want to lose decent customers over a silly rule like this

 

I don't disagree with you, but I have never been able to place a bet at any sports book in Vegas with my CC. I don't 100% know the reason for that, but I always figured it was for fraud or to prevent problem gamblers from overextending themselves.

 

There are other parties who care about this besides the CC companies. For instance, in the state of Nevada, the state has banned the use of credit cards for wagering at a casino. This is why you can't pull out your AMEX and withdraw $500 at the table. They haven't banned cash advances, which is why they offer those.

 

Lots of sites take cc - just not the ones prev posters use.

I use an offshore site Bodog and it suits me fine. Ppl will say risk of shutting dow, losing money, can’t withdraw, etc but I hAve not experienced any of this.

Site works wherever I go (incl Vegas) make my bets and chill. No running to books to deposit/cash, no jurisdiction issues - available all the time.

Switched a couple of years ago due to forgetting to cash a couple of winners - not gonna happen with the app.
