The standard rooms at the D are nice enough for a solo traveler and I think you would enjoy the dice game there, as long as you do not mind the noise factor. The basic rooms at the 4Q with no resort fee are good too. Everything is easy walking distance downtown so you don't necessarily have to play where you stay just go next door or across the street.

Doing the same thing this trip. Doing 4 nights downtown before heading to Harrahs for 6 more.

I would either be dead from dehydration, or bankrupt somewhere around night 2 or 3 of the second leg of that trip!

The suites at the D or GG are very nice but if I wanted a standard room I would go for the El Cortez. I like the atmosphere there. I too don't care for GN.

There is the possibility I’ll be trying to sell water on the crosswalks before it’s over.

The room requirements seem minimal so definitely avoid the GN simply based on the above.
Only been in the GN sports book and not impressed at all. Can't comment on others but will say GN will give you the least in terms of comps.

Decided to go with a D corner king suite.

Downtown wise, I have been to the Mob Museum before, and may go back. The only downtown meals I have ate are breakfast at MTO cafe (love it). The only time I have drank downtown, was the brewery at 4 Queens, but it was very dead. Any other time I have been downtown, it was usually just wondering around under the canopy for an hour or two.

So, tell me all the best things to eat and where to drink down there (especially solo). Best sports book or bar to watch some playoff baseball or Thursday night football. And what to do to kill time, besides gambling or the Mob Museum.

I did pop in there on a trip that I had a car. It seemed cool, just dead when I was there, was like 5 or 6 oclock. I can try back later in the evening one night.

Because you are coming in for a fight, you’re probably not a delicate flower ;). In which case, give Hogs and Heifers a shot one night. Things usually don’t start hopping til 10 or so. Some hate it, many love it.

I enjoyed downtown for the most part. My plan and Itinerary ended up being a little different than I stated in this post. I wound up staying the weekend at Golden Nugget, which I really liked. I would stay at the Nugget again for sure!

The Friday night under the Freemont canopy, I really did not enjoy. They had metal detector search points set up at different points. I was not a fan of that. I don't know if that is a regular thing or what. So Saturday night, we did not even bother going out onto Freemont.

It was not so much the crowd that was the turnoff, it was the metal detector checkpoints. It created bottle necks, and was just a pain in the ass in general. Is that a normal thing?

We've stayed downtown dozens of times over the past ten or so years. Never seen metal detectors anywhere. Even "biker week," but we haven't been there at that time for probably five years.
