Ok, I don't normally open "fussing" threads, but our food threads are usually fun/harmless.

I used to LOVE microwave popcorn....love love love! I've made it stovetop for years now, but after a tiring week, we were about to watch a movie, and it just sounded FUN.

I had a fresh bag of Pop Secret my mom had left at our house ...And I nuked it for the perfect amount of time ..it came out beautifully!

That, was until I popped it in my mouth. It tasted chemically, gross, oily in a synthetic way, and just awful. I just tossed it.

So, either popcorn has gotten way worse, or I've become more spoiled.

What food used to give you joy...but now makes you gag?

I used to love :feedme: ice cream sandwiches.
I had one when I was sick (7th grade) and I haven't been able to stomach the thought of eating one since then!

That's very good list. Potato chips and french onion dip are the worst, but used to enjoy them.

When I was a kid I thought TV dinners were the cat's ass. (Who remembers those Swanson's Salisbury Steak dinners with corn and apple crisp?) These days I would rather just skip dinner than have a microwavable TV dinner. On the positive side when I was young I did not like soup, now I truly enjoy most soups. :feedme::feedme::feedme:

As someone who is (allegedly) even older than the OP, I can’t eat all the garbage I once could. Some of it I miss (Cheetos, Doritos, Oreos, Pop Tarts...:headbang:), some of it I don’t (pretty much all fast food.:vomit:)

    Also fig newtons.

    Kinda like ...

    Salisbury steak, in mushroom gravy
    Mashed potatoes, in mushroom gravy
    Cut corn, in mushroom gravy
Apple crisp, in mushroom gravy and on the salisbury steak.

Seriously, we thought of TV dinners as kind of a treat back then.

Oh yeah, @dmr, we thought they were a big time treat too. Whenever Mom and Dad would go out for the night my Mom would put them in the oven before the babysitter came over. Hog heaven for my brother and me.

One other food I forgot....anything from Mrs. Paul’s. Fish sticks......big time yuck.

I am a picky eater, but not a food snob.
I can't stand plain ordinary white bread. it is gross! and that includes the basic hamburger and hot dog buns as well.
I got to have something a little bit better -- artisan/craft or what have you. but that soft doughy white bread should be banned!

Oh, I'm very sure it's a good example of something most kids love but most adults think of as being totally 144 fer shure. :)

I gave up ketchup years ago. I can eat it if nothing else is available.
one thing is for sure, our tastes sure do change and evolve with age.

and for a bit off topic, here is one (newer) item that I love, I have been hooked on these for about 5 years now:

As a kid, still am one today, I thought fish sticks were just fine. Not so much now! Freshly popped popcorn made in a skillet with lots of melted butter and a few shakes of salt ...yum yum. Beer washes it down. " I like beer"

Same here! Most flavored chips are now very repulsive to me!

IIRC the Doritos we had as kids were very lightly flavored. The ones today are OD'd with artificial flavors.

I still love Cheetos, however, and those generic Cheesy Poofs in the huge jugs. :)
