    My Trip Report

First thing, we don't drink or party. We're at the age where we like everything calm and easy. So my Las Vegas trip report is very boring compared to others I've read. LOL

I don't know if could this is a trip report or a food report. A little of both I guess. LOL

When we got to the airport, we took the shuttle to get our rental car. Of course I turned on my southern charm and ask if they could give me an upgrade. Which they kindly did and gave me an SUV, which is what I'm use to driving, so I loved it.

Went to the parking deck at Excalibur, parked and checked in. If you have the Pearl status and stay at any Mlife property with a car, parking is free. They tell you to take your parking ticket with you, I guess so not one can steal your car from the parking deck. Just don't leave it on the dresser in your room and realize it as you're trying to go out the gate. LOL

First time at Excalibur, our room was on the 12th floor in the Royal Tower facing the airport. The room was awesome, everything I look for in a room. The room was clean, bed comfortable and AC worked perfect. My only complaint with the room is there was no shelf or ledge of any kind in the shower to put soap or bath products on. Was worried about being on the 12th floor about how fast the elevators were, they were fast. Never had to wait more than a few seconds before going up or down. Liked that.

Hubby learned a hard lesson about stepping onto the bath mat getting out of the shower. Mat slipped and he fell in the shower, scared me to death. He wasn't hurt, just a little scratch. I did notify Excalibur in the review request they sent me after we checked out. They asked me to file a report but I didn't see the need in it, just wanted them to be aware of it. They're sending me a package, hope it comes today. LOL

Was disappointed in how many kids were still there with their parents. I would have thought being that late in August, they would be back at school. I was really shocked about how lax security was about kids standing around while parents gambled or families cutting through the casino floor with their kids. Didn't like that. Lesson learned.

First day on Tuesday, did ALOT of walking . Walked all way down to Treasure Island. After we left there and walked over to Mirage, we were so exhausted we took the monorail at Harrah's back to MGM. LONG WALK to and from the monorail at any of the stations, same with tram that goes from Park MGM to Bellagio.

We did the Excalibur dinner buffet on Tuesday night, didn't care for it. I bought a BOGO from MyVegas last minute for the buffet, I wouldn't have paid full price it.

Wednesday, we drove out to Hoover Dam. We did so much walking the first day, we didn't want to take the Dam tour, regretting it now. Left there and drove over to Silverton to try a off strip casino, no luck of any kind on the slots there. Got back to Vegas late afternoon, gambling at Excalibur a little bit before dinner.

We decided to walk to Park MGM and catch the tram that goes to Bellagio. As I said a LONG WALK from the strip to the tram station. I had a BOGO from MyVegas for Bellagio dinner buffet. I had read good reviews and was excited about getting to eat crab legs that I love so much. I have Pearl rewards, so we went to the dedicated line but it wasn't busy.

I hope that the weekend dinner buffet is better than the weekday dinner buffett, because I would be extremely unhappy if I had to pay full price for this buffet. It was the worse, the crab legs were terrrible. I didn't mind them being cold, but I hated how they cut them in half. At first you're thinking that it will make it easier to get to the crab meat, made it worse. When you crack a crab leg, you break it at the joint and pull out the sliver of crab shell. Then the meat comes out normally as a whole piece. With them being cut in half, it makes it extremely hard to do that. My husband had a hard time finding anything he liked, and he's not a picky eater. If you're there during the week, don't go to Bellagio for the dinner buffett.

Got up Thursday and drove out to Red Rock Canyon. It was pretty, what can I say. It's a bunch of rocks, a few red ones. If we were hikers, we would have liked it more, as there was alot of hiking trails that takes you to what I'm sure is some great views that you can't see from the road.

Left from Red Rock Canyon, went to Mt. Charleston. When we left Red Rock with a balmy temperature of 106 degrees and got to Mt. Charleston with a temperature of 75 degress, it was like a different world. We love the mountains and the coolness. This was our kind of thing. As I said before, we're boing people. LOL

I had a BOGO Aria dinner buffett for our last night, but again we just couldn't face the idea of either walking to Aria or taking the tram, so I canceled it and got one for Mandalay Bay. Holy crap, Mandalay Bay is like another world. Hardly seen any children, loved that. And there is a tram from Excalibur that goes to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. It's right out their front doors, unlike the monorail and Bellagio tram that is all the way in the back of the resorts. And it's quick.

I LOVED the buffett at Mandalay Bay. We actually had a waiter who brought us our drinks, unlike Bellagio and Excalibur where you served yourself. My husband loved it as well. Lots of selection, it was fresh and good. The best part for me was the HOT dungeness crab legs. They were awesome. I have been eating crab legs for MANY YEARS, and they do something that I have never seen done before. They actually take each crab leg before they steam it and put a small notch in it. You really don't even need the crab crackers. When you break the joint and pull out the sliver of crab shell in the legs or pull out the crab shell from the claw, you can break it where the notch is. The crab literally comes out as one whole piece. I thought they were going to have to roll me out of there. LOL

When we were done stuffing ourselves, we decided to gamble a little while we were there. I finally got up my nerve to play craps for the FIRST time. I only threw the dice off the table 3 times. LOL Didn't win, but I loved it. Would have been better if the table had some excitement going on. Very dull. But loved the casino as a whole, I guess because there was no children hanging around. Don't get me wrong, I love kids. But let's be real, Las Vegas is not a place for kids.

Sadly, Friday came to soon and there was lots left to see. Didn't get to go downtown, next trip. Had a wonderful time, but next time will stay center strip. Beware of the Monks, they are a different kind of panhandlers. If you stop and acknowledge them, they will put a bracelet on your wrist and give you a little gold card, but when you say Thank you and try to walk away without giving them money, they will literally pull if off of your arm and take the card away from you. You've been warned. LOL

Just FYI, there are a lot of schools in Canada that don’t start until the first or second week of September. Not sure if that’s the same case for some schools in the U.S. So some of those kids you saw might not be missing any school at all.

I believe it. I was just shocked that there was so many parents that brought their kids to Vegas. Of course it's a free country and they can vacation where ever they want. But if I was a kid, I would hate Las Vegas if I wasn't old enough to drink or gamble. But that's just me. LOL

We were at Excalibur last week in August. The only kids that bothered me were the ones across the hall from us. Parents let them play in the hall late at night. When parking you can insert your pearl players card instead of taking a ticket. Insert your card and it will spit it back out and open the gate.

    Great report!
I'm glad to hear your hubby was okay.
Falls are bad anywhere. Really bad in Vegas.

I stayed at excalibur in july and brought 2 -11 year olds and a 1 year old (19 months) . Surprisingly, they loved every minute of it. I used to think it was odd when I'd see kids out there as well, but I've definitely seen another side of things.

Thanks for the report. I see no problems having kids in Vegas. The pools in some of the hotels are awesome for the kids, lots of shows that kids can see, and some very cool hotels to visit. Not everyone who comes to Vegas drinks and gambles all the time. And especially staying at Excalibur, you have to expect lots of kids there.

I know that Excalibur is a family friendly resort, but was hoping that with it being late August that there wouldn't be so many kids. I was just suprised. And I don't drink and but we did do quite a bit of gambling. Will definitely stay next time in a casino that caters to adults.
