Anyone else excited for Wynn Plaza?

25 new stores, 72,851 sq ft total, including dining like Cipriani and Urth Caffé.

I'm exited. Most of the new things coming online in Vegas nowadays are geared toward my age group (millenials). Both those restaurants seem appealing. Especially Urth, as even Wynncore's "casual" offerings leave something more casual (and inexpensive) to be desired.
Apparently the shopping on the ground level will be the usual ultra high end, like the promenades, but the higher levels will be directed toward younger people.
The restaurants claim an October/November opening, so it should be open in time for my Christmas visit!

Totally agree. There is nothing that I can buy in Vegas that I cannot buy at home. I can shop at home. Vegas is NOT for shopping.

Yawn. We’re mildly interested in happenings at Wynn and Encore, because we’re fans, but we don’t think Wynn Plaza will change the quality of our visits either positively or negatively. We are old people with money, and Mrs. Johnny can occasionally hit Louis Vuitton and Hermès up for some serious purchases, but we’re already disinterested in most of the high end stuff at Wynn and more won't change our spending at all. We’re more likely to pick up a forgotten item at CVS than we are to head up through Encore for serious shopping, for sure. We may or not be typical.

I wonder how much traffic the North end of the resort will get and whether the revenue per square foot will justify building the place. Obviously, smarter people than me thought it was a good idea, so we’ll find out next year when some revenue figures are in. At some point the market for so much luxury shopping and dining will be exhausted in Las Vegas, so I always wonder if each new extravaganza will be the tipping point. Wynn Plaza seems nice, but who else thinks it’s a bad location to pile on more expensive stuff?

And, it’s been interesting to me that opening dates have been so vague, and extended, now simply set for “October.” Wynn was usually reliable about setting a definite date and then making it. Is this wandering a sign of trouble?

 

not at all. i detest wynn encore. for several reasons

 

I do think Wynn needs more casual eateries. But I'm more likely to continue to go there solely for Parasol Down and then go next door to V/P for food. I'm that weird advanced Gen-X age where I could go either way on these things.

 

I'm interested to the extent of how good a shortcut to the Peppermill and Tacos el Gordo it might be.

 

Thanks for sharing all this information and pictures! I'm always enthusiastic about new additions and investment into the Las Vegas landscape and how these companies attempt to be forward thinking in their efforts to continue to draw and please multiple customer consumer groups. I also appreciate the jobs these construction projects and resultant businesses provide. It's rare to see much excitement here for anything new unless a new CPAP device comes on the market or Metamucil markets a new flavor.

Since you mentioned it, what's the deal with Tacos el Gordo? We were down that way last week and they had a stupid long line of people waiting outside. Unless they are giving away free tacos I can't see a reason to wait in a line like that for a taco. Don't get me wrong, I LOVES me some tacos! I guess those people don't come from a place where you can't throw a stick without hitting a really good taco place.

 

If the waterfalls were not tampered with, I am pleased. I love Wynn and the addition of more stores to browse on idle breaks from serious gambling pursuits seems very attractive, more so if there are some new restaurants to try. Cool they were inspired on Avenue Martignon in Paris; the windows on the Strip side look pleasant and quite colourful. It makes me want to go back. Now, if they were offering also some 10/6 DDB and some 9/6 JB with a sequential royal big jackpot, I would be not just pleased but excited and checking out flights.

 

Yeah someone I follow on Twitter who lives in Vegas occasionally takes a picture of Wynn Plaza interior (I assume its accessible from the Wynn parking garage) and its been the same picture for over a year......seems like there's no store signage, etc. Tough to get excited with that.

 

Not really. I have a high end mall (International Plaza) 15 minutes from my house that has all the same stuff I can get there, or anywhere else in Las Vegas for that matter.

Versace, Hugo Boss, Armani, Cartier, high end watches, high end sunglasses etc etc..I can go to a different mall (Westshore Plaza) right across the street if I want more normal fare.

I'm not opposed to buying my future Mrs. Ex something nice if I have a good day gambling, but she's on the same page as me, we can get it at home...probably cheaper as well.

The food remains to be seen imo.

We are not flying 11 hours to go shopping which we can do at home or online.

Vegas to us is neon lights, casinos, sightseeing, good food and consuming copious amounts of alcohol. Not looking at marked up watches all afternoon.

 

I can not afford anything currently in the Wynn stores which means adding even more stores thrills me less.

 

I'm always interested in what's happening at Wynn and Encore and appreciate you posting the links. I'm especially interested since Wynn is not running the resort anymore. I only have history to go by and so far any of the spectacular properties that Steve Wynn developed and subsequently fell under management of someone else, went downhill significantly.

More directly related to this thread, I've never really understood high end shopping in Las Vegas in general. The stores no matter which property they're located in always seem empty or at best people just looking on their way to dinner or some other location on property.

 

Unfortunately, the answer is probably yes. This is one time where I think Jim Cramer hit the nail on the head "Wynn w/o Steve Wynn is just another hotel and casino".

The good thing is it will take a while for things to change to the point we notice them so there will still be some good years for the 2 resorts in Las Vegas.
